Welcome to the group! That IS quite the collection - congrats on it! You are certainly in the right place for info on maintaining or repairing equipment - Carver and others. There are lots of folks here who have a mass of knowledge, myself, unfortunately, not included (what are all those pretty components stuck on that circuit board?!?!?!). Join in the fun, and make sure you take time to enjoy the music!

Welcome to the group! You're obviously among those who know better, here. Those who make those claims haven't bothered (or aren't able) to understand how the technology in the Carver amps works, and they prefer to assume a good amp has to weigh as much as a small car to be good. I won't offer any advice on building or fixing (my knowledge on which end of a soldering gun to hold is iffy at best), but there are plenty of folks here who can help. In the mean time, you have my encouragement to dive back in and have fun, both at the build/fix end and at the all important - "it works, time to listen" end!

Wow - I think you should take another look - there has to be some major damage you haven't somehow noticed!!!! That's almost a "blind squirrel moment!" I'm glad they made it. Do we get to see what they are getting used for??? Inquiring minds want to know! And pictures!! There MUST be pictures!!!

I can't offer much in the way of technical advice, but there are plenty of folks here who can offer advice or assist in fixing your components. Welcome to the group! I see the additive nature of Carver gear, already has it's hooks into to - too late to warn you about OCCD, so just embrace it and enjoy the ride! I'm not remotely technically inclined, though like many people here, I'm fascinated with it. As a result, I've watched many repair videos, including for the M400 series. They are a real challenge - it's very difficult to access the components to test anything in place, and it's a definite 3-D jigsaw puzzle to get it all back in that tight space. Just take your time, be patient, and don't let the beast get to you, and it'll work out great! Good luck, have fun, and enjoy the music!

A belated welcome to the group. You have quite the collection of gear to enjoy, and you are clearly making it better. Best wishes with your health issues. Welcome to the group, Duncan. It's nice to have another from the area on, here - I'm just a hair to the East of you, in Pickering. If I'm not mistaken, I think I've come across your name in the past, when looking at techs, etc., but the memory can be a bit foggy, so I won't say that with 1000% certainty. As others have said, there are definite quirks to looking into much of Carver gear - especially the "Magnet Field" amps. As long as you go in, informed, you'll be fine. The nature of how they work will often give you traces that can cause many a tech to freak out at first, but they are perfectly normal. That said, that's now the full extent of my electronic tech prowess, and I know to keep my grubby paws out from under the covers and well away from soldering irons. Trust in the techs on the site - they truly know their stuff and they are very very willing to assist and guide. That having been said, join in, have fun, and take time to enjoy some music!

Welcome to the group @Dimitri! I can't answer with any certainty as I haven't had the luxury of hearing a C-19, but I suspect you can't go too far wrong with either of those - choose based on what you want and update the internals and you'll have a great pre for a very many years. If it comes down to SH as the decider, then just remember, you can always pick up a C-9 to add to the C-19 for that - don't let that be a limit for you. Good luck and enjoy the result!!!!

Still have and use my original one. It's always been my go-to brush. I have the black discwasher brand anti-static gun. It works great and makes a big difference. It doesn't get a lot of use at the moment, but I'm shortly going to take on a full-on restore of a Thorens TT, so hopefully soon!
