  1. I can't claim this one as original, but it seemed to fit, and be worth posting. In a little over a day, for the first time in my life, I will be seeing 20 20 !
  2. I remember when that first came out, and always thought it would be a great way to pretty much eliminate any high frequencies, and muddy the sound. The idea of coating the grooves of a record just makes me very uncomfortable. If you are inclined to try it, I'd recommend you give it a go on a throwaway LP, first, but listen to it enough before so you can compare.
  3. I think I recognized 2 artists... 😕
  4. Beyond that, please pick anything from Trans Siberian Orchestra. Any album fits the topic!
  5. Silly question time - was there ever a "normal" CD release of this, or was it all just the "special" package with the screen, etc.?
  6. You aren't alone in your preference for post-Waters PF - aside from Animals, which I personally like the most. There is definitely something very wonky about the pricing (note these $$$ are from Amazon Canada's site): LP Version $46.00 CD Version $486.97 (yes, that IS real!!!!) This is a case where I might have to buy the LP version, as much as I prefer CDs. Hopefully they will eventually issue a Blue-Ray copy, but I'm worried that it may be somewhere north of $10,000 by the time it comes out!
  7. C O O L !!! I just checked the date 3 times to make sure it's not April 1st!
  8. Given the way that ultrasonic cleaners work, and the nature of the waves, I'm not sure that this is quite true. This sounds like someone coming from an audio background, and thinking in terms of a speaker projecting sound waves in one direction. Most ultrasonic cleaners are going to be a bit different from that. If that were the case, then cleaning anything else in one would only result in cleaning the two outer sides of the object, however 3-D objects placed in the cleaning tank get cleaned all over, including inside various nooks and crannies. I wouldn't want to stack my LPs right up against one-another, but I'd bet if you leave even a reasonable space between them, they will all clean quite nicely. Caveat: I'm no expert on ultrasonics and I've never actually tried, this, so I make no claim of true understanding, here.
  9. Sorry @oldtexasdog, I have't had time to even think about playing any vinyl. To be honest, I have about 6 or 7 CDs I haven't opened the shrinkwrap on. Hopefully soon, but no guarantees - life's been a bit insane of late.
  10. Welcome Peter! Nice setup, and at a great bargain, on top! There are lots of folks here who can, and will happily help you with the modding (myself excepted - I'd happily help, but you wouldn't be happy with it. ). It sounds like you are quite capable when it comes to working on the gear, so yo will find plenty of kindred spirits, among he people, here. 🙂 I the mean time, enjoy the music, and let us know what you listen to. 🎼
  11. In the same vein as some of the other electronics repair ones, rather than purely audio , I know that X-ray Tony B has been a favorite of a number of us, here. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=x+ray+tony+b+&app=desktop&persist_app=1 A big thank you to all, here, for some really great ideas that I'm going to have to check out. 😁
  12. I agree with the "Beautiful system " comment. As to the temperature, I don't see a freaking minus sign in front of that number. What? Too hot to go golfing. 😉
  13. Great - it's good to have someone filling the gap between the West coasters, and those of us, more mid-country (I'm just East of Toronto). Not much, from the East Coast, at least among active participants, right now.
  14. Welcome, @Chris Della Mattia! Nice setups, indeed! I can imagine that the only way to reasonably get those Amazing Silvers, up, North of the '49th, would have been an epic roadtrip, and I suspect they would not have appreciated the trek. I'll second @DrummerJuice's question, as to where in this snow buried, frigid land are you (and Owen, you can go do something rude with your weather out there - I had to dig out my snowblower, today!)?
  15. Very cool - I can sure see where and why I stopped listening to pop.
  16. Yes, likely juse the closing scene - without the horses...
  17. Full mark on all the answers, above! I'm just dreading the day someone tries a remake of Blazing Saddles or any other Mel Brooks creation.
  18. Way to go Greg!  Thank you for all the hard work!

  19. Some really great examples, above! ? But how about a wildcard? I was trying out a new cartridge a while back, and literally stuck my hand into the middle of my LP cabinet and pulled this one out at random. After playing it, I realized, there wasn't a single tune I didn't really enjoy on it. Yes, it was a visit to the way-back machine, but a great visit. I can't focus on the prog artists all the time.
  20. @Daddyjt, do we have to have the "no selfies" talk, again?
  21. One of the things that really got me started into music was a Jr. High English teacher who used popular song lyrics as the subject for studying poetry. That forced me into really listening to and analyzing the lyrics. So many songs have meanings far beyond their apparent surface message. If in doubt, spend some time reading through the words to many of Steely Dan's hits (caveat : some are not as involved). To me, the lyrics add a huge piece to music, but then I have to admit I spend most of my time on instrumental tracks these days... (there's likely a psychology thesis in there somewhere)
  22. I somehow think this is only one of many reasons! I've found the secret to a happy marriage is that I can run faster, scared, than she can mad! ?
  23. No kidding! I love it, but my wallet HATES the group of you!
