  1. well, I can't say since this was about 6 years ago, and my son bought the tickets. I remember thinking, "Crap, a tribute band? I'll just try and act appreciative." The ONLY drawback were the few that were still dressed as though they were going to a live concert, but just 40 years later. Ouch.
  2. It is close, that is true. I wonder that when playing if I wouldn't be a little stiff subconsciously when performing. Trying at all times to keep it right. I did hear a cover band for Led Zep that astounded me. Maybe better than the original? Ok, wow I didn't say that.
  3. I wouldn't have guessed it. So, how do you move such a thing w/o cracking tile? And, you better know the sweet spot for placement, right?
  4. Thanks Rod. Was there any indication of the weight? The heaviest speakers that I ever built were corner Khorns in high school. They weighed in at 193 lbs. each
  5. I don't have a mind that can fully appreciate the hundreds of hours required for any project like this. It is beyond my grasp. I have some patience, but not enough for any such thing. The speakers,,, I want to know more about drivers used, crossovers, and much more. Associated equipment too. I wish that there was a room better made to accept these speakers. brick walls, tile floors, sliding glass doors all make for a bright environment. Having said all of this, I don't want to come off so negative. These are observations that I had about the project. I also wish that I had the talent to photograph anything nearly as well.
  6. Good lord, another speaker builder! I have to straighten up my according to the photos you've shown. Spectacular looking results must be followed by great sound, no? Got any photos of the builds? Ever built folded horn designs?
  7. Mine will be finished soon as the weather allows, but it is cool make something and then not be disappointed.
  8. I have to admit that I also get a kick out of various speaker designs, whether successful or not. I use Pinterest these days to shake my head or admire DIY speakers and such. Some are more about art than sound I suspect..... Then there are those so proud of their cobbled together outdoor plywood attempt who take a selfie while leaning against it. Yikes.

    Short Horns

If the target is determined by the bullseye, then the direction of our aim is easy. It can be easily measured by most anyone who sees the target after the shot has been fired. I have come to realize that this not my choosing when it concerns taste in audio. There, I've said it. There is no accounting for taste. No doubt we account for the audio bullseye when starting the journey, but soon enough for me it becomes something else that I am searching for. ..........Quite a preamble, I realize. Just enough for me to say that whether it is logical to physics, or opinion in general, I like what I am hearing with these short horns, and really wasn't expecting this outcome. It was just another experiment, after all. Thing is, if the volume is set right (lower than usual), then I am hearing an ornamental presentation of most music. So what, it isn't natural, and probably not right for many listeners, yet the novelty hasn't yet wore off, and I smile a big smile and accept it at that. I hear right above my head, behind me, and far left and right. I will listen more, and then compare without these attachments after awhile.

    Short Horns

Horns or not cattle outweigh us enough to have their way. Only this morning, I met with a young lady that didn't fare too well with a calf and it's mother. Broke her shoulder blade as she was being pushed and tossed.

    Short Horns

In my corner of the world, experimenting is a must. The latest what if came to me when I listening to my room (not my speakers) and wondered if a short horn would have a beneficial effect on the presentation. Unfortunately, the short answer seems to be yes, and so after the experiment, I must find a way to attach the short horns more permanently to the driver front. Still will have the option to take them off in the future.
  12. I used last treatment on a number of albums back in the day. They swore there was no residue, but I would be in Barrys camp and do the least needed. Good record sleeves at least as important to me. Don't forget stylus care,,, and yes, so much more. Bad cartridge alignment would a big killer as opposed to a film on the album. Ok, I shut up now.
  13. Thank you everyone---as Stevie Nicks would say. I am overwhelmed even by listening to just a clip of every song posted. Yup, took me right back to where I began listening to music.
  14. Good idea to protect against the symptom of the problem. Also a good idea to rid yourself of the problem. They will not quit until you stop them.
  15. AJ, Finally, someone out there gets it. Yes, a second Spin Clean does make good sense, just for the reasons that you mentioned. Think microscopically when cleaning the grooves of a record.... I thought that I was the only guy who used a soap bucket, and a separate rinse bucket for general household cleaning. No, it's not an exact analogy, but the principal still applies.
  16. I watched a woman 'clean' 45's taken from a jukebox that was left in a barn. Yes, beyond dirty. She used soap and water while wiping across the grooves (just like dishes, right?) It was just too late by the time that I saw her. The rag wasn't even that wet, so there you have it, muddy, scratchy, even more ruined, records.
  17. It is important to use the right method correctly. Being a bit of a fanatic about cleaning in general, I see everything from mopping floors with a dirty mop and water, to cleaning lenses of your glasses with a dirty shirt. Today, I sat at a freshly cleaned table in a sandwich shop that had a thick film of soap in the place of dirt....... So, in cleaning an album one concern that I would have with a brush type method, is not to push the debris along as you clean. Unfortunately, the list gets longer. I too, owned a VPI machine, and for more than one reason was not impressed. The machine had suction all right, enough to pull the brush tightly to the vinyl! Not that the old Discwasher brush is the best method either, but you can 'roll' the brush as it sweeps the dirt out of the grooves. Spin clean sounds like a viable method. I would have to try it first.
  18. I would buy a 'Tin Cat' mouse trap., and use an attractant that is put inside the trap. works every friggin time. You only think that you have one mouse. I'm betting 6 or more.
  19. I would be interested in knowing what is involved in a rebuild.
  20. No really, it should be from ST. The visual is much better. "Act natural, say nothing". Igor in Young Frankenstein.
  21. Um, is that from Star Trek?
  22. Well, it sounds you have all the symptoms of a Carver guy. We share our sorrows here. And um, yah our pleasure of this sport too. Either way, you came to a great place to learn about your equipment, and lots more. Welcome.
  23. Why does that cart make me remember the movie, 'Silence of the lambs'? I have been bitten (sorry for the pun) by wanting more than one set of speakers to listen to. Rarely works out well, but it benefits me when I use banana plugs at both ends, making that impractical body position less long. Back in the day, I had a full sized military rack with my equipment in it, and it was on metal casters. Even had a special light in the back, making new connections easier. Then I got married...
  24. Bobby1970, When you get enough posts, send a message to me, and I will see what I can help you with. Also, you will find lots of help from many here.
  25. It's a toss up between O' Brother where art thou, and Last of the Mohicans.
