  1. Also not to hijack, but what is the easiest way to convert FLAC to mp3? I have dbpoweramp, and it had a converter - but it makes me open each album and convert them one at a time... Maddening!
  2. My true love of SACD lies in the hi-res stereo tracks, 99% of he time. I can count on one hand the number of surround SACDs that I prefer over the 2 channel mix (Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon, Toto IV, The Who Tommy, Steely Dan Gaucho) Most SACDs are "hybrid" - meaning they also contain a normal CD version of the album on the disk, which any cd or DVD player will play. But then you're defeating the purpose of buying the SACD, unless you plan to buy a player in the future. So Kevin is correct - to get either te surround OR hi-resolution stereo mixes, your player needs to say "SACD" and have the 6 or 8 channel analog outs. I understand now thanks, I have also seen the with 5.1 channel is that also acceptable? I think what you are asking, is that if a DVD player has on-board DD & DTS decoding, via a six channel analog output, will it automatically decode SACD (and/or DVD Audio)...? The answer is unfortunately no. Both SACD and DVD Audio require different decoding algorithms within the payer (DSD for SACD, and MLP for DVD Audio) to extract those signals fom the disc. Most mid to high end players from Denon, Marantz, Pioneer, Oppo, and Yamaha offer SACD and DVD Audio compatability. Sony, however, only supports SACD (as they developed SACD, DVD Audio is their competition). Both formats are dying, unfortunately... It is only a matter of time. To make matters worse, the emerging "DD True HD", and "DTS Master Audio" formats on Blu Ray are primarily being used for only live concert videos, and to showcase (mostly awful and overdone) 5.1 channel mixes. This leaves us with no TRUE high resolution (192/24) stereo sources:-( Maybe I will be getting into vinyl...:-)

  4. Kevin, I think a few of my CDs are HDCD - I will go through and send you a few to try out - just pm me your address. Btw, If you're comparing HDCD to SACD, you are in for a disappointment.... HDCD is NOTHING like SACD, IMHO.... Mark
  5. LOL! Have the 9500ix in the Z71 and the 9500ci in the Eldorado. The ci has saved my ass multiple times in the last 3 years. I used to use a Passport, but I pulled it out shortly after moving to Montana. They just don't bother you up here, unless you're going over 90, or driving like a jack-a$$...(BOTH of which I used to do when I was much younger!)
  6. Or you could live by the wise words of NWA -- "F*ck the Police"
  7. How could I forget - The Doobie Brothers, "China Grove"...
  8. Very nice bike - I remember wanting a bullet bike right out of high school. The ad for the Ninja 1000 said "0-60 faster than you can read this." Further proof that teenage boys only think of speed & sex:-)
  9. We all have THAT song or album, that just makes you mash the gas and go fast... What is it? For me, It's gotta be Motley Crue's Kick Stat My Heart... Just makes me want to go FAST:-)
  10. Got my voteWell since it has both his name and the title of the album on the cover coupled with the fact that it is likely the largest selling album ever of any genre most people should be able to sort it out quickly REGARDS SNOW Using that criteria, I would have to consider as well:
  11. What do you think is the most recognizable album cover of all time?
  12. Welcome aboard! You've been paying attention during your lurking - we usually have to ask for pictures, but you nailed it!! Very nice system - I've wanted to hear a set of OBs for some time.
  13. Carver made basically two faceplate sizes: 17" like my older office system (M-200t, TX-2, C-2, DTL-50) and 19" like my son's system (M-1.0t, CT-Seven, DTL-200MKII) They also made 19" adapter plates for the older 17" components and bolt-on rack ears for the 17" M-500(t), TX-11, MXR-series receivers, etc. Gee Dom, it must be nice to have one of everything Carver, just in case you want to produce a made fo tv movie "The many works of Bob Carver - a pictorial journey..." Seriously, - great post. Taught me something I didn't know (Which in retrospect, isn't too difficult...)
  14. Welcome aboard. Your audio system (and quite possibly your wallet) will never be the same:-) Glad to have you -
  15. Welcome Terry! Glad to have you here. You're going to have no shortage of power, when Greg gets done with your amps. Are you having him do the mkII mods? What are you going to be driving with them? As Dom said, we LOVE pictures...:-)
  16. On the subject of Tarantino films...: "Now, if any of you sons of bitc^es got ANYTHING else to say, now's the phucking time!" ~ Lucy Liu in Kill Bill I
  17. Cat's In The Cradle, by Harry Chapin- So eloquint and yet so simple. Really makes me slow down and spend time with my kids. My child arrived just the other day He came to the world in the usual way But there were planes to catch and bills to pay He learned to walk while I was away And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad You know I'm gonna be like you" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home dad? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then My son turned ten just the other day He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok" And he walked away but his smile never dimmed And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah You know I'm gonna be like him" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then Well, he came home from college just the other day So much like a man I just had to say "Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?" He shook his head and said with a smile "What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys See you later, can I have them please?" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then I've long since retired, my son's moved away I called him up just the other day I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind" He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time You see my new job's a hassle and kids have the flu But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad It's been sure nice talking to you" And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me He'd grown up just like me My boy was just like me And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then
