  1. You know, for an extra few bucks, maybe they can electroplate on a one molecule thick layer of gold.
  2. https://www.perfectvinylforever.com Oh sure, Let's up the anty a bit as it were. PVF >>> Perfect Vinyl Forever <<< offers to clean your records using ultra sound cleaning. One frequency for cleaning, and a higher frequency for rinsing. Then a triple filtered drying follows. I will try to insert their web address here, but of course you can Google it. At $5 each for cleaning, I am sending in 16 of my best albums to give it a shot. Read all of what is involved before you wince like I did. They send you a special mailer with their record sleeves, and special spacers to put between each album. You pack and send it to them and wait. Might be a week before they are returned. TOTAL cost for 16 albums cleaned and shipped = $110.

    One Man's Dream

I am betting that the journey was as good as the destination.

    Quadraphonic?

Holy Crap Batman! 35-50K? That is starting to sound like a digital thang. Um, why isn't there a batman emoji?

    Quadraphonic?

One of my favorites. JBL was at the right place at the right time.

    Quadraphonic?

Dennis, I remember when Quad equipment was really cheap. To me, it was an obvious choice to buy one for my son when he was in high school. I think that I used it to bi-amp some speakers. It was a Marantz unit, but I forget the model. I can't wrap my head around the grooves of a 4 channel record, let alone the cartridge needed to read all that. Didn't get to own any quad equipment myself. What are you using for speakers in this system?

    SPEAKER DILEMMA

Good! One other aspect that I like a lot is the ability to adjust the sub, not only in volume but phase, freq, and in my case, I have used a Velodyne SMS-1 unit that measures the room and sub response and adjusts as much as possible for the best performance. That is a deciding factor for me since this is one of less desirable listening room environments that I have lived in.

    SPEAKER DILEMMA

I get the idea to get ALL the bass you want from speakers, as you mentioned in a previous post, and Not needing a sub for the challenge. BUT a sub does offer some advantages for placement. Even better, I have found less distortion on loud passages even if the sub is set at a low freq. In my case, I wish that I had done it years ago.
  9. Just couldn't resist
  10. Now days guys, they just go for the guns.
  11. Sorry to hear that. It would have scarred me, truthfully. I am betting that these days we are relatively safe from thieves even knowing what the hell they are even looking at.
  12. You know, that comment started off as a sort of joke, but now, remembering the ability of better cassette recorders, I was often surprised at the results. That really did prompt me to look at the cassette deck thread just now and make me wonder,,,, hmmm, where could I put a deck? The shop is the likely answer.
  13. Sk1bum, When you get the album, can you make a cassette tape for me?
  14. Spinning Wheel was playing in my head as I stood outside the dime store downtown. Was I 10? Man, that was too long ago, yet the music remains. God bless the child.
  15. Thanks. I did check the site, and no surprise, it is sold out. For me, $125 is too much anyway, BUT this is one of my all time favorites, only because of the music on the second side, i.e. the variations.
  16. I love that album, BUT what is the price?
  17. Bro, in fairness, I should mention that there is a sharp turn at the bottom of the stairs. In fact, if I ever sell this house, the washing machine goes with it. I have never in all my years, known of any appliance that so heavy as this machine. In the case of subs though, it's worth the back pain. Not mine... yours
  18. Dude, If I get one, would you help me get it down the stairs? Of course, you would be on the bottom end.
  19. Can't say that I knew for sure, but in a theater, I watched a movie called Roller Coaster. Crappy movie, but the subs were giant bass horns of some type. Impressive. Each horn looked to be 10' W X 3' H X by unknown Depth.
  20. Sounds like your headed in the direction of taking the driver back out to investigate. With a problem like this, the good news is that it is a constant and won't go away until it is discovered. The worst for me are the intermittent type.
  21. In many cases, I disconnect anything feeding the device to hear if it is the actual culprit. That is a starting point.
  22. Ok, hard to beat SADE. I just listened to side 4 of my new Dire Straits Bro in Arms. God, music is deep. These performers can really smooth it all out, beautifully.
  23. Dude, I am joking with you, I am in a crazy mood today. But seriously, I apologize for any offense. I will hold my humor closer to my chest in the future. Sorry.
  24. Hold on, stop the bus, wait a tick,,, um no, sorry, I can't get away with this twice in a row. SOrry.
  25. For the memory of my old friend Jack Cozzens, and all that he did for me when I was very young. This is the 50th ann. repressing of the first album that I ever owned. Jack gave it to me, but it got lost in the shuffle somewhere in time. I am not big into this kind of stuff, but then it is a tribute to someone who led me well. It will not be played until I feel that it can be properly treated/cleaned early next week.
