  1. It hasn't been explained that m4a is not an audio file format. It is a container that can contain either a lossy or lossless file. The conversion to mp3 from an m4a file very well might reduce your file to a lossy format. Will you hear it? I dunno. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-4_Part_14 But since MPEG-4 Part 14 is a container format, MPEG-4 files may contain any number of audio, video, and even subtitle streams, making it impossible to determine the type of streams in an MPEG-4 file based on its filename extension alone. In response, Apple Inc. started using and popularizing the .m4a filename extension, which is used for MP4 containers with audio data in the lossy Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) or its own Apple Lossless (ALAC) formats.
  2. Stunning Italian progressive gem from 1975.
  3. After a full year I'd say you're far enough down the Carver rabbit hole you ain't never getting' out! The company is welcomed.
  4. Is anybody going to vote for a track or artist they've never heard? Aside from my own submissions I have 9 of these tracks already, another nine I wouldn't care to ever hear again including every Eagles track. There was a time these songs were practically inescapable. A reference disc has two purposes for me; To present something sonically unique, to introduce new or otherwise overlooked gem recordings. It is not a place to rehash old standards in my view. Curmudgeon mode off.
  5. Ok, this guy's a nutball like the rest of us. He'll fit in just fine. Welcome, Chops.
  6. That's how I listed them: song, artist, album. Both are suggested for the reference disc only and I can supply lossless files to whomever is compiling the tracks.
  7. Yes. Two separate projects; One commemorative, the other sonic. Creates less work and expense when someone only wants one or the other disc. I didn't submit anything for the sonic side because the project seems to be running counter to what I'd want. For the reference disc: Water Under The Bridge, Pshychodots, Psychodots Jaco, Jonas Hellborg, Bass
  8. If I may speak candidly, I don't really have an interest in a commemorative disc. The body of work left behind suffices for me in that regard but of course I'll support whatever is eventually decided. However a new reference disc is an exciting notion and I'd be happy to contribute. I'm far more interested in the tracks others find to be of particular quality than simply being from a musician who's passed. How can I help the effort?
  9. I've been sitting on a couple tracks just waiting for the next reference disc project, but they won't meet the criteria being discussed.
  10. Give this guy full membership for that. Full stop. He's OK.
  11. The Lightstar preamps are just as rare and without the remote they are complete bricks. There are no manual controls and no repair parts available. I understand if you 'just gotta have the set,' but functionally there are better options out there.
  12. I would be totally into submitting some new tracks for volume II of the CaverSite Reference Disc. If we all ganged up on DaddJT maybe we can make it happen?
  13. I bought that one new in '79 after hearing used as a demo for Advent in a stereo store....back when we used to have stereo stores. This recommendation is a bit of a plug, but I don't care because this one's a stunner. I plug for the people I represent because they do something special, something remarkable, and have a talent level far far beyond the ordinary. Otherwise why bother, right? Mike Keneally and Beer for Dolphins Sluggo! Deluxe Edition remaster You don't have to take my word for it because reviews of this remastered edition stuffed with extras and an incredible sounding mix score supreme praise from all who cared to write about it. Considering this album was out of print for a decade Mike's decision to remaster it the way he saw fit gave him a chance to wipe the slate clean on an album with which he was never quite satisfied based on the sonics. As for the sonics now? Damn! 14. Welcome, Kevin. I'm just south of the state line in TX
  15. .....and Pee Wee Herman was busy getting his Rachmaninoffs
  16. I was introduced to that Crimson album in 1982 and it completely changed my musical direction. While immersed in a party school atmosphere I stuck out with regard to my musical choices thereafter and became thoroughly involved with the KC catalog. If this music appeals to you then be aware this band changed many personnel and existed in many incarnations, each a distinct animal from the other. That said I unreservedly suggest acquiring a copy of their album called Lark's Tongues In Aspic as the next step in the King Crimson sonic universe.
  17. This guy could have written the soundtracks to every Tarantino film,
  18. If Apple does decide to shut down iTunes and migrate solely to Apple Music streaming service I suppose I'll have to migrate my library into some other environment -- but what a gigantic pain in the butt it will be to re-tag with all new metadata because Apple's methods are proprietary.
  19. With streaming on the rise and the addition of Apple Music service we may well see the end of iTunes. This would also explain Apple's long resistance to adding hi res offerings via the iTunes store. http://www.digitalmusicnews.com/2016/05/11/apple-terminating-music-downloads-two-years/
