Ah, serenity and romance at it's best! Most definitely. Not someone I'd want to "verbally" spar with...

Nothing on that list that isn't, at least, good fun. No embarassment there! Totally cool! I had not seen it until fairly recently (within the last couple of years), so I looked it up. I watched the B&W version, first. It is still incredibly relevant and very well done! I still collapse into a fit of literal hysteria when I think about this one - something to do with the "toaster" in it. Took me ages to recover when it first came out.

Anthracite BillD C1 with Remote, Gundry and new PS
Brian_at_HHH commented on loner_t's gallery album in For Sale
I would say "generally no" it doesn't really affect the unit sonically. It does mean replacing the volume control with one that isn't quite the same, but I don't believe there is any effect on quality, and if you are not used to a C1 without the new volume control, you would probably never notice anything. I suspect that the reason some may not be inclined towards doing the remote mod, aside from just maintaining originalility, is that it's (a) difficult (b) a hassle and (c) very precise, finicky work that takes some very serious skill and far more patience than an normal human being possesses. Oh, one more thing - it's also a serious Pain in the A$$ to do. I was able to beg one of the great techs, here, (Daddyjt) into doing it for me, and I couldn't be happier, but I do realize what I asked of him, and it wasn't easy work for him, even with his skill level. The precision, reqired, is something I wouldn't try to replicate, but I definitely appreciate what it took, and how welcome the remote is. Please keep in mind, too, that the only thing the remote controls is volume, so it's not going to give you full power/source-selection/etc. That was all I needed/wanted. -
Given how great you've done the theater motif, it makes sense to go all the way. Good luck with it, and enjoy the popcorn! ?

Welcome to the group, Nick. Nice setup, you have, and don't fret about the AR sub - unless "you" don't like the sound, enjoy it. Sunfire gear is, apparently, a bit hard to find info on, but there are some folks here with some great technical knowledge (Yours Truly excepted, beyond plugging in Power and RCA cords). Good luck, and enjoy the music, or movies!

Welcome to the group, Michael. Great system, and congrats on the new listening room! If you are inclined towards a C1 or C11, consider @kve777's offer. If you want it upgraded, and Kevin isn't inclined, you could probably have him send it directly to Greg, at Nelion, or one of the other great techs, here. For now, enjoy the music! -
Sad, but so very true.

I think one of the things that irks me about this is that it WAS known. I remember hearing about the fire, at the time, and that tapes were lost. They just didn't acknowledge the extent of what was lost - until recently. They didn't deny it, but they simply weren't forthcoming with the information on what was lost. Part of that was the fear of the lawsuits they would get (and are, now getting), and part of it as their sloppy record keeping which meant they didn't know how bad the losses were. Many of those tapes were not actually owned by them but had been entrusted to them for safe keeping i a proper protected vault. We will never even know what many of the older tapes were that were lost. Only the "relatively" recent ones. ?
-
What's so scary about this is how long it took for the actual impact to really become public. What's also sad is that there appears to be no good record of what was lost.

I virtually stole Ravn's Martin Logan Dynamo sub. I only hope she got her Knight Shadow that she was aiming for as a replacement.

For many years I was firmly in the bigger/more is better, camp. While not huge, my main speakers had 10" woofers and were 5 way to spread the load. I always assumed when it was time to upgrade, I'd be going for something with 12" to 15" at the lower end. When I actually did go and look for an upgrade, it was apparent that the bigger/more is better, was not a valid assumption - something those with Polk speakers have known for ages. It's about being able to move the necessary air - whether by one big or multiple smaller drivers - both approaches work well. Also, more drivers at different frequencies don't necessarily work better. For what it's worth, I went from Sansui SC-45's (5-way/10" woofers) to Mission M74's (2-way/dual 6" woofers). There's no comparison, between them. All of the other speakers that made my short list, were in the same sort of size and style. The big boys got left in the also-ran group. Does that mean big speakers aren't or can't be great? No - there just weren't any I found in my price range, that could touch the sound of the smaller, more refined speakers I found. I have since added a sub, and very recently upgraded to a much better one (thanks Raven), and I find it makes a huge difference. Like @kve777 I do turn the sub off, on occasion, but I usually go running back for the on switch, because the sound just feels lacking by comparison.

new to Carversite
Brian_at_HHH replied to dr. underhill's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
I'm partial to Heavy metal Polka myself! ? (Someone once asked if we could play music over th P.A. at work, so the question of what type came up. That was my answer, which ended to whole affair). As for yodeling, I do have multiple copies of Focus' Hocus Pocus. I'll leave the rap to you, @Dennis47 ... -

Welcome, from another relative newcomer, @dr. underhill. Sounds like a very nice setup. When you have time to settle in, let us know you musical interests. No worries, whatever they are - you'll find people here who like every genre, so all tastes are welcome! -
@Packratt, your neighbors DO really love your taste in music, right? You know, the folks 12 houses down, and 4 streets over, in the next county... ?

Just for giggles, and after looking at your list, Ray, I'll say it's The Boss you haven't seen. (Good luck @dcl).
-
Thought I'd finish this and let Ray take things with his list. It's actual Genesis that I've never seen. The closest I've been is having seen Mike and the Mechanics twice. And yes, I did get to see Simon and Garfunkel, who were great, but the venue sucked - it was a stadium, where every bit of sound bounced of the scoreboard giving a terrible echo.
-
Sorry Ray, I've seen Boston twice.
-
Nice try @dcl - and touche for the video, but I did actually Ambrosia at a casino venue several years ago. They were a group I didn't think I'd ever have the chance at seeing, so it was a lucky thing - that's the only luck I use at a casino since I find gambling totally boring. Getting close. Next?!
-
No I've seen Yes about 4 times. They were actually who APP were opening for.
-
@#$%!!!! Okay, here's one more - that means there could be 2 that I'm lying about - you only need to get one lie right. Simon and Garfunkle BZZZT - you lose! Saw them a few years ago as an opener for someone. The main act in that show was just a bonus for me - my wife and I got tickets because of APP. Sadly it was after the passing of Eric Woolfson, but Alan Parson's voice was great.
-
Wow! I figured that would be too easy to be true (caveat - I am decidedly a Vangelis fan , but I haven't seen him). All one concert, eh? That sounds like it was quite the show. Okay, here goes: Yes Alan Parsons Project Boston Genesis Ambrosia Tag, you're it, folks.
-
@itchitch I'm betting this is wrong, simply because it's so different from the rest of you list: Vangelis @dcl I'll have you know I can't get that "Would I lie to you" earworm out of my head, thanks to you! The only thing that makes it tolerable are the visions of Anne Lennox that accompany it.
-
I'll take a stab at it with Van Halen. ?
-
No matter which, it's totally cool. Love your innovation. ?
