  1. More like raided Amazon the other day after Steve's post on the reissue of Frank Zappa's records. Over-Nite Sensation, Uncle Meat and Roxy & Elsewhere just showed up. Freak out and a used original pressing of Hot Rats should be here Friday or Saturday.

    Vinyl Facts

Unique or interesting information on the subject of Vinyl you would like to share. Sales of Vinyl records have been on the rise since 1993! But you knew that already. Despite millions of people world wide believing that vinyl records are a dying medium, record sales are actually on the rise according to statistics shared with Digital Music News. As it turns out, more people prefer to own a vinyl record than simply downloading an album online by paying for it, or even pirating it. Most of the albums being purchased can be found at Indie music festivals and retailers, with a heavy focus on people wanting to buy rock music. In fact, in 2012 alone, over 4.6 million vinyl records were purchased and sold in the United States alone. According to the statistics provided, vinyl records have gone up a total of 17.7% since 2011! Record sales were only around 0.3 million in 1993!
  3. Just picked up Freak Out, Over-Nite Sensation, Roxy and Elsewhere and Uncle Meat. Someone was selling Hot Rats for $199.00 can't do it for that one.
  4. That's cool! Imagine how far down the road it will be before we are sending up 3D printers to build rigs and installations on other planets. Probably not in my lifetime.
  5. Make sure to clean them real good when your done with that dano.
  6. LMAO!
  7. So the heat treatment is good for, say, Public Image Ltd then....thanks! LOL! So I take it you wouldn't be disappointed.
  8. LMFAO! How does that sound again Steve?
  9. That was a good read.
  10. Check Discogs.com to make sure its not an unauthorized copy.
  11. If that what it says, which it looks like it does on the sticker. Have you played it yet?
  12. Not all new music/albums are being cut at 45 rpm, just some. The 45's typically only have 2 to 3 songs per side depending on the play time of the song. In most cases a double or a triple album is what they put out due to the track list and artist insisting that all the songs be available on the album just like it is on the CD. Wish they made a full LP on Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here just like they did on the Wish You Were Here Immersion.
  13. Opps, next one down.
  14. This thread will be of benefit for open discussion on the differences in vinyl mastering. Based on chat box conversations in the last week felt it was appropriate to start this here. danowood:Hey Dom when they say they cut a record at half speed what would that be in rpm? I just read that good HI fidelity is recorded at 45 rpm does that sound right? Gene C: IE; If a 33 rpm MOFI record is cut on the lathe @ half speed, that means the master is being played at half speed while the lathe is cutting...That means the lathes cutting speed is @ 16 3/4 RPM. On paper 45 rpm masters are better than 33 rpm masters, but I don't know if anyone can tell if it sounds better. danowood: so what is the playback on one that is cut at 45 rpm? still 33.3? Gene C: @Dano if the master was played at 45rpm while the master was being cut at the same rpm and you decided to play it @ 33rpm? Then it would sound slow. danowood: ahh ok I have never seen a album play at 45 LOL just the single 45's how bout you? ever seen a 45 album? Seems that spins fast for an LP. I have a few brand spanking new 45's that were pressed this year (Foo Fighters & The Clash to name a few) and some new ones from last year but have a shit ton more 33's than 45's.
  15. SCORE! Right on Dan, glad that you guys were able to make a deal.

    Godzilla 2014

OH NO! NOT AGAIN! AHHHHHH! It's one of the Olsen sisters...
  17. That's awesome Dan! I hope they sound great and you get them.
  18. Ah, yes Ikea. That's where I got my CD and LP shelves from. May have to go with the one you have eventually. Running out of room.
  19. Sounds like some channels on XM.
  20. LOL! I used the term "only" loosely. I think Dom has somewhere north of 9000 albums or a combo of Records and CD's. I probably have room for 50 or so more records. Going to seriously look at a different storage solution if I continue to acquire more albums.
  21. Personally using the MOFI sleeves only have about 500 records. 400 of them have the MOFI sleeves.
  22. Wanted to add this to the thread incase I get asked again in the future. Pedestal measurements. Top of pedestal dimensions 8 3/4 x 11 1/4 ..
