  1. Welcome to The Carver Site, @clstuff, glad you found us. Post some pictures of your gear, here in members systems. We love pictures !! 😉
  2. Welcome to The Carver Site, @mwc951. I wish I lived where you lived, anything Carver that hits FB MktPlc, Craigslist, or eBay here..., locally, gets bid through the roof... Sounds like you have an awesome good deal on a nice setup. You will love it. I'll also second what @Daddyjt, said. I've seen several invoices of other "Carver" techs, some claiming "authorized" status..., and they surprise the heck out of me in terms of unclear work, unclear parts for what purpose, etc. etc. Skip the riff-raff, and go directly to Nelion Audio. Greg's contact info is on the www.NelionAudio.com website. Give him a phone call, he spends the time with you on the phone to ensure you understand what he can do for you, and what you can expect audio-wise out of your gear. Always cool to have a new member..., When you get a chance, please post a picture in the Member's Systems of your gear - before or after you get it back from being serviced! 😉 We love pictures
  3. Welcome @Launch1940, glad you found us. Check out the manuals in our library..., All donated by volunteers, and permission given to the site by Bob Carver himself, to keep as the repository and distribution hub. Again, welcome!
  4. Welcome, @James Buchanan, glad you found us. Can't wait to see pictures of your new gear and set-up. Again, welcome!
  5. Welcome to TCS - Glad you found us. Looking forward to your posts!
  6. Welcome, @Fan of Scotland..., glad you found us. We also LOVE pictures..., that receiver collection of yours would be great to see pictures of 😉 Again, glad you are here and looking forward to your posts.
  7. When I sell remotes, I always take a picture with my smart phone, of the IR signal coming out of the remote. (Smart phone cameras pick up the IR signal flashes as purplish light). I do this is a dark room/closet so it shows up better to give the buyer confidence that the remote is not totally dead. Granted, that is only showing the signal for a few of the buttons pressed - and not confirming that ALL buttons work, and the signal for ALL buttons is correct..., but it is better than nothing. When I buy a remote, I ask the seller to do the same test..., if they are legit, and they want to make the sale, they will take a picture of the IR while pressing a button and with batteries, and post it. ...just a suggestion.
  8. Welcome, @matts2179, glad you found us.
  9. Welcome, @arcsound, glad you found us.
  10. Welcome to TheCarverSite, @tmf, glad you found us. That's a great amp. I don't have one and others have opinions they can share about the fan noise, and abatement options. Again, welcome to TCS! When you get a chance, post a picture or two of your setup..., we love pics.
  11. Welcome, @Chainsaw. ( love that handle ). Glad you found us. This is a great website with great people to begin your journey back..., ask questions about your gear or gear you want..., the knowledge here is extensive, and many members have, or have had, nearly every piece of Carver audio gear..., Again, welcome to the site, and when you can, post some pictures of your gear as it is, and as it evolves.
  12. Welcome, @supercal29, glad you found us. That is a great little setup. I have it (along with a TX-2 tuner and DTL-50 cd player) in my office. post a picture of your rig, when you can! Again, glad you found TCS - put your feet up and stay a while - there's a lot here to have fund reading through.
  13. Welcome to the Carver Site, @Duallyman. Glad you found us! We LOVE pictures ..., when you get a chance cut and paste an image of your gear...., brag a little with a photo. Again, glad you found us.
  14. Welcome @Craigmoates. So glad you found us. There's an entire section in Forums on Car Audio - if you haven't found it, it is here: Carver automotive gear - TheCarversite! There is considerably less there on Carver Mobile - due to the nature of it's half-life..., seems this audio gets installed, then destroyed with the end of life of a vehicle it was installed in. That's compared to the lifecycle of home audio gear, which finds its way onto the resaie market via garage sales, eBay, Craigslist..., etc..., and lives on in strength today. BUT, there are some cool restoration threads in the Mobile section I referenced above. One guy did a build with several m240 amps in a VW..., (I asked him once more recently..., he sold the car, and pulled and sold all the amps... - but the build he did was pretty cool! I'm looking forward to your posts on your project! Post lots of pictures!
  15. Welcome @dadi4168, So Glad you found us. We love pictures - share a pic of your gear, when you think of it. 😉
  16. Welcome Darrell, @Carver PM-1.5. Glad you found us. Los of guys here also have Jalopnik (car) hobbies, too. You'll fit right in. Looking forward to your posts - and, of course, we LOVE pictures..., of audio gear - post a picture of your rig when you can. Again, welcome to TCS!
  17. Nice work, Greg. Can you share what you do to "de-rust"..., do you use mechanical or chemical derust techniques? My mother just gave me the old Fisher amp that I grew up with..., and she had it in her basement. My first look at it, and I realized the basement humidity had done a similar light rusting to your hafler...
  18. Welcome! Don’t forget to use the SEARCH feature on this TCS forum here. There are a good number of threads on these speakers, here on TCS from members that restored and/or upgraded their AL-III’s. There are threads on crossovers. There are threads on woofer refoams, and also woofer replacement parts potions from Infinity and other makers…, You asked where to start…, I’d start by reviewing others’ archived projects here on TCS. The manuals library has the original docs, of course…, lots more wisdom and learning in the historical/archive threads! You’ll likely find upgrade arts and source references in the archives, too. This site was s a gold mine.
  19. Super nice, Mark. I'm a big proponent of hanging shelves on the wall - and not on the floor. I hate the damage to the carpet, floor standing furniture always does..., and call me crazy, but being able to vacuum the floor under the shelves just makes me happy!
  20. OK, this is indisputable talent. Damn, they are just SIXTH GRADERS !!! Many good covers on their channel. They just released this recording today.
  21. Welcome @malacesteve, glad to have you as a member of TCS. That TFM-42 is highly coveted, as are the TFM-45, and m4.0t (nearly identical amp inside)... Remember OCCD is a "journey"..., not a destination. Now we know where you have been, you have a lot to look forward to as you rebuild your dream Carver system 😉 Oh, yes, OCCD - Obsessive Carver Collecting Disorder ... LoL Again, welcome aboard!
  22. Welcome @gallagher1, glad you found us. That relay, if it's the root problem, is replaceable. You'll get that unit back in service - 😉 again, welcome to TheCarverSite.
  23. Welcome, Yves, glad you found us. That is a fine Carver amp - and well worth servicing and repairing. Unfortunately complete component boards (like the power supply board) are going to be "unobtainium" and impossible to find for this amp in the 30+ year old vintage age. Based solely on your post..., (hard to be sure without pictures or hands-on diagnosis..., and, to be sure, I am not a tech, but have a general idea of things... ...The only place to find a power supply board to replace yours would be to find another donor parts unit, and harvest the power supply board from it to replace yours. However, to be sure, it's more likely that you should, or could, repair that power supply board. Yes, it could be damaged badly, but a really good tech can rebuild traces, and rebuild the function based on the schematic and parts in the BOM - likely available in the Manuals Library here on the site in the Service Manual. A VERY GOOD tech could probably rebuild it for you if they are familiar with Carver designs. Now, another issue that it might be is just the power switch..., that is a much easier fix (it it is the problem). Since the amp is working, and you just can't turn it off, I would take that to mean that the power supply board is actually working properly. This is the best guidance we can give based on your post. Have you taken the cover off the amp? Do you see any signs of damage? If you have time, take some pictures with the cover off, and post here in your thread. I would look much more closely at the power switch itself, I think it's a simple toggle, that has many new substitutes available. Again, welcome to TheCarverSite.
  24. Welcome to TheCarverSite! Glad you found us. We LOVE pictures - do share one of your TFM-45 and your ALII's. 😉 Looking forward to your participation. Again, welcome!
