  1. Good eye Mike - it is a .257 Weatherby. Incidentally, the .257 was Roy’s favorite of all the cartridges he engineered. Sorry for the thread hijack @Bean fyi @Sk1Bum
  2. When I opened this thread, I was expecting to see something like this: carry on...
  3. I am a big fan of NHT for the purpose you describe. The 2.5 series are floor standers with side-mounted woofers, to allow an aprox 7” wide by 40”(ish) tall frontal profile. They make excellent bookshelf models as well - the 1.5 and the Super Zero are two to look at. Very natural, uncolored sound. A tad bit in-efficient, but that is not a concern for Carver enthusiasts ?
  4. Noted. Thanks for the feedback.
  5. Agreed LT - I love the 105! I will get an audio room eventually. First was the bathroom, now working on a room for my son. Audio room is next after that:-) Amen to that. My Achilles heel is jazz - I have a small collection of some very highly regarded recordings, but I never find myself going to them when I listen. As you said, not my type of music...?
  6. I ordered this album a while back, after it was recommended to me as a great source for test tracks. I had played it a few times, and really enjoyed it in my truck. A few days ago, I threw a small system together (Oppo 105, C1 w/Gundry, McCormack DNA 225, and NHT 2.5i speakers, with a Velodyne DD12) to test a C1 I just finished modding for a member (BillD and Gundry). That is when my jaw hit the floor... The track Draw Your Swords absolutely BLEW ME AWAY. I do not do much listening with SH, but when I do, the Gundry mod is a must - but THIS track was unlike anything I have ever heard - truly unbelievable. Add to this the fact that the listening space I have created is FAR from ideal, makes it all the more impressive. Typing this, I find it just about impossible to put words to what I heard. I cannot recommend this album highly enough - It now owns a place in my top 5, and that is a feat.
  7. Currently binge-watching Two and A Half Men. The first few seasons (with Charlie Sheen) are wildly funny. I think I find it especially humorous because I have little trouble believing that the show loosely mirrored Sheen’s real life exploits...
  8. Support, enable, tomato, tomāto...
  9. Well shit - that explains a lot...
  10. I hear ya brother - you don’t want ME in THAT support group...
  11. Have you considered checking in to a MFSL 12-step program, with requisite support group??
  12. Thanks for the hard work guys?
  13. I think this is a topic we should discuss more often - quality recordings. I am much more flexible on the music Thani am the recording quality. maybe a couple threads - great digital recordings, and great vinyl. Not at all focused on the type of music or performance, but just the actual quality of the recording....?
  14. The CDs were across from the DVDs, on the right (just out of frame). They are all in boxes now, from the move a couple years ago, but all are ripped on a FLAC drive. I had them alphabetized, with a tall shelf on the bottom where all the box sets went. The rack ace I built is very simple. Once I had all the vertical pieces built and drilled, I stacked them and cut a notch at the top and one towards the bottom, the size of a 1x2 (stacked so the notches were all identical and in the same place on each upright). The I assembled each wall section on the floor, running a pair of 1x2 strips through the notches, and screwing it together. Then the whole section went on the wall, and then populated with shelves. 36” is about the longest I went on shelves (1/2” oak plywood with an oak mounding cap on the front edge) to avoid sagging. And yes, I’m 6’4”...:-)
  15. For me, the hierarchy is: DVD Audio, SACD, FLAC, CD, then mp3. (Generally speaking, as there ARE a few CDs of superb quality). I find myself enjoying music outside my normal listening path, IF the recording is of exceptional quality (This is how I became fond of Alison Krause - her stuff is almost always recorded exceedingly well). Conversely, I find myself frustrated when I cannot find music that I am particularly fond of, in a high quality recording (Adele comes to mind).
  16. Are you handy with woodwork? I built the below for my old theater room. The vertical pieces are drilled via a Kreg jig allowing full adjustability of the horizontal shelves. (Set up for DVDs in the photo, but it would be easy to adjust to CD.
  17. I have honestly tried, but vinyl holds nothing for me. I find FLAC, DVDA and SACD superior in quality to my ears, and infinitely more convenient.
  18. Indeed I did forget - good call. The Sum of All Fears is probably my favorite Clancy book, and the movie wasn’t too bad. Ironic that all 5 have names starting with J...!
