Hello tpoppa, and welcome to thecarversite.com. We're glad you're hear. There is a lot of information here, much technical know how, and a pretty good bunch of folks that are happy to help. While I've owned Carver gear since the early 80s, I am new to NHT. I've owned a pair of 3.3s for less than a month, and I enjoy them a great deal. I imagine they'll have a long term spot in my home theater. Once you get to Novice status, please consider uploading some pics of your gear in the Members Systems area. We all like pics of all kinds of audio gear. In the meantime, kick your shoes off, turn up the music, and welcome aboard.

I asked a question here a couple of years ago or so that is very similar. Has better gear changed your music tastes? For me, it's a resounding yes, but maybe it wouldn't be if the producers and recording engineers had mastered the originals to a higher standard. Maybe there was too much cocaine and whiskey involved, I dunno. (I'll leave it up to y'all to guess whether I mean them or me ) Fortunately, there are a few well mastered classic rock albums that got the Mobile Fidelity, DCC, Analog Productions, CBS Mastersound, DMP, treatment that I can still enjoy. I don't know that I would call it snobbish, but some of those old recordings, and some new ones too, just give me ear fatigue after a few minutes. Maybe we should all keep an old pair of cheap speakers that conceal and not reveal.

Hello SRGresham, and welcome to thecarversite.com. We're glad you're hear. There is a lot of information here, much technical know how, and a pretty good bunch of folks that are happy to help. I think you'll fit in here quite well. Many of us here are long term Carver owners. I bought my first Carver amp in 1983, an M-400t, and then another a couple of years later. They served me well. You'll also read about the techs here cringing at repair malpractice. Once you get to Novice status, please consider uploading some pics of your gear in the Members Systems area. Jeremiah Johnson, Unemployed Highly Annoyed was released on October 30, 2020. "...Where Heavens to Betsy featured a variety of songwriting styles and even used a horn section, Unemployed is Johnson and his rhythm section, with additional keyboards courtesy of bassist/producer Paul Niehaus IV, tapping into all of the emotions described in the album title. The songs are punk in their visceral bursts of anger, but pure blues rock in Johnson’s vocals and wild guitar work." You can read the rest of the review here...

Reb Beach, A View From The Inside was released on November 6, 2020. "Reb Beach's A View From The Inside is an instrumental shred-fest from the former Winger and latterday Whitesnake guitarist. Here’s one for fans of the kind of solo guitar wizardry that is the stock-in-trade of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai – although Reb Beach would argue that this is a direct descendant of Steve Morse’s work in Dixie Dregs." Peter Bernstein, What Comes Next was released on October 16, 2020. “Without the question mark, What Comes Next implies that you have some idea, some intention,” Bernstein explains. “That seems like such a huge concept now, but it’s inherent to the very idea of playing jazz. It’s the basic question that we deal with all the time when we’re given the freedom to improvise: now what do I play? What note should come next? Where are we in the conversation? With everybody’s lives being put on hold, that idea can be extended beyond the fact of just playing music.” You can read the rest of the review here...

Hello Terry, and welcome to thecarversite.com. We're glad you're hear. There is a lot of information here, much technical know how, and a pretty good bunch of folks that are happy to help. A BillD modded preamp with the M-500t mkII is an outstanding combination, and I'm glad you saved your gear from the flooded basement. Hello tregv10, and welcome to thecarversite.com. We're glad you're hear. There is a lot of information here, much technical know how, and a pretty good bunch of folks that are happy to help. I would tighten the screws until snug, and then leave it there. If that doesn't solve your buzzing, then the ribbons may need to be rebuilt. Like AndrewJohn said, sea is the goto man for ribbon repair. Once you get to Novice status, please consider uploading some pics of your gear in the Members Systems area. Muddy Manninen (formerly of Wishbone Ash), River Flows was released on October 23, 2020. "Muddy Manninen’s ‘River Flows’ is an aptly titled album that has a sense of time, space and just like the name of his label, presence. It’s an album that drips with feel, experience and at times explores a retrospective feel. It’s the work of an independent musical spirit who obviously has much to impart outside of the somewhat more restrictive musical straight jacket of his former band Wishbone Ash." Thom Rotella is certainly not new, but it's new to me, and I am enjoying this album a great deal. Some tracks remind me of The Rippingtons, and some tracks make me think Pink Floyd meets The Rippingtons, and some of it reminds me of Al Di Meola. The Thom Rotella Band, The Thom Rotella Band was released in 1987. This is very good with Sonic Holography engaged on the main 2 channel rig. https://www.discogs.com/artist/752202-Thom-Rotella

Jazz In Pink, Joy! was released on October 30, 2020. " ‘Joy’ is very much the Gail Jhonson show. With ten of her own impeccable compositions this long time Musical Director for Norman Brown produces and plays keyboards throughout. The fact she is joined in her endeavours by label mates Kim Waters. Marion Meadows and Paul Jackson Jr. serves simply as the icing on a particularly tasty cake, a fact that becomes obvious from as early as the opening track, the deliciously smooth ‘Joy Joy’, that incidentally was the first single to be serviced to radio." Imperium, Heaven or Hell was released on October 30, 2020. "Fluent in musical genres from rock to jazz to metal, drummer Mika Brushane also has a successful solo project known as Imperium. Brushane writes all the music and lyrics, then plays drums, bass, keyboards, and adds backing vocals." You can read the rest of the review here... This band reminds me of Survivor. If you like big-hair, melodic rock, and I think you'll enjoy this album. I know I do. This one gets an 8.5 on the Sk1Bum 10 point scale.

Holy Roller Baby, Frenzy was released on October 9, 2020. "Holy Roller Baby is the next emerging rock band we should all be excited about. The band’s new record, Frenzy, drops on October 9th, 2020 and shows them to be a highly-developed outfit, unafraid to mix heavy riff rock and gritty Motown-inspired grooves in the same set." Eagles, Live From The Forum MMXVIII was released on October 16, 2020. "With the passing of Glenn Frey in 2016, some might wonder whether The Eagles may ever fly quite as high as they once did. However, if there is one thing Live From The Forum MMXVIII proves it is that you can’t stop the best, pulling out the best in times of trouble. Recorded live at The Forum in Inglewood, California,Frey’s son Deacon and Pure Prairie League multi-instrumentalist Vince Gill joined Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmitt on what can only be described as an explosion of superbly delivered nostalgia, musicianship and respect." You can read the rest of the review here...

Elvis Costello, Hey Clockface was released on October 30, 2020. "Hey Clockface is a terrific record and a testament to the investigational cleverness of Elvis Costello. After all, how many other artists who’ve been around this long and who’ve toyed with so many different styles can still surprise and satisfy almost as much as they did when they first broke out? From start to finish, the album does a great job of capturing the nostalgia and wisdom of age without losing sight of the youthful tenacity and outspokenness that’s always made him unique. Backed and guided by some other truly talented folks, Costello’s latest is another pleasingly characteristic and weighty addition to his already illustrious legacy." You can read the rest of the review here... Hey Clockface also features contributions from Bill Frisell, Nels Cline, and longtime collaborator Steve Nieve.

Tool - Fear Inoculum (the whole album) on the Home Theater featuring the NHT 3.3s. These speakers do prog rock very well.
