  1. Check this site out to track all of Bond's travels in the films. You can sort by film across the top of the map, or by actor that played Bond across the bottom of the map. http://www.empireonline.com/features/james-bond-film-world-map/30.asp
  2. I'm with Gene on this one. I looked for the 12" drivers for months, and found none listed. Polydomes are get able, but never less that $350 a pair. Polygraphs rarely come up, and the last pair I saw were $400. The EMITs are doable, but as Gene said, you'll need four. I say wait on a nice pair of 9s - they seem to go for $1,000 - $1,500 pretty consistently. You just need to wait for a pair you are willing/able to drive to:-) Good luck!
  3. Very nice - looks like they may have inspired the B&W 801 series...
  4. Thanks guys - I cant tell you how much I appreciate all that I have learned here
  5. Tell your wife to start thinking about where the knick-knacks in the right side of the ent center are going to relo to... You're gonna need the room... Soon;-)
  6. Welcome aboard, Ben! Sorry to be late to the party, but I just got back from vacation. I am in total agreement with Brian (B-Man) - there are some great techs HERE, but most of us do have "Day jobs", and we do this as a hobby. If you have a little bit of patience, we can really inprove some of your vintage Carver gear. I am a home theater buff myself, and like you, I take pride in the ambiance of my HT, as well as the performance:-) Nicely done!!
  7. Here's the thread: http://thecarversite.com/yetanotherforum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=8723
  8. A Kappa 5 pair would be nice in the bedroom.... Or maybe a pair of Definitive bookshelf models. There was a Pioneer (I think) model that was like $100 a pair mentioned in a thread a few months ago, that can be bought at Best Buy - everyone that had heard them RAVED about the sound and value. I'll see if I can find the thread...
  9. Rock = Steely Dan - Babylon Sisters Hard rock = AC/DC - Shook Me All Night Long
  10. Got all my CDs, and just ripping them to FLAC files now. Thank you all for your suggestions - truly one of the best uses of the site I've found, and one I plan on using again - you guys are awesome!!
  11. What did you order? Jesse Cook - Frontiers Craig Chaquico - Once in a blue universe Peter White - Perfect moment Preston Reeds - Instrumental landing Adrian Legg - Greatest hits A couple of them I had to order used, as they are out of production. I already own Acoustic Alchemy - Roseland:-) Thanks again for all the suggestions!!
  12. Thanks for all the replies folks - got a 5 album order into Amazon:-)
  13. Thanks, guys! I wasn't necessarily looking for music BY him, but the overall tone and sound of that particular piece. It travels from peaceful, to upbeat, to solemn -- at least to me. very complex, with great transients and instrument separation... As I said, one of my favorites:-)
  14. This is one of my FAVORITE pieces of music. It's only about two minutes long, and comes from the Soundtrack to Get The Gringo. It's by Antonio Pinto, and I can't locate anything else by him. I'm curious if any of you can recommend similar sounding music...? Thanks for any help! <audio controls Your browser does not support this audio format.
  15. Welcome Bill! Glad you found us - congrats on the acquisition.
  16. Allison Krauss "When You Say Nothing At All". The beginning of this song has so much detail - The guitar just floats, and her voice is so soft. I especially listen for the "k" at the end of the word "dark". Then it gets interesting - When the song kicks up about 30 seconds in, the force and volume increase exponentially. It's at this point that her voice can easily get that "OMG, turn it DOWN" response - IF you don't have the quality speakers and power to keep it listenable. When done right, it's an incredible musical ride - I get chills just thinking about it...
  17. That's way cool - a little out of my range, but I'm rooting for her:-)
  18. Good mix of old and new today:-)
  19. Or FLAC files:-)
  20. This is a Carver forum, so how about an M1.0 non-inverting version, with appropriate mods? I'm thinking a TFM 42, TFM 45, or TFM 55 would also work. The M1.0 inverting style, and the M500 invert one channel, so they're not compatible. Any "bridged" or "Balanced" amplifier is also not compatible. I'm using an Aragon 8008BB, but with a 12-guage jumper wire between the negative terminals to provide "true" common-grounding. The 8008 on it's own has 20 ohms of resistance between the negative terminals, and it makes the 1Bs sound TERRIBLE. While I hardly think of it as an "upgrade", I have a freshly recapped 55x that's just collecting dust - if you want to switch it out, I'll trade you straight across for the 500t mkII, Bryan... You decide - no pressure;-)
  21. OR, you can go all the way down the rabbit hole, and mkII your M500 for about $275 in parts...:-)
  22. Welcome Gary! The 500t is a superb amp - great sound, and a dream to work on. There are many here who can help you if you have trouble. What speakers are you going to be driving? Glad you found us:-)
  23. Welcome aboard progets- sorry to be late to the party. That's a mighty nice looking rack you've got;-) One of the cleanest installs I've seen too... Very nice:-)
  24. Best lifting tunes for me used to be Motley Crüe Kickstart My Heart, AC/DC Thunderstruck, Van Halen Panama, and Guns N Roses Paradise City....
