  1. I have to agree with @Turbo and @Dadvw - in no way does this make you a snob! Nice try, but no cigar. I have been finding much the same thing. I'm guided more and more by the quality of the recording, rather than the music, any longer. I just find poor recordings very very tiring to listen to. The fact that so much of what is produced is driven into distortion, to achieve a greater loudness, in recent years makes many newer recordings virtually unlistenable. And no, it's not just a new phenomenon. However, when you hit one that's been done right, it just grabs you - regardless of the music. There's just a clarity, and openness to the sound that goes way above and beyond what it might otherwise have been.
  2. Welcome to thee site, @SRGresham! Glad you found us- you are definitely in the right place for keeping your Carver gear working great. clearly, there's no point in warning you of the perils of OCCD - that TFM-45 makes it cleat you're way past saving!
  3. Welcome to the group, @tregv10! Great to have another member from north of the '49th, here. There are beginning to be enough of us, now. I can't offer any advice on the Amazing's, but I see that others have already provided the best info about Ed for repairs, etc. Follow their advice - your Amazing's will have a long happy life for many many years to come. Your friend is likely right to want them over his Mirage's - they don't wear that name for nothing. As others have suggested, when you get a few more posts under your belt, please post some pictures of your setup. In the mean time, relax and enjoy the music!
  4. A definite big welcome to the group! Sounds like you've been getting guidance from the best, and that OCCD decidedly has it's hooks (appropriately) deep into you. No need to coach you on the merits of Carver gear, nor to tell you there are great people to help look after your gear, here - you're clearly in great hands, so please, enjoy the music, but I'd suggest you lay off Handel's Water Music for now.
  5. @EADG, That is QUITE the juxtaposition of topics between the first ones and the last! Good for you! Love the balance of tech and art!
  6. Yup, it's called using words with more than one syllable - keeps most Yanks thinking we're talking in code. (And yeah, I 'm sure I'm going to get sandboxed for that one - worth it, though !)
  7. Welcome to the group, Kevin! It's great having more of us from North of the '49th, here, even if you are way out on the left coast. Your story is all too familiar, so definitely welcome to the club of finally owning some fantastic Carver gear! Love your story - if you ever find that picture, PLEASE post it - that would be a fantastic addition, here! As for SH and DTL, SH, if you have an ear for it can be dangerously addictive. That was what left me overwhelmingly interested in all things Carver. DTL is far more subtle. For adding SH, pick up a C9 unit - there are often plenty floating around, and if you look you can find a good deal. Much cheaper than going whole hog on the system, and a great way to try out SH. DTL units are also pretty available, but they are really intended to go in line with a CD player to give it a little more, shall we say, turntable-ish type sound. I don't find it makes a huge difference to me, but SH is something I can't live without, now (my main system currently has 3 flavours of SH in it - no OCCD problem here!).
  8. Welcome! That certainly IS an eclectic set of gear you have. Looks like some interesting combinations can be made. No sense warning you about the perils of OCCD, you are WAY beyond that!
  9. A belated welcome, @Wilkic65! Given the Riff Raff you appear to be hanging out with, there's clearly no point in warning you of the OCCD perils. @Rob is well on his way to earning the TCS Typhoid Mary award for infecting others with the addiction. This is a great bunch of folks, and it's a fantastic way to get into very high quality sound at an amazing cost. Carver gear is amazing and is of an era when equipment was meant to be maintained, so there's plenty of life, ahead.
  10. Welcome aboard! Nice to see someone who has had Carver gear for that long joining in. Hopefully some of the more technically adept, than myself, here, can help you out of having to follow the Fred Sanford approach to electronics maintenance. That said, my wild guess, off-the-cuff 🙂t is a speaker relay misbehaving, but take that with an extremely large grain of salt, about the size of a salt mine. In the mean time, join in the conversations, and enjoy the music (with the occasional smack to the side of the receiver no doubt in rhythm with whatever is playing.
  11. Welcome aboard! Don't worry about not having done an intro, first - you're in good company, there. I kept thinking, while reading your intro, that I should warn you of the perils of OCCD, but by the end of it, it was obvious it was far far far too late. So welcome to the wonderful world of OCCD as well, and enjoy the ride - there IS no escape, ever - not that you would ever want to if there was! Sounds like you have a very nice system, with vast amounts of potential, and more than a few "how did you steal THAT" bargains. :-) Once you have enough posts under your belt, put up some pictures for us. In the mean time, join in, and enjoy the music!
  12. Whoops - forgot to add a Welcome message to you, Pat! Glad you were able to find your way back to the Carver world. There are lots of people, here who can relate with your path. Sounds like you have a great system - and there are lots of folks here who can help you with the issues you are having. Good luck with it - I won't offer advice as it's likely to result in worse results than to help.
  13. I'm not sure if this qualifies as a joke, or something we should all just do! I've gotta say I agree with the author!!!!
  14. Welcome @Patstachio! You are in great company here. That's a great setup, and will be very hard to beat without boatloads of money, and even then it may be questionable. I can't claim to be the original owner to any of my Carver gear, so you have my admiration. When you get it right, no need to change. Your gear may work perfectly for many years to come, but you are really getting past the best before date for the capacitors, at least, but the equipment you have lends itself extremely well to updating, and in the case of the M1.0t, a whole series of fantastic mods should you want to up the ante. No matter what, there's no reason that equipment isn't going to be singing beautifully for the next 33+ years. Regardless , kick back, and join in, and remember to enjoy the music!
  15. You, sir, are just SOOOO doomed! Welcome to the club- come on in, the water's fine, just don't feed the piranhas! Time to go Mk Ii Opt 2 on the M1.0t! If you think the basic amp, is amazing... Still, great choice - you can't go wrong with one of those.
  16. It's "China Grove" that does me in for speed. Have to keep that one out of the car media for sure...
  17. Sorry Daddyjt - you are WAY too straight & sober, and not into mysticism enough to understand Jon Anderson lyrics. 😀😀
  18. Welcome to the group! Nice set of equipment! The upgrades will give you a huge step forward, even from where you are enjoying things right now!
  19. It's always great when someone who was involved with Carver, back in the day, joins - especially when they are active in looking after gear, still. You'l find lots of kindred spirits, here, along with a mixed bag of other nutcases, like myself. All of us share a love for great audio, with a particular interest in the creations of Bob Carver.
  20. Welcome to the group! You certainly started at the right end of the OCCD spectrum! No need for warnings about it in your case - it's clearly far far too late - but what a way to go.
  21. Welcome to the group! This can be a great place to dust off any supposedly rusty skills and find fun and interesting uses for them. You'll definitely find some kidred spirits, here. Let us know a bit about your musical interests and what kind of geat you might have, or might be looking at fixing or just meddling with. In the mean time, relax and join in on the fun.
  22. Welcome to the group! It's clearly too late to warn you of OCCD, it's got a serious grip on you. Sorry about you being in a w/c - my wife was in one for the last 15 years of her life, so I'm all too familiar with what that means. I'm glad to see you haven't let it stop you from enjoying things - good music is universal. You definitely have an amazing setup. I can well understand your comment about shaking the walls, neighbors, and the next villa. When you get it right, as Bob Carver did, it remains right! Good luck with the PM1200!! Let us know how it goes?
  23. Welcome to the group! Good look with the Sunfire sub. There should be some folks here who can help, though they can, apparently, be a bit tricky.
