  1. Agreed. Of course surfaces will vibrate to some degree at some frequency, the thing to consider is that additional non-amplified speakers will vibrate even more because this is what they are designed to do. I suspect this ancillary effect would be most prominent in the mid-range frequencies with a sharp roll-off at either end. This additional resonance would tend to enhance the fullness of the tested speakers and be more pronounced when some threshold volume is reached.
  2. Welcome to the site. There are many who consider the M500t the most musical of the Carver amps, however you wish to interpret that. In proper working order, the M500t is a very smooth amp that can play all day without fatiguing your ears. The M500t Mk-II is a real game changer.
  3. This thread timeline is screwed up
  4. Perhaps the best way is to download the manuals from Sunfire and compare between models you're interested in having. Oh, and welcome back.
  5. You could be right about that, Rod. Wayne, good info there. These would indeed appear to be general copies of the CRM-2's at least made by someone likely to have some inside knowledge. It also explains why I couldn't find any info on them.
  6. The SH claim is pure BS. Holography is electronically induced upstream from the amp stage, not at the speaker. Sure, Polk does their version at the speaker but that requires cabling between the speakers and their ain't no such option here. More likely is they guy simply copied the Sunfire text and doesn't really know what SH is. I also like how he went to the trophy supply shop to make his nameplates. It would be interesting to hear them but not for $625.
  7. http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRS-I-PURDY-CREATIONS-RIBBON-SPEAKER-PAIR-THESE-LOOK-AND-SOUND-WONDERFUL-/251097619280?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item3a76959b50 They look like a knock-off of the Cinema Ribbon and no doubt use Bob's ribbon design now distributed to Dayton, but I can't seem to find anything about them. In the auction description they even use "Sonic Holography" and "High Back-emf design." Seems kinda fishy to me. The seller also has a used pair of CRM-2's for sale. Compare the detailed descriptions of both auctions. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUNFIRE-XT-CRM-2-SPEAKERS-GREAT-/251106987858?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item3a77248f52
  8. There's and excellent new interview with Christophe Godin of Morglbl available here for anyone so inclined.
  9. I'm sure we all appreciate the education on these unique subs, Lakadian. Stick around for the ride. It sounds like your approach to music and audio equipment mirrors my own.
  10. 1000 miles? Whoa! You got it bad!
  11. World's greatest pick-up line: "From the moment I saw you I had a strange urge to buy a minivan."
  12. The PR machine has started to crank ahead of the release of the new Mörglbl album on 6/5/12. Soon you'll find Brütal Römance everywhere but you can stream the title track here and 6 more song samples here!
  13. I never had anything beyond a Discwasher but my sense is that as the CD took hold and people let their vinyl go or simply stopped caring for it those who bought up collections needed an efficient way to deal with all the cleaning. It would seem that lead to the popularization of cleaning machines. In my vinyl purchasing days I never once saw a cleaning machine but positively everyone had a Discwasher.
  14. I love homegrown ingenuity. Love to see how it works and how well it works.
  15. Just completed season 1 of Deadwood......again. I am convinced as ever this was the best show ever on TV.
  16. Another Axpona review.... http://parttimeaudiophile.com/2012/03/11/axpona-2012-bob-carver-purity-audio-amr-and-analysis-plus/
  17. Wish I lived closer. I'd love to be a helping hand and learn a thing or two.
  18. You should choose a higher bit rate than 192k. Bump that up to 256 (128k mono/ joint stereo/ VBR) 128k mono will be 256k stereo. If you always plan to use the Apple universe for replay, you can use Apple's lossless codec. If you want to make a permanent archive then rip everything into FLAC for storage. You can then transform the FLAC files into mp3 for playback on Apple devices and still have a high quality permanent file for other devices.
  19. I picked up on "Shameless" a couple weeks ago and have watched the entire first season and all available second season episodes in about 5 or 6 days. The show is a real hoot. Now I'm running through the first season of "Homeland."
  20. Perhaps that's why it was edited.
  21. http://www.audiostream.com/content/bose-and-beats-are-about-back-end-donkey-neil-young Nice video clip, I just wish it hadn't been edited.
  22. This may be old hat to some of you, but I recently discovered a cool site for bootleg recordings mostly of unreleased live shows made from soundboard or audience recordings. I've sampled a few and found the quality to quite good. Right now I'm listening to Frank Zappa live from Rotterdam, 1980 and it is excellent. Check out the vast library of shows for download! http://bigozine2.com/roio/?p=987
