  1. Welcome to the group @Riverside.Guy! You've got quite the history and collection of Carver (and other) gear - you're definitely in the right place.
  2. Welcome @kevd16! Glad you joined! Don't forget to post some pictures of your system when you get a few more posts under your belt.
  3. Still have and use my original one. It's always been my go-to brush. I have the black discwasher brand anti-static gun. It works great and makes a big difference. It doesn't get a lot of use at the moment, but I'm shortly going to take on a full-on restore of a Thorens TT, so hopefully soon!
  4. Welcome to the site! You are not "dangerous on the bench," sir - at least relative you Yours Truly! The ONLY advantage I have is that I know I'm dangerous on the bench, so my soldering iron lives in a box - not close to the bench! All jest aside, glad to have you join, and for giving that MXR130 a home. There are folks here who can help guide you with it's TLC if you haven't already sorted that out. In the mean time, enjoy the site, and do feel free to join in with the conversations.
  5. Can't wait to get a copy of this. Absolutely classic APP! I've only heard the couple of tracks that were pre-released, but they were enough to make this a fantastic album. Wow, another time machine! No question they still know which end of the guitar goes where! I definitely have a couple of albums to add to the collection!!!
  6. All of that, in a nutshell, is what always drew me to Carver designs, and is why I have admiration for the man. Thanks Bob, and Team!
  7. I've always found listening to resistors to be rather ... unsatisfying, to say the least. Just remember, never feed the internet trolls - it makes them all wriggly and happy. Ignoring them will make them go away - it make take time and tolerance from you, but if you don't satisfy their ego's. Nothing hurts them more than silence, and they will go find someone else to plague if they don't get their "fix" from you. As bad as it may seem, Jim, sadly, one of your jobs for Bob is to keep that crap away from him, and don't ever think you aren't doing it as well as it can possibly be done.
  8. Welcome to the site - both of you! Nice setup, @kittoartista! What are you using for a preamp? @Rodango, you'll find plenty of kindred spirits, here. Once you have a few posts under your belt, we'd love to see pictures of your gear!
  9. I agree - that one was excellent!!!!
  10. Welcome to the group, and congrats on your retirement! I will admit I'm jealous of that (about 4-5 years, yet for me ... maybe ...). Glad you decided to join in the fun! I hope you have a great time working on that M500 and enjoying listening to it when you've got it purring away nicely!
  11. Welcome to the group!!! Glad you decided to fully join in!!! Sounds like a really nice vintage setup - you need to have that all up and running and send pictures. Many of us have decent or great 5.1 systems, but also have our wonderful 2.x systems for music. It's a good combination!
  12. Welcome and congrats on your find. Nice amp, and well worth adding some polish to (the inside workings) of it. I'll leave it to those who know which end of the soldering iron to hold to make useful suggestions on what to do to update, or otherwise spruce it up inside. Given what you were running, I suspect you are in for a treat when you fire that fellow up and let it loose a bit. Speaking of which, what are you looking at adding to it for your systems? Inquiring (um, er, blatently nosey) minds what to know.
  13. A belated welcome, @Michele! Nice selection of equipment, to say the least! You definitely fit with the rest of us, here.
  14. Welcome to the group, 3P! Have fun with the work, and as others have noted, there are lots of folks here who can help if you need it, though I will not offer any advice as it would likely be dangerous at best, and likely much worse... 🤐
  15. Welcome to the group, Paul! You've certainly started with some nice and interesting gear! Yes, the P/S in those amps is very different from what you're likely used to and is what makes them relatively "unique!" A very different approach in audio power. Have fun with it!
  16. Welcome to the group! From what I've read, it "should" be possible to send music to Alexa using a Bluetooth transmitter. That will, however, require that the transmitter be close enough to reach the Alexa. You can likely use long RCA cables to do that, depending on just how far away the kids' room is from your system. In effect, you are doing Bluetooth streaming to it, much as you might from a smartphone, just from your main stereo system. Caveat: I've never tried this, so no guarantees that it will work - and check in case your Alexa unit doesn't have Bluetooth, though I suspect that's going to be pretty standard. Neat TT! I love the way the front plate drops as it opens, then raises back up when it's retracted.
  17. Welcome to the group, Tom! As others have suggested, when you get to where you can post them, we'd love pictures of your gear.
  18. Welcome to the group! Wow - they don't make them like THAT anymore. You have some very cool vintage toys there!
  19. Envy Of None - this is a new project including Alex Lifeson (of Rush) as a member. If you are looking for a Rush album, this is not it. If you are looking for something fantastic in the Rock / Prog-ish realm, it's fantastic. I'd heard one sample song before getting the album, and was somewhat uncertain about it. It turns out that was by FAR the weakest piece on the album. This one is going to live in my CD player and car for the next while. Easily the best new music I've come across in quite a while. BTW, if anyone thinks Alex is no longer on his game, you'd be extremely wrong. Amazing musicianship from all members of the group, and incredible sound - very well, and properly produced - just watch out for your subs!!!
  20. Welcome, @bdc, from a not-quite retired old guy from Canada. Glad you decided to join in the conversation. Sorry I can't offer much on the CD Transport issue you have, but do watch for a suitable donor unit. Often belts will go and people sell them as needing repairs, for a good price, and the transport is still fine. Good luck on it, and if I see one pop up anywhere I'll let you know. For now, join in the conversation, and remember to enjoy the music.
  21. Welcome to the site. Nice set of finds! Those should go along with your current collection quite nicely! Just beware that now you've encountered Carver gear, the perils of OCCD will begin to set in. There's no cure or escape, so enjoy the ride!
  22. A slightly belated Welcome, Clark! Glad to have you. Using the 895 as a pre sounds like great use for it. I can't offer advice on repairs to the amp (other than don't listen to any of my advice on repairs to the amp), but there are lots of folks here who can offer guidance, or even do repairs, so you are in the right place. That said, if you're driving a tube amp with it, you may never care about the poweramp section.
  23. Perhaps disappointed...? (Yes, I live dangerously! 😉😁)
