The C1 is a great preamp, and with the BillD upgrade, it's nothing short of phenomenal. I've never owned an M1.5t, but many here speak very highly of them. There are several here who have and still own the MXR-130, the SD/A-360, and the TX-11B. I have that tuner myself, and it's a great tuner. 9. My favorite Christmas movies today:
  10. My Martin Logans are 3' apart, about 20" from the back wall, and about 4' from the side walls.. The back wall has sponge rubber treatments. They also have a Martin Logan 1000w subwoofer. Imaging with them is entirely recording dependent, and the same with Sonic Holography. On well done recordings, the image expands well beyond the side walls. It's not particularly deep though. The NHTs are the front left/right channels in my home theater, and they're about 6' apart. They are less than 3" from the back wall as per the owners manual, and about 3' from the side walls. They image very well, and the image is much more 3 dimensional than the Martin Logans. The Martin Logan image is much wider, especially with Sonic Holography engaged. I don't have SH in the chain on the Home Theater, but when I was auditioning the NHTs at the previous owners, SH expanded the image on them tremendously. If you have a C1, C11, C4000, 4000t, C9, or any Carver pre that is SH capable, there's probably a section in the owners manual regarding SH and the proper speaker placement for it. I hope that helps.

  16. If you can find Van Halen II DCC GZS-1129 for a reasonable price, I think you'll find it a much better version. The problem is finding it at a reasonable price. I've seen this sell for $750 sealed on ebay, but it's usually in the $400 ballpark. I don't recall seeing an open copy for sale. Steve Hoffman always does a great job. https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/van-halen-dcc-gzs-1129-is-pretty-super.22318/
  17. I went and looked at the 3.3s I have on what I read here about the imaging, bass, clarity, and I have to say I am not the least bit disappointed. The 3.3s are a huge improvement over the Infinity RSIIIb's I had as front speakers in my home theater. The more I listen to these, the more I like them. As Mark said, no fatigue, they love the M1.0t mkII opt002 amp, and I plan on testing them with a pair of M500t mkII's biwired. The only drawbacks I've found so far are the shape and the weight. The 3.3s are almost 130 lbs each, so I won't be moving them down a hallway to check them out with my main stereo rig. The weight might no be so bad, but the shape is damn cumbersome, making it all but impossible to move them without help. These 3.3s are 31" deep, 44" tall (with spikes), and about 6" wide. The outriggers are a must for stability. They do sound great though. My first listen to them was in the previous owners garage, with a stock C11, M1.0t mkII opt002, and an oppo 103. It was very impressive. The soundstage is the most impressive attribute to me, because of it's depth. Then when I hit the SH button on the C11, I knew I was taking them home, even if the previous owner wouldn't budge on price. When the previous owner hear it, I was afraid he might change his mind about selling. They don't have the clarity of my Martin Logans, nor do they have the bass impact, but the Martin Logans are helped with a 500 watt (1K watt peak) 12" sub. If you can find a nice pair of 3.3s under $1500, I'd call it a good deal. They don't come up for sale very often, and they're usually in the $1800 range for a nice pair.

  19. Take the scenic route.
  20. Robmuso, there are several topics on site regarding the PM1200/1201 & PM1.5 fan motors. Here's the search link I used: https://thecarversite.com/search/?&q=pm fan motor&page=2&search_and_or=and&sortby=relevancy I hope that helps.
  21. Hello Robmuso, and welcome to thecarversite.com. We're glad you're hear. There is a lot of information here, much technical know how, and a pretty good bunch of folks that are happy to help. I suggest you start a thread in the Pro-amplifier repair section here regarding your PM1201. There are several here who use the pro-amps, and hopefully one of them will chime in. Your issue may have already been solved, and checking out that area of the site may point you in the right direction. 22. I've had 4 M500t's refreshed/upgraded to mkII. I've had 2 M1.0t's upgraded to mkII opt 002. Details on the amp upgrades are available here: carvermk2.com . The C1 got the BillD upgrade along with the Gundry notch, IEC power cord, and remote volume control. The 4000t got the equivalent of the BillD mod, Gundry notch, IEC power cord, Bonzoro's EZ Gain board, and whatever magic Bonzoro does to the power supply. All of the mods have been done by techs here. Daddyjt, Nahash5150, Bonzoro, and dennismiller1955. There is no wrong choice here with choosing a rech to do the work. The BillD mod is well documented on site. Search for "Building a better C1". I hope that helps.
  23. Yup. Rod you time warped right past Christmas.
  24. Amen to what Dadvw said. A refresh will bring your Carver gear back to (at least) new in the box status, and usually to the next level. I don't recall seeing threads about the CT27v, but the C1, C11, C4000 & 4000t can be taken far beyond new in box status. I have an upgraded C1 and an upgraded 4000t. They are both nothing short of phenomenal.
  25. Great idea Kevin. Thank you. I'd like to nominate Curves Ahead by The Rippingtons for "C".
