It sounds like a great time was had by all. You have to love stories like this and the friendships that are cultivated. I'd have a tough time running with a pack like this because there are too many speakers and listening options for these ears to do them justice in a single afternoon. Really nice setup - I'll bet you guys had a blast.

Thanks Greg Garska. Nahash5150

Very well put Jim. Thank you Greg. -
Welcome Morgan. I think you'll enjoy the Carversite and find it to be a valuable resource - just a bunch of good people with a common interest and a passion for perfection.

Tough call - quite similar but I'll leave it for the lawyers to figure it out while withholding my own opinion. Either way, this will remain among my all time favorites and one of the best renditions I've ever heard has to be Heart's performance of this song at the Kennedy Center. It gave me a whole new impression of Heart's talent.

I would strongly recommend buying new replacements from Dynavox vs trying to refoam your existing woofers. They are reasonably priced and are quite easy to install. My Silvers had shredded surrounds on all six woofers and I blew a voice coil on one of the replacements so I bought six more not knowing how long they might last (Dynavox does not always have these in inventory). In any event, I now have five spares and have not blown any of the other original replacements. I also bought two replacement ribbons a couple of years ago which I'm sitting on because I don't ever want to be without my Silvers. You'll find these woofers sound better and better the more you play them - the bass response will improve dramatically.

I'm not trying to steer this thread off course but thought this might be an interesting clip for those who were reading the thread. Wasn't sure where it might fit in, but ........... http://www.msn.com/en-us/music/news/ac-dc-postpones-tour-due-to-singers-possible-hearing-loss/ar-AAgvjpr?li=BBnb7Kz

Sad news to hear about Kantner's passing. Jefferson Airplane was one of my early favorites having first caught them in Denver and then, a couple years later at the Filmore East. I think I wore a couple of their LP's out during my College days. RIP Paul.

Bill, I checked your brother out on You tube - he's got some pretty good chops and I can understand why you had a blast. Your post brings back a lot of old memories as I romped around New England managing a pretty damn good Rock Band in my earlier years. I spent quite a few nights in bars like this as well as many High Schools and Colleges along with larger venues like the New Haven Colliseum and Boston Garden. As the saying goes, the pay might not be great but you can't beat the fringes. Thanks for posting this and getting those pictures up.

Probably no debt collectors but you might get a visit from the health department.

The real trick back in the day was to join, making sure you also got your two bonus albums (14 total on their best promotional offer), buy a few monthly offerings and then quit. Take a break for a couple of months and join all over again - sleezy? - yes, but it worked. I guess the only way to rationalize this was that they didn't pay any royalties on Record Club sales but admittedly, it was still a pretty sleezy trick.

I certainly want to echo the sentiment of all the favorable comments that have already been voiced re: the tech team. We are all very fortunate beneficiaries of their expertise and generosity but it goes much further than this. Thanks to these guys, our Carver Gear is retaining its value and marketability. It's kind of like what chiroacademy referenced about his equipment probably being in the dump if it weren't for the CS techs. Knowing the resources that are available here in terms of tech support and guidance makes it quite understandable why so many of us have been afflicted by OCCD - just about any component wearing a Carver Badge is repairable or can be modified and upgraded. That takes most of the risk out of any purchasing decision and we need to thank the tech team for that. I'm a rookie and am relatively new at this but I've already amassed 8 Carver amps, 4 preamps, 3 CD players, 2 cassette decks, 3 tuners, a pair of speakers and a couple of other Carver goodies. Yes, the tech guys and the selfless spirit of countless others here deserve our thanks in a very big way.

Awesome, just plain awesome.

Yeah, note the shape of the hole too. Most likely a little Columbian Red Bud. -
Nice looking rig - you are going to fit in real nice around here. There are a lot of great people and they are always willing to help. Buckle your seat belt and get ready to enjoy the ride. WELCOME to the Carver Site.

Jim, Welcome back - I trust you had a good trip and that the wife loves you more than ever. Personally, I wasn't sure if we were going to be hearing from you again anytime soon and am delighted with your return. I never jumped on the initial box thread but if additional quantities may help you leverage an order, I'll be glad to commit to a few M1.0's and a couple of C-1's. Regardless, it's good to see you back on the board.

I'd have to put Ricky Lee Jones on your must buy list. Do not pass go, do not collect $200 - just buy this. If you are disappointed in any way, I'll reimburse you. The album you want is simply titled Ricky Lee Jones, her other releases are good but this one will definitely blow your skirt up. The only thing I ask for is your comments after you've added this to your collection.

When I saw this thread title, my first thought was oh - oh, are venturing into the female anatomy on the Carver Site? Clever title indeed. And, what's a guy to do when he favors both flavors? Like PDR, I'll take both thank you. It's tough to beat vinyl and personally, I enjoy the ritual of spinning records but there's a lot to be said for the convenience of loading up a few CD's and sitting down with the remote. That said, I'm in full agreement with PDR re: the quality of production with either format. "When it's good, it's great. When it's bad .... it sucks".

I believe the manufacturer recently instituted a new diversity program.

Paul, You've probably already given this some thought but if I were in your shoes, I'd give serious consideration to not only having the damaged diaphragm repaired, but also pulling the good one from the other speaker cabinet and replacing the diaphragm on it at the same time. Then, when you have grandkids, you'll be all set for another graduation party.
-
I feel your pain. It sounds like someone or something gave you a much unwanted graduation present but "stuff happens". About all you can do is reach into your pocket and proceed with repairs and/or replacement. If the one grill was ajar, my guess is that Curious George had a touchy-feely experience but that matters little at this point in time. I guess I'm lucky in that no one touches any of my equipment not even my wife. That means I am the culprit when and if anything goes wrong (an honor I share with Father Time). I sincerely hope you are able to repair this to your satisfaction. In the meantime, look on the bright side - your son graduated.

mas52indy, I've got a pair of 901s that I use with my garage/outdoor mobile system which is simply some Carver gear in a cabinet on wheels. They sound good but my Amazing Silvers on my main system are much preferred for serious listening and they are complimented with a pair of Infinity 7 Kappas and a pair of Conrad Johnsons. I'm a very happy camper but a few months ago my mind was blown when I saw what Jazzman was building or should I now say, has built. I'd send you a link but I'm on my I Pad right now so I'm going to ask you to search for Jazzman's thread on his electrostatic speaker build. You won't regret it. I think they may truly define "Great Speakers".
-
I think that's like "more weaker".

Don't let anybody tell you anything different - you deserve this Mark. After all that you did re: that reference CD set and all the manuals to mention just a couple of things, enjoy the fruits of your labors - yes sir, in my book, you deserve it.
