  1. Congrats! Sounds like a great excuse to crank the tunes and enjoy!
  2. Holy @#$%, you mean there IS someone older than I feel? Or is that in dog years? Congrats @Sk1Bum - only 149 more to go, before you can call yourself a classic, so you better live it up, now!
  3. Congrats on being another year younger, Barry! I know you're spending much of it at the hospital with your Mom, so best wishes to her, too. Hope you have some time to celebrate in there amongst your busy schedule. ?
  4. I had no trouble playing them from the link, Phil. When you download them, are you getting a normal size file, or is it really small compared to most? If it's normal size, then the download is likely okay, but something is amiss in the playback buffering. If it's small, something is interrupting your download/playback somehow. Good luck!
  5. Thank you, John - very interesting writeup, and some fantastic recommendations, I will have to check out. Great taste in music, BTW. I've been listening a fair bit to both Camel and Gentle Giant, but I suspect I may have missed on Interview - I will have to fix that. Likewise with the Miles Davis ?
  6. @DrummerJuice the ad pretty much says what @kingmansaid - there are 2 in "repairable/refurbishable" condition, and two only meant as parts doner's. If I were you, I'd let him know you are interested, and talk to him about them. If they are in pretty decent shape, it's a good deal. If they are more in the iffy realm, it may not be a rabbit hole you want to go down. Once you've talked to the seller, suck it up and chat with your Maggie repair friend and see if he runs for the hills, or says "cool, bring 'em on!" No matter what, good luck with it and let us know what happens!
  7. Welcome Will! Sounds like you've not only rejuvenated your own interests, but have steered your daughter along the road to great sound as well. The folks here are amazingly friendly and helpful, but we can all be a really bad influence on you acquisition of equipment. I know how badly they've done me in, in the short time I've been here. Then again, it's pretty obvious OCCD has already gotten it's hooks deep into you, as is only right.

    wav & flac

No luck on DSD, here - sorry @DrummerJuice. But that's one of the things that has always worried me about the digital format - that there's this risk they will become the flavor of the month then be abandoned for the next hot format that comes along. Then again, I hoarded some gear for playing vinyl for ages just in case... @Sk1Bum, I try to avoid communication protocols that are significantly less stable than I am!

Yes they do! I don't get ANY sound without them! ? ? ? Okay, I'll go hide, now - if I didn't just get myself permanently banned.

As odd as it may sound, for a computer guy, I have to go with the "No Preference" option, right now. I'm still in the very early stages of moving into the "soft" music world. I have to admit most of what I have are MP3, but those are primarily used for light listening off my tablet & BT headphones, and especially to let me decide what I like enough to buy in a quality format (for me that's typically on CD). I'm quite interested in the results, here as it may influence which way I go. To that end, thanks for the survey and thread @Sk1Bum!
  11. Merry Christmtas, everyone. I have never encountered a more warm and welcoming group, than all of you. Please take the tome to hug your loved ones, and let them know you care. Now take a moment to look around and know there truly are a wealth of good people in the world. Thanks for being who you are!
  12. Happy Christmas and Merry New Year, one and all. I promise not to try and sing any Christmas or other songs. ? I just got my notice that Santa's delivery to me is ready and about to be dropped off:

    Vinyl

Definitely an interesting take on Vinyl. It made me realize what my fascination with vinyl is, aside from having a collection of LPs most of which didn't make it to CDs. It's not sound, CDs, etc. have Vinyl beat (the basic premise to vinyl is flawed), and it's sure not convenience, because it's anything but. No, in my case, I've realized I'm enamored with the technology. Just the shear mechanical complexity and precision that has gone into them to create very decent quality sound. I think my work in the digital world (I'm a computer nerd, after all), just the fact it's mechanical, and basically doesn't even add power to the sound it produces (aside from that produced by the cartridge, of course). I'm drawn to such things, for some odd reason. I write with fountain pens, stereo over surround sound, tube guitar amps over computer modelling, and physical media, over online digital. Yeah, I know, it's not justifiable from any logical perspective, but damn it's fun to mess around with. ?
  14. Nope, no OCCD issues, here! Way to go, Mopardamo!
  15. Welcome oldmako! I can't offer you any good tech advice, though there are many here who can and will help, but it is great to see someone rocking a set of Phase Linear gear, joining. ?
  16. Welcome Arnaldo, from another new member. I'd warn you about the addictive qualities of OCCD, but it's obviously too late. I went the same sort of route, without having much previous carver gear (just dreams, now being realized). I have a C1 and M1.0t, both in getting the full makeover with one of the many gurus here. I picked them up knowing at their age a full overhaul would be needed, then I would be set for many years of musical pleasure.
  17. Welcome, and don't pay attention to the threats of OCCD. It's not real, and it's not addictive .... honest ... never happens .... oh @#$%, hide you wallet, now!!! Oops, it's too late, isn't it... well, at least it's not addictive - I know I can stop any time I want ... but why would I want to? Welcome to OCCD and the site! You have already started becoming assimilated, and you are in the right place to find people to encourage it.
  18. Thanks for the encouraging reviews. We cant get out to the theatre anymore, but this is now definitely on my to-get DVD list. ?
  19. It's not Wind(a magnetic field transformer)? Then perhaps its What's-it-to-you? To be honest, without having the luxury of actually meeting the man, and having to go on hearing how gracious he is to the folks, who do, I would have to lean towards Wonderful, for what he has given us over the years. That said, I suspect he might take a certain amusement over us trying to figure it out, and be all the less likely to solve the riddle.
  20. You're quite welcome, but the real thanks go to whomever captured them and put them up to begin with. ? I'm going to very tentatively suggest Stephen Wilson's To the Bone as a good album for SH, but with a couple of caveats. My reason for selecting it is that I just don't enjoy it without the SH now. I accidentally left it off one time recently, and wondered why it sounded so flat. Now the caveats, and they are big. First, I actually have not listened to it with SH through my speakers, only headphones, so I don't really know how it will work under "real" conditions. Given that my speakers are now set well for SH and I'm limited in how much I can move things around, if anyone does try this album properly, please let me know how you find it. Second, and I did allude to this earlier, if you have a C-9, don't turn on the theoretical mode - there are tracks that essential;y degrade into horrific electronic noise. I'm not prone to using that setting, but I will the first to admit I have no willpower against curiosity, and it gets the better of me all too often.
  21. The individual tracks are here. Hopefully I can get the links right. http://thecarversite.com/yetanotherforum/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4569#post4569 The thread I found things in is: I owe a big Thank You to the folks on that thread and to whomever put up the links to the tracks.
  22. Remember guys, poor DaddyJT has to LIFT this 125lb sucker INTO his truck. It will be tough enough getting it in the back, let alone through a side door. Now I know he's definitely quite the macho, he-man fellow, but he also needs something left of himself at the end to get it out and then into the house. The goal is to survive to be able to listen to it. If it's padded well enough, wrapped well enough, and strapped in, okay, it will be just as good as in the back seat, short of something horrific happening. Anyone volunteering to meet him there to help out? It's a bit too much of a commute for me unfortunately.
  23. Too true on both counts! I fell into the same happy trap.
  24. I can definitely second the Meguires for scratches. It's something that gets used a lot in one of my other hobbies to polish out fine scratches in clear plastic. That said, here's wishing you luck that you never need it!
  25. First off WAY TO GO!!!!!! That totally rocks! That will be a stellar addition. +1 for the plastic wrap. Then use the soft blankets. Oh and invest in a furniture polish company - you're gonna need it. ?
