New Member trying to post on the welcome page
AndrewJohn replied to opusstuf's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Welcome @opusstuf. That C-1 and m1.5t are beloved components... I'm not a tech, but it would be helpful if you shared what the issues are that you may need help with? Symptoms, what happened when they stopped working, how long since they worked last..., anything helpful will get more tech-minded members thinking on solutions. Again, welcome! Glad you found us! -

I'm in love with my Maggie IIIa's, that came out of the Detroit area..., @Robkindly helped me land and mule them. Super guy, super people here on this site! -

Welcome @Freaky_friday. Glad you found us. Your speaker journey sounds familiar! Try them all 😉 I didn't know your neck of the woods had that much vintage gear in the market..., Here in Chicago-land, for my tastes, it is a vintage gear desert..., mostly junk and undesirables in the listings. Welcome, and let us know what speakers you try, experience, and prefer..., on your audio journey (it's not a destination!). -
Yes, this is a cool feature. And, the SD/A 490t also has that feature !

The 450 and 490 are the same. But, instead of harvesting the laser, and replacing it, much better approach is to find the donor unit on ebay, and harvest the entire transport mechanism. Why? aligning the laser is more work than just replacing the entire transport, and putting new belts on it. Laser alignment (noted in the service manual) requires some special skills, tools, laser-meter, and such. [Remember that a 490t is more highly coveted unit than an SD/A 450..., so don't harvest a transport from a working 490t..., to save a lesser-value 450t.] I've seen SDA 450's on ebay go for $50. And if mint, just replace the entire CD player. Lots of options, consider the work and value of each path. Good luck! Of course, consider if your current transport might also be serviced. The entire transport is no longer available (that I have found). So, fixing the unit you have may also be desirable. Often just a good cleaning, lubrication, and new belts is all it takes. (I dunno, on your unit, don't know what the issues you are having are...but saving what you got is another path to consider - if at all possible on vintage gear.)

A little Saturday morning Mojo... 😉

Welcome @Boatsnh, glad you found us. This IS a good place to hang out. Excellent story you got, and nice to see Carver pushing those Boston's to the wife's delight. Many of us have a similar journey, with gear, divesting some/all, then recollecting ... even better! ...any day now, you'll catch the OCCD bug.

Welcome, @dubwicht We love pictures. Share you gear when you can.

Welcome @kappclark. Glad you found us. Bill, have a look in the Manuals Library. You'll find the user manual and the service manual. The 895 is a nice unit. I have one, but not in use at the moment. Also, I think there's at least one other member here that uses their 895 presently, and has even repaired it..., not sure if he'll pipe in or not. Generally, that receiver had some bad/crummy capacitors in it..., mind did, replacing those made it perform. As @jazzman53 said, we love pictures... Tell us more about your amp, and what sources you use, speakers? 😉 I didn't look, but you might find the answer to your question there.

Welcome to the forum @b-rider! Glad you found us. That receiver is very nice, and worth saving. It will provide great sound. We have the SERVICE manual in our Manuals Library (menu at the top of the home page of this site). Many of the Carver Receivers have similar operation, so another operator's manual may give you good guidance. Or, if you find one on Ebay, please consider scanning it and sharing it here, so the library becomes more complete. Just looking quickly, the 6250 manual, here: Carver MXR-6250 owner manual.pdf (thecarversite.com) seems to be very similar. The big (observable) difference between the 6200 and the 6250 is that the 6200 has only BASS and TREBLE control pots on the faceplate. While the 6250 has BASS, MIDRANGE and TREBBLE controls. There could be others - I only took a cursory look. Here's the Service Manual location (6250 docs are just below it, off the screen): You can find more info via Google, too. Try googling this string of keywords: "Carver 6200 Receiver" A Bunch of links pop, including threads here, on this forum, and on Audio Karma, and few Youtube Videos.

OK, Keanu Reeves fans... I saw this movie last night. "Siberia" starring Reeves, Ana Alaru, directed by Matthew Ross. And,..., I'm still trying to figure it out. Pretty deep, intense, best with subtitles and a few rewinds here and there to catch all the dialog. Lots of Russian language. Released just 4 years ago in 2018. If you saw it, what did you think?

Very nice !! love that look. And, clean. NOS 400t? on Ebay? Nice ! FYI. I'm not sure..., but I recall @kve777 a long-time member here, having some replacement foam, or a source for replacement foam, for the front column of the AL III's. Maybe someone else here recalls the source? It's common to see it pulled out, rotted away, or otherwise missing. Others, they like to see the ribbons, without the foam...,

Welcome, @Mark25, glad you found us. When you get a chance, tell us a bit about your Carver experience, gear, etc... 😉 we love pictures !

Welcome @magicsam. Always check the manuals library, for any manuals we have here. See the top menu bar, fourth item from the left "Manuals Database"... it's a bit clunky, but it holds the brain-trust of what people here have shared in their manuals collection over the years. If you happen to find any docs not there - please share them here in PDF, so we can keep the momentum going. Another good suggestion is to do a search on a keyword. There are several threads from members that have fixed Sunfire Subs, that may help you. ...and, if you want to start a thread on your own fix, that would add to that brain-trust too. pictures, ... lots of pictures ! 😉

Welcome to the "posting" phase of your membership, @jebba1962 ! I think that's a record..., joining in 2017, and now engaging 😉 We need a badge for that LoL! Nice resume of refresh work you have. Looking forward to your posts and sharing... And, of course, we LOVE pictures - which I am sure you know..., post some of your rig, when you get a chance.

Your strategy, then, to get the Amazings, or other non-WAF friendly speakers..., First, threaten to get those in your picture, then show her the alternative..., ask her to make the choice. Bingo, you have Carver Amazings or Polk SRS in your living room ! Bam! 😉 LoL Oh, the tricks us enablers know..., we can help you !

It's a disease..., OCCD ! No known cure.

Weclome @ZappaPatton, glad you found us. The HR 772 is a nice receiver. Versatile and you can do a lot with it, configuration-wise. Start a thread (if you haven't already) on your gear, post a picture and tell the story of how it goes as you put your system back in service!
-
Welcome @JonG. Glad you found us. This is a great place. We'd love to see posts of your TD-1700 project. Start a new thread and document your restoration! It might help another member in the future. That's a great old tape deck. If you don't have the remote, they come up on Ebay from time to time.

Welcome @65sschvy2 - love the Tom (and Jerry) avatar. I'm not a "cat" person, but Tom, I can get into... 😉 We LOVE pictures, post some of your gear, when you can ! And, we like Jalopnik, too..., (There's a forum for it under "Way Off Scale"..., so when you can, we'll need to see a pic or two of the 65 SS Chevy. 😉 Again, welcome ! -
Welcome @N58RG, glad you found us! We LOVE pictures..., so when you can, please post ..., Carver Gear..., and Airplanes... why not!
