  1. Hello folks, I'm chiming in here to say hello. Had an M240 back in the 80s, purchased new. Pushed a few CVs with it, namely a single 18. Ran passive xovers, always wanted to afford biamp/second unit. This amp had brilliant range, very dynamic. Right when portable CDs were becoming a thing. Being a teenager, we burned it up (rectifier/diodes, fets). Bought the service manual and learned a thing or two, repaired and back to goodness for years more. Eventually stolen. Poking at that old amp inspired me in several ways. From hands-on learning about switching supplies and general electronics design/repair to appreciating what it means to put your name behind a product you create, it was a pivotal experience. Now, 40 years later, picked up a pretty much NOS M240 (Ser#2600, early unit, pulled from a Model-T from what I was told!). Then a truly NOS PMA2150 and PMA2022 (from the factory shutdown in the 90s). The back story is half the fun with these. On the hunt for an M4120. Coming through here to learn and share, yall seem like a good crew! Thanks for the welcoming vibe, Craig Moates

  2. Hey All, New member, but I've been a Carver fan for years. I currently have an M500, a C-4000, and the TX-11a Tuner. I just added the SD/A 350. Thanks for having me.

  5. How's it going, I'm Darrell and I'm a new Carver amp owner. I own 2 amps, the PM-1.5 which is hooked up to my Kenwood KT-5020 receiver and my Kenwood GE-7030 equalizer. My Kenwood amp bit the dust, my fault, to many ohms. I had my other Carver, a PM-2.0t hooked up first but it quit on me, now it just has a real low beep. I have to use the fuse cap for my pm-1.5, I only have the one. The thing is, I'm not sure if I should continue using it, as the fan hasn't came on, I don't blast it at all, for that reason. I heard that the pm-1.5 is a lot better than the pm-2.0t. I did kick the 2.0t up a couple of times but only to 3½ which was pretty load, I don't think the 1.5 is as loud at 3½, but I keep it at 1-1½ because of the fan. Well anyhow that's what I'm doing now, music 🎶 not tv. Got to get back to working on my moms Nitro, new brakes pads and rotors plus other repairs, just purchased when her car got to hot and blew the head gasket and possibly cracked the head. She had that auto crap which they ripped her off. Until whenever, later

  6. I had a wonderful experience this week I'd like to share. The story starts out badly...... earlier this week, as I was moving gear around (which I do way more frequently than I should, probably) I accidentally knocked my turntable off a table sending it crashing to the floor. The dust cover smashed into several pieces, the counterweight on the tone arm was broken off as was the cuing arm and several other bits. I was as heartbroken as I was angry at my clumsiness. I loved this turntable. It was a '80's Technics SL-D2, completely refurbished. It looked like the day it came out of the factory. I bought it from a guy, Carl, who refurbishes Technics turntables. He does terrific work. I didn't know if the turntable could be fixed. So, I contacted Carl. After I quickly described the tragedy, Carl told me that, even if it could be fixed, I'd be better off buying a replacement turntable because it would cost less. So, I I found another Technics in a local shop and bought it. Got it home, added my cartridge, and it played just fine. But, I wasn't happy. I realized what was missing was the refurbishment... the comfort of knowing that the gear was working 100% to spec. So, I contacted Carl again and asked if he would refurbish this replacement turntable, and he gave me a very fair price to do so. I drove it down to SC yesterday and got a glimpse of Carl's workshop. It reminded me of @Nahash5150's Nelion workshop....racks of turntables, and turntable parts, 90% Technics brand, test equipment, etc. Carl told me about how he can't find some replacement parts but has a guy who 3D prints pieces for him. He quickly showed me all the tests he runs. I spent an hour just shooting the breeze with him.... he was great. I asked him a lot of questions and he dispelled a lot of "myths" about turntables... a real down to earth guy. The whole experience made me very appreciative of all the experts I know for my gear... like the folks here on the CS for Carver gear. If you're ever in the need of Technics Turntable work, here's the place I recommend: https://turntablesbycth.com/

  7. Nice work, Greg. Can you share what you do to "de-rust"..., do you use mechanical or chemical derust techniques? My mother just gave me the old Fisher amp that I grew up with..., and she had it in her basement. My first look at it, and I realized the basement humidity had done a similar light rusting to your hafler...
