  1. Perhaps disappointed...? (Yes, I live dangerously! 😉😁)
  2. Welcome to the site, @magicsam! I won't offer help on the technical side - I'm the antithesis of RobertR when it comes to electronics, and I would gladly defer anything remotely in that realm to him. Do put together a post with the info Robert suggested and asking things a bit more directly, and I would expect that the wizards of electronics, here, will come along with all you may want to know, in a bit. For now, make sure you take time to enjoy the music - live or recorded, or in your case, perhaps going from one to the other.
  3. Welcome to the group, @timothyrdykes! Glad to have you join in the convesation. Sounds like quite the nice setup. Definitely look into what the others, here, suggest for getting things tweaked and tuned. Greg will no doubt be able to work magic on the Luxman as well, as anything else of that ilk. And make sure you do ask around, here when looking for various amps, etc. There are often folks here who have things for sale, and not always listed. Regardless, good luck, and make sure you take time to enjoy the music.
  4. Welcome to actually posting@jebba1962! We're glad you decided to take the plunge and actually join into the conversations. As others have mentioned, let us know what you have for your own listening pleasure - and pictures whenever you can post them are always welcome!
  5. Welcome to the group, @MK E! Glad you decided to jump in and start posting. There are lots of folks here who will be happy to help out in any way they can. Make sure you take time to enjoy the music!
  6. Why is it my wallet always panics when Mark suggests any new music?! It's always something that warrants adding to the collection, and always leads to a veritable catacomb of other great albums! Thanks, my friend, and just ignore the screams of terror from my wallet - I know I do!
  7. That's plenty! Your ears will no doubt give out long before your speakers do!
  8. I can tell you that if you let Great at Nelion get their hands on a M1.0t, the end result will be an absolute monster! I've had that work done to mine, and the results are amazing - well worth it, and easily the match of amps many times the total cost. Just make sure your speakers have a bit more power handling capacity then, say 50 watts, or you may find your tweeters in the next county... 😲 I know I can easily entertain my neighbors several streets away with mine (and it's indoors, doors and windows closed). 😆 BTW, I can't imagine what a pair would be like as monoblocks... though there are some people, here, who can comment on that terrifying situation.
  9. I honestly can give a comparison of those amps, but what I can tell you is that it depends more on what sounds good to your ears. The so called "tuby" sound may be great, or perhaps you won't like it. I have a M1.ot that is designed to have such a sound as well. I can say it sounds great, and very clean, but having just made the jump to actual tube amps (Crimson 275's< I can say there is a massive, and immediate difference. In short, trust your ears - the are what matter, and don't ever be so married to a piece of equipment that you can't decide it isn't doing it for you, and to go with something else. If you can, try lots of different equipment. Remember, too, your speakers will have far more effect on your sound, than the amp, etc. 🙂
  10. Welcome to the group, @ZappaPatton!!! We're glad to have you here! You certainly had your priorities right at 16! Sounds like it didn't hurt with the fairer sex, either. You can't go far wrong with any of the amps you're considering. 😎 Join in the fun, and when you can, we're looking forward to pictures.
  11. Welcome to the site, @JonG! It's a nice change to have someone coming in talking about a tapedeck. Nice one, BTW, and nice to hear you have it cleaned up and working great. Just beware, according to the inescapable rules of OCCD, Carver gear is a lot like potato chips - you can't have just one - others will call out to you! I know, I tried ... and failed miserably at sticking to 1 piece.
  12. Absolutely hilarious! Thanks Packratt!!!!!
  13. Welcome to the group! Nice selection of audio, and aviation gear. I have to agree with @AndrewJohn - we'd love to see pictures of both, when you can!
  14. I'll order you some more halo polish, Dennis! @2muchbass, did you have the low volume quirk with the Adcom amp, or just now with the Carver? And out of blatant nosiness (I can't even justify it as just curiosity), what pre are you feeding things with?
  15. There's always got to be one, who drags us back to reality! 😆
  16. Welcome to the site! Every addiction starts somewhere, and that's a great place to start! Have fun, join in the discussions, and enjoy, the music.
  17. Welcome to the site! Is it possible to have too much bass? Welcome too, to owning Carver gear - I'll warn you, now, it IS addictive. I'm not sure what state you amp is in, but if it hasn't been refreshed (caps, etc.) that could explain any lack you may find it may have. In the mean time, have fun experimenting, join in on the fun, and take time to enjoy the music!
  18. But do we typically need to ... or are we smart enough to reserve that for where true, well thought out mods are being made by competent people checking their own work?
  19. Thank you, Jim. I think it was (certainly should have been) painfully obvious to anyone with enough neurons to form a synapse, that there was something fundamentally wrong with those tests. Anyone who does testing of any sort on a professional basis knows that if your test results are entirely out of whack with observed reality, you need to re-examine how you are testing, and not blindly hold to results that don't make sense. For one thing, nobody is going to produce a tube amp with 4xKT120's that only puts out 15-17 watts. I'm not even sure you could design one, unless, perhaps, you leave most of the tubes unwired... This, sadly, is another example of where common sense has largely been lost thanks to so-called internet "experts." FWIW, I'm now the proud owner of a shiny pair of Crimson 275's, and plan to enjoy their ample, clean, wonderful sounding tube power for many years.
  20. IIRC, one has small built-in amps for the time delay speakers, and the other outputs to power amps for them. I'm not sure enough which was which, though.
  21. Welcome, @RBQ! That's quite the commute! I can't offer any guidance, "under the hood," but you are definitely in the right place to find people who can. It's also far too late to warn you of the perils of OCCD, so I'll just welcome you to that club, too! That is something I understand (far too well) and can provide encouragement for!
  22. Welcome to the group. Sounds like you don't have nearly enough power-amps! Have no fear, we will soon encourage solutions to that little problem! One thing I've learned about being here - your system(s) will grow - Carver components somehow breed! Don't try to fight it - there is no cure for OCCD! 😉
  23. Welcome to the group, @Jaws! I can't offer any guidance on which speaker you have, aside from perhaps, not one I have, since I have no Carver speakers. I'm sure someone here can assist you in which you have. For now, join in the fun, and remember to enjoy the music.
  24. Welcome home! Glad you are back. Hope this means all that was overwhelming you, have eased!
  25. Welcome @BobTFM35! Glad you decided to step out of the shadows! So now we have proof that OCCD can be genetic! As if there was any doubt. You've got quite the nice collection, there, though it sounds like you've been using quite a few stamps having gear restored, so there goes the stamp collection even if you had one! Thanks to your son for keeping dad in good sound while restorations were underway. Clearly a shared love of the audio world between you two!
