Sk1Bum 10,915 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 While not a movie, this Netflix series had me laughing all the way through. Being an Arnold fan helps... It's theme is similar to True Lies, but with an (admittedly) predictable twist. 1

Season two is in production and expected 2nd or 3rd quarter this year..., should be fun!
Community Admin AndrewJohn 10,010 Posted January 22 Community Admin Posted January 22 Saw this Netflix "Limited" series..., and have to say, it had me on the edge..., lots of twists, and if you like conspiracy-stuff and deep state stuff (and for your sanity can separate that fiction from reality and fact...) you will like this series.
Community Admin AndrewJohn 10,010 Posted January 22 Community Admin Posted January 22 Another Netflix Limited Series I caught that is worth a watch..., is Fool Me Once. I like the "Limited Series" format, as it's not too long, one doesn't have to wait for a new season, in anticipation, or in hope, that it actually happens..., it has a beginning, middle and an end. It involves PTSD, the main character, she is a combat helicopter pilot, and the abusive and capitalistic drug industry fraud. Hard to tie all that together, but this limited series does it. Fool Me Once is one of those limited series that will keep you on edge, throughout, and as hard as you try to figure out what's going on, you won't know until the end..., with a surprise/twist ending.
Daddyjt 9,337 Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 If we are going to chat about “limited series” shows, I’d be remiss if I did not mention HBO’s spectacular series Chernobyl. It’s only five (5) episodes, which is a shame, as I could have watched 10 or more. I remember when the Chernobyl disaster happened - I was in high school. I also remember joking about it with my friends at the time. After watching this impeccably created documentary-drama, I have to admit that I feel like an ass for joking about this horrific event. the entire series is a master class - from the depiction of the initial explosion, to the political ramifications, to the depiction of death by radiation sickness (that will haunt me for the rest of my days), to the second-by-second breakdown in the final episode of what happened that night to lead to the explosion… All of the performances are fantastic, but Stellan Skarsgard flat-out steals the show. He portrays Boris Shcherbina, and his character arc is off the charts - from the ignorant party line bureaucrat to the most touching end scene - he’s excellent. I can’t recommend this series highly enough… 6

PhilDent 1,899 Posted February 6 Posted February 6 I started watching Chernobyl on a long flight and I have to admit that it was the first time that I was disappointed when we landed. I wanted to keep watching. I need to watch it again. 1
Daddyjt 9,337 Posted February 24 Author Posted February 24 I just started watching “Landman” on Paramount+ while traveling last week. All I can say is WOW. I’m only a couple episodes in, and I am HOOKED. Billy Bob Thorton plays an “actuator” of sorts for one of the many big oil companies in Midland Texas. The show is a fabulous mix of drama, comedy, tragedy and downright touching moments. Throw in a virtual buffet of beautiful vistas and shots, and it’s easily the best thing I’ve seen on TV in the past couple years. Tyler Sheridan seems to somehow be improving his craft with every project he is a part of. Top tier stuff here folks… 2

Rob 5,291 Posted March 29 Posted March 29 It’s been out for awhile but just started watching it here. Pretty good movies. 1

Community Admin AndrewJohn 10,010 Posted April 5 Community Admin Posted April 5 Saw the WWII Movie from 2014, "Fury", with Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Micheal Pena, Logan Lerman and John Bernthal. All gritty characters performed well. As I watched, and realized the story is about these five men, specifically. While fiction, it's based on the horrors of the last and final days pushing the Nazi's back at the end of WWII. I couldn't help thinking my Dad, a WWII veteran, went through much of the same that a combination of naivete and faith, respectively portrayed in the characters Norman (Nicknamed "Machine", Logan Lerman), and Boyd (nicknamed "Bible", Shia LeBoef). It's gritty, ugly, and doesn't end well, but makes a clear point of the horrors and cost of war led by the rise of fascism. I recommend. US Trailer The international trailer: 1

Sk1Bum 10,915 Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I watched Exterritorial tonight because of an online review that called it a combination of a female lead of John Wick and Taken. I have to say that I wish I had that two hours back. It was very predictable, and I identified the way of the denouement immediately as the piece was introduced. The fight scenes are pretty good, the acting is fair, but the plot is entirely predictable. Dougray Scott is the only actor that i recognized in the movie. Streaming now on Netflix 3
Sk1Bum 10,915 Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I also watched Black Bag, and I enjoyed it a great deal. Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, and Pierce Brosnan give this film some weight. It was described online as a British take on Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Fassbender and Blanchett are a married couple working for British intelligence. There was little of the action of the Pitt/Jolie film, but the intrigue, and the constant "where the heck is this going" made this film very entertaining. It's certainly a whodunit, and while I did figure it out, I didn't do it right away, and I missed some details. It's also sprinkled with some British humor. Fassbender and Blanchett gave outstanding performances. Streaming now on Peacock. 3

Recently, watching White Lotus and The Bear, I've predicted most pivotal plot shift or cause/outcome in each season. I'm around 40-50% for predictions. I'm really not that good - I think it's more likely that either: Writers have to produce so much more content now, with so many more media platforms, it begins to follow a pattern..., and audiences recognize it OR, is it that A.I., is following the plot data of everything digital, and it too is falling into the trap of repeated (or boiled down to bland) storylines and plots? I wonder what others think? And if others are able to similarly predict endings?
