Rush - Distant Early Warning?

I am reminded of an all-time great quote by Dirty Harry - "A man's gotta know his limitations..."

It's Infinity "6" Month, everyone loves good six

Call Michael Marks. He's "Mr Infinity" - if he doesn't have any lying around, or know where to get them, you're probably going to have to just troll ebay for a while. You may consider "donor" speakers too - a set with trashed Polydomes and/or emits, and just harvest the drivers... This is an ad for polydome repair, but it's got Michael's contact info... http://www.ebay.com/itm/INFINITY-Kappa-6-7-8-9-PolyDome-Driver-REPAIR-Service-I-Can-Fix-These-/281343038918?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item41815a15c6 Good luck! -

If they're scarce find em and ship em. Or take a road trip. +1 for ROAD TRIP! 8 hour round trip drive for my first pair of Kappa 9s, and 10 hour round trip for the ALIIIs... WAY cheaper than shipping, and WAY safer:-) -

Yes, sounds silly but I read somewhere that one of these dome mids gets brittle and a warming will make them supple again. ???? Hell I don't know, that's why I asked. Are you a little teste? http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/teste Am I a witness? Yes, witness to a potential catastrophe or train wreck whatever you want to call it. The heat will make the domes age faster, so if they are already brittle...your going to phuk them up even more. Use liquid silicone or vinyl conditioner, even heard of some people using automotive liquid wax. I heated one of mine, but only because it was dented. Gene is right - avoid heating if possible. I used a thin coat of leather conditioner after I heated mine. -
Check this site out to track all of Bond's travels in the films. You can sort by film across the top of the map, or by actor that played Bond across the bottom of the map. http://www.empireonline.com/features/james-bond-film-world-map/30.asp

I'm with Gene on this one. I looked for the 12" drivers for months, and found none listed. Polydomes are get able, but never less that $350 a pair. Polygraphs rarely come up, and the last pair I saw were $400. The EMITs are doable, but as Gene said, you'll need four. I say wait on a nice pair of 9s - they seem to go for $1,000 - $1,500 pretty consistently. You just need to wait for a pair you are willing/able to drive to:-) Good luck!

Very nice - looks like they may have inspired the B&W 801 series...

Welcome aboard, Ben! Sorry to be late to the party, but I just got back from vacation. I am in total agreement with Brian (B-Man) - there are some great techs HERE, but most of us do have "Day jobs", and we do this as a hobby. If you have a little bit of patience, we can really inprove some of your vintage Carver gear. I am a home theater buff myself, and like you, I take pride in the ambiance of my HT, as well as the performance:-) Nicely done!! -

A Kappa 5 pair would be nice in the bedroom.... Or maybe a pair of Definitive bookshelf models. There was a Pioneer (I think) model that was like $100 a pair mentioned in a thread a few months ago, that can be bought at Best Buy - everyone that had heard them RAVED about the sound and value. I'll see if I can find the thread...

Thanks, guys! I wasn't necessarily looking for music BY him, but the overall tone and sound of that particular piece. It travels from peaceful, to upbeat, to solemn -- at least to me. very complex, with great transients and instrument separation... As I said, one of my favorites:-)

This is one of my FAVORITE pieces of music. It's only about two minutes long, and comes from the Soundtrack to Get The Gringo. It's by Antonio Pinto, and I can't locate anything else by him. I'm curious if any of you can recommend similar sounding music...? Thanks for any help! <audio controls Your browser does not support this audio format.

Carver MXR-900 - Are there manuals available
Daddyjt replied to billeng's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Welcome Bill! Glad you found us - congrats on the acquisition. -
Allison Krauss "When You Say Nothing At All". The beginning of this song has so much detail - The guitar just floats, and her voice is so soft. I especially listen for the "k" at the end of the word "dark". Then it gets interesting - When the song kicks up about 30 seconds in, the force and volume increase exponentially. It's at this point that her voice can easily get that "OMG, turn it DOWN" response - IF you don't have the quality speakers and power to keep it listenable. When done right, it's an incredible musical ride - I get chills just thinking about it...

Good mix of old and new today:-)
