Sometimes it sucked, too..., w/o trailers and previews..., the medium (newspaper) had limited ability to convey what was in the movie. Really crappy movies duped moviegoers...., I recall a movie my friends chose back in High School to go to as a group..., it was simply awful (to me). One friend, who went on to go to Art School, liked it. Me? stuck with me as the worst movie I ever sat through in a theater... worse than the original Halloween with Jamie Lee Curtis. The movie: John Boorman's "Zardoz." (BTW, John Boorman directed "Deliverance.") " Zardoz is a 1974 Irish-American science fantasy film written, produced, and directed by John Boorman and starring Sean Connery and Charlotte Rampling, and featuring Sara Kestelman. The film, Connery's second post-James Bond role—after The Offence—was shot by cinematographer Geoffrey Unsworth on a budget of US$1.57 million[2] as it depicts a future world where a stone image called "Zardoz" instructs the "Brutals" to kill each other for eternal life. " I couldn't find a single movie theater ad, but did find the ad-slick movie production companies would give to movie theaters to create their own newspaper ads in the local papers. Maybe it was Sean Connery that made this movie suck? Or was it just that ridiculous mustache (hardly something that a future post apocalyptic survivor would have...) Then, again, this movie has a Cult Following..., many call it a "must see." I understand music, music theory, have perfect pitch, and can play many instruments, including non-fretted kind that demand good understanding of pitch/tone/intonation..., but lyrics, I have to read. Same issue with TV/Movies. I always watch with the subtitles on, or I would have no idea what is going on.

Welcome @fev1969. You found a good place to begin (and maintain!) your journey. the Sunfire Signature is a nice amp, and the $1000 price tag is about at market. The TFM 45 is a highly coveted amp, and will serve you (and your speakers) well. As noted by @BobTFM35, plan on getting it serviced. Any TFM amp that has not been serviced (consumable components replaced, service bulletins applied, and fine-tune-adjustments) is going to sound tired and won't give you the full rich Carver amp experience. These amps are approaching 30-35 years in age, but can sound glorious, and better than new, with high-end modern capacitors and adjustments applied. Nelion is the place to go. If you don't pick up these amps, please post in our "found deals" thread - so someone else might benefit... Me, personally? Well, My OCCD would probably buy both, and send them both directly to Nelion for service 😉 Again, welcome, and glad you found us. Please post what you end up doing! (BTW, I have 2 TFM 45 amps..., among many others! 😉

hi Jim, Isn't this grounds for a "cease and desist" letter from those legal experts able to file a claim for damages, if not stopped? I imagine that if I used "Coke" or "Coca Cola" in such a way, I would find myself in court, being sued for punitive damages to the degree and extent that I profited off their brand name AND to the degree that it damaged and eroded their brand and confused customers. Not a small number. It just sucks that some companies are this slimy..., time for a wake-up call from a lawyer's letter..., or, better yet, since they just re-placed that advertisement, go straight to filing a claim in court pursuing an astronomical number in combined damages. Nope, this is not a time to feel flattered, this is a time to assess damages. Redirecting prospects that you should be selling to by overtly using the Bob Carver name/brand is not competition, it's technically theft, and there are laws against that. ...just how I see it. AJ

Crazy to think how this applies to the dealer model of Automobiles..., a few entities out there are trying to disrupt this, e.g., www.Cars.com, and others..., but they are still a middle-man. Seems that Tesla may be selling direct..., others? I dunno. But it's ripe for disruption..., separation of service from sales..., (pretty much already separated in most dealerships - just housed in the same building)..., something to ponder.

Best place to find an original, is to put a "search" with "notifications" on ebay..., there are a lot of listings there for old remotes from people that find them between the couch pillows, after selling their receiver. I'd search on text "Carver Remote" and look at each listing..., often, people don't recall what model receiver/component the remote they are listing matched to, and they are not listed by "6200"..., And, since you had one, you know what to look for by how it "looks" (button layout, size, etc.) That's the best way to locate an original remote. But it may take patience over weeks, and even months. But it will produce, eventually. Remotes.com will find an aftermarket remote. You might also post a picture of your broken remote..., I have a box of old Carver remotes, for example, and others here might, too. But I don't know what they fit. and one of us might have one that is the right one for the 6200 (we don't have the manual, I just checked, so I can't see the layout...) Good luck!

Welcome back, Chris. Did you look on Ebay for the Sunfire remote? There are three listings today - not sure if these are the right ones - but the search was for "Sunfire Remote" so you should be able to find them quickly. I think outside of an aftermarket or Ebay, a remote for a sunfire is going to be unobtainium.

Those are "Carver AL-III" Dipole Loudspeakers (Or they might be "AL-III+," can't tell without looking at the back panel label). Like Carver Amazings, they came in stained black, or natural Oak finish. I just pulled mine (in black stained oak) up from reserves, attached to a Sunfire 600x2, and they really opened up better than I remembered when I put them away, last time. I have too many speakers..., any interest in these, let me know - mine are mint, and ribbons are fine (plays Horowitz just fine!).

Yes, that is a factor. The depth. I think, though (for my listening room) that these backed up to the wall, won't be more intrusive than placing my Amazing's 3ft from the back wall..., (at least I'm convincing myself that is the case ! 😉 ) Where are you located? There is a pair of 3.3's (along with NHT surround and center speakers) in Boiling Springs, SC, for and UNHEARD OF price of $800. I keep contemplating the drive (750mi)..., but just can't add the fuel cost at this time. They are listed on FB Marketplace. Owner want's them "gone" out of the garage... And, another (seen some use) of the 3.3's in Nashville on Craigslist, for $1200. Pair NHT 3.3's w/Custom Stands - electronics - by owner - sale (craigslist.org) There's a pair of 2.9's also, Somewhere in OH. NHT 2.9 Mid 90’s - Black Piano | Reverb And a pair of 2.5i, the least obrusive (I have a pair of these) in Mexico, MO for $300. And another 2.5i in Campbell, CA. NHT (Now Hear This) 2.5i Tower Loudspeaker 1999-2000 - Black | Reverb ... call me an "enabler..." Good luck, do not resist..., succumb to the force. 😉

I swapped out a pair of larger Polk bookshelf (modern, not vintage) speakers for a pair of NHT2.5i (their smaller towers from the original line) in our daily TV watching surround set-up. The difference was remarkable. They are driven by a Carver M4.0t refreshed by Greg/Nelion. My wife noticed the difference, immediately! I don't like using the "speaker critic buzzwords", as I don't know what they mean - but I do know when something sounds "better." That's all I can say. Now I am on the hunt for a pair of 3.3's for my main system, which I hope to replace the entire stable of speakers I've collected over the past 20 years. FWIW, the original line of floor standing speakers (as I understand it) were the 2.6 (small), the 2.9 (medium) and 3.3 (large) towers. They have since redesigned the angled front-face that I think was pivotal in making this initial line of speakers so exceptional. These models were launched in the mid/early 90's and featured a side-firing subwoofer, with forward facing mids and tweets in a chambered cabinet conducive to high-low frequency separation and clarity. A design now common on everything, including the Golden Ear Triton line. The only thing that I don't like about NHT is the grills. They have a plastic "pop-on" or "snap-on" frame that is made of plastic, and the grill cloth is heat-welded around the back edges of the plastic frame. It is (appears to be) a bitch (I have not done it) to replace the grill cloth. Too tight, and it warps the frame (bad aesthetics), too loose also looks funky. And, many used speakers on the resale market have damaged broken frame rails or holes in the grill cloth. My 2.5i's have one 1/4" hole right on the edge of the frame - hidden unless you go looking for it, but since I know it's there, it annoys me... 😉 And, while NHT has pretty good customer service - they answer emails, and often the CEO will respond..., however they don't have factory grill replacements for any of the older models - that I would have gladly purchased, if they offered them. Sorry for the long paragraph - this is just some wisdom from looking and looking in the wasteland of not very much gear I live in, for the 3.3 models, that I still am pursuing.

I didn't know where to share this - so we'll call it a cinema experience. For my birthday, we trekked down to the Adler Planetarium for the Pink Floyd 50th anniversary airing of a new 30-minute, four song, US-re-launch event of the album. I noted earlier that I was pretty bored with the story line of Top Gun, (graphics good, but not enough to carry it for me). My wife and I both agreed that the 30 minutes in the dome-theater was light years of travel and graphics. BTW, Planetarium's "Dome Theater" design is like I-Max on steroids!, it's like being immersed in the visuals. We used this multi-camera-perspectives in Imaginarium-style computer generated subservice modeling O&G exploration - but not to this level of quality. I tried to find more about the redo, and information was limited. I even asked the guy in the back of the planetarium running the show - and all he knew was that the cinema/video showed up a couple of months earlier, and they just play it. Apparently, this new piece has only been played in the London Planetarium Dome Theater and the one here, Adler, in Chicago. I presume it would make the rounds - and if you get a chance to see it, I liked it, and thought it a good value for the $20 a seat. The quality of the graphics and movement had to be done with something like Maya - it was just awesome, to me. Could it be better? Sure, more songs, longer..., and reclining chairs. Hint - Sit in the BACK, or you'll miss half the dome-theater-screen experience. There are a couple of scenes that are memorable, including the lunar launch and landing and the fly-through of the Space Station. Here's some extra information I was able to dig up, trailer, etc., - but a small-computer-screen is nothing like the multiple-projector, 18-channel sound, custom-mastered music that they played in the planetarium's dome theater. It's a bit nostalgic, as 50 years ago (video below) they did something like this, at planetariums around the world, by just adding a turntable to a 2-channel PA system designed for a professor to talk about the stars... I use an NHT VT-1c, circa 1994 for my center channel. I picked it up off Ebay in mint condition, and it looks good with my 2.6i L-R mains and gives me a good dialog-presentation for spoken words in cinema. I haven't tried any of the newer center channels.

Welcome @Paul Gardner to your first post on the site. Are you asking about the Cinema Grand receiver? Or the 5 and 7 channel standard and signature model Sunfire amplifier? If askign about the amplifier, you can identify the 400x5 or 400x7 by the gold-plated binding posts on the back. The 200x5 and 200x7 have red/black plastic binding posts. The signature model 400x5 and 400x7 have Bob Carver signature on the front faceplate too, upper left. But that may have been rubbed off, so the binding posts are the best way to identify the two power levels apart. If that's not what you are asking, apologies in advance for my misunderstanding.

More? I forget when the site launched..., but a LOT of history and threads here that will help. It's a site that has enthusiasts. No one here is "paid tech support," and some who lurk here also run their own service/repair business, so beware of that overlap. But mostly, the site membership here is real, and real helpful, "Carver Enthusiasts," that have come and gone over time, that all want to keep the Bob Carver Legacy alive and well, and that have created an entire braintrust of knowledge - just seek it out (search first, then ask)..., patience, and proper expectations. At AXPONA, there were a lot of hallway and elevator discussions on this..., that I overheard. My observation..., most were saying, "who cares"..., others were saying "MQA? What's that..., why do I care?" Sales folks showing streamers that I was looking at from NAD, Cambridge, Rose, Aurender and others, all seemed to be unable to respond. MQA must have failed to publish an FAQ to help them with questions. These vendors that engineered in MQA into their streamers had nothing to say to people at the show..., and embarrassingly quickly switched the conversation..., often to say "Roon, that's all the majority of our customers need these days. Roon handles everything beautifully." At which point, I would ask, "then why do I need to spend $x,000 on your streamer?" LoL. I'm sure that all the top MQA vendors will have a PR statement prepared in the next week or two. Lots of customers bought into MQA, with big bucks. FWIW, Roon was everywhere..., btw. 90% of the rooms I visited were running Roon, either as the app or with a Nucleus or RoCK Server in the room. Bottom line among those I interfaced with (overhead conversations in the halls, rooms, elevators, and the bar end of day) was that losing MQA was a big yawn..., and it will simplify streaming to have it gone. Others may have observed differently..., of course. But this was my takeaway. And, full disclosure, I did not buy into MQA.

How about a few more inches? World's largest subwoofer? At about 12:50 there's more on the sub itself (the LED displays nearly shake off the walls and ceiling).

60 hours..., coast to coast, and back. 😉 There are some things Ayn Rand had to compromise to make the book happen..., the end is definitely accelerated..., it could have been a 5 volume epic..., And, well, it's not always that black and white. However to do the story, she did a great job. And, she is a self-professed "author of fiction"..., and in her later interviews did not like being called a philosopher.
