  6. Very nice system indeed. I am a Klipsch fan myself, though I only own a full RF7, RC7, RS7(x4) HT setup at present in the Klipsch line. You really owe it to yourself to try an M500t on your Khorns... I have never found a better pairing than the 500t and Klipsch. Although (as you eluded to) maddenly revealing, with clean source material and quality components upstream, the results are pure magic - unlike anything I have ever heard. Welcome to the site!
  7. Other than their search function is a PITA to use, I have no issues with BDent - They have been my source for Sankens for years, and those are frequently counterfeited devices - Never a bad one from BDent though.
  8. Welcome John - glad you found us. We have a strong tradition of keeping the Carver gear going around here, and there is a ton of knowledge that is freely and enthusiastically shared with anyone that asks. There are no "audio snobs" here that look down on someone's system - just a bunch of people that understand that the enjoyment of music and movies is the primary goal. As for the "older than dirt", I'll quote my father-in-law - "getting old is better than the alternative...!"
  9. Not to be contrary, but I've found that if I overpower the chit out of my speakers, I've never had an issue. I ran a Klipsch RF7 pair biamped with two 1.0t mkIIs for years (SERIOUS overkill), then Kappa 9s with the same mkII pair - and I listen LOUD. However, at the merest hint of distortion, I back off (what's the point of listening to distorted music??). I am a firm believer that as long as you don't exceed the mechanical limits of your speakers, you will have an exceedingly difficult time killing them with too much power. On the other hand, too little power - another story all together;-)
  10. Sounds like it may be the female rca jack on the CD player. Check to see that the ground shield (the cylindrical metal the surrounds the outside of the jack) has not pulled out of the jack itself. You may need to replace the jacks at any rate.
  11. I absolutely love these threads...
  12. I use "When You Say Nothing At All", by Allison Kraus. The opening vocals are so detailed it's spooky, and when her voice raises to full volume everything in your system has to be right, or she can sound very shrill. I also use a few tracks off the Fleetwood Mac Rumors DVD Audio. "Never Going Back Again" has outstanding acoustic guitar sounds, and then on "Gold Dust Woman", I listen for the separation between the cymbal and cowbell in the opening - very telling...
  13. I am hopefully going to be dragging everything out soon to produce a few copies for Travis to take to Carver Fest - I would be happy to make you a set at this time, Jim - just pm me your address....
  14. Hey Joey - welcome! Glad you're here. I own a 490t, which is one of Carver's CD players with the tube output stage. I find that it does a very nice job, especially with the older CDs, and CDs that may not have been produced with the highest quality standards. It tends to "smooth things out", and improve the sound, in my opinion. I hope you find it to your liking, and let us know if you have any questions!
  15. I don't want to talk about it....
  16. Seems like we all step away (or get pulled away) at times. The site is always here, and the door is always open...
  17. And on the flip side (and even worse, IMHO) if someone in a "white van" is selling actual high-end speakers cheap, they're probably stolen....
  18. Welcome to the forum! Many here have done their own mkII modifications. It helps if you have some basic electronics experience, as well as soldering experience. Do you have a bench set up with a soldering station, good digital multi meter (DVM), and misc tools?

    VICE NEWS

Was with ya right up until the Bill Mahr part...;-)
  20. Welcome to the forum. Very nice system you have assembled! I too am a carver (obviously) and Polk fan. I won't bore you with my list of Carver gear, but as for Polk, I have an upgraded set of SDA SRS 1.2's, and a full set of LS (LS70, CS350, LS F/X). I have owned Monitor 10's and Monitor 7's as well. Carver and Polk do seem to go well together. Welcom, and glad to have you here.

    RIP Bill Paxton

Not to be contrary, but we never actually see Bill killed by the terminator - but it's probably a safe assumption that he he met his end after surrendering his clothes. As an interesting side note, I can only think of two other actors killed by 2 of the afore mentioned bad guys... any guesses?:-)

    RIP Bill Paxton

Wow. Only 61... So many memorable roles. He will be missed. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2017/02/26/actor-bill-paxton-dead-at-61.html
  24. Ok, In All seriousness - I once heard that the best way to DEEP CLEAN vinyl was to coat the record with wood glue, let it dry, then peal it (and all the gunk) off... http://www.loopinsight.com/2014/07/24/using-wood-glue-to-clean-your-vinyl-records/ Thoughts? Sounds crazy to me....
