I think it was determined that if the 742 is blinking Pre-on, then it is in some kind of protection mode. I don't remember anyone solving it though.

For me, Carver site surfing has always been a great time to listen to my "real" stereo so i never use the player in the top right corner. So i personally have no opinion on what you folks want to do with it. my 3 cents. (due to low Canadian dollar)

Welcome Vin. There are a few members who have tried repairing CT17 models without success so it would probably be wise to avoid that unit. The C-11 is definitely more rare than the C-1. The C-1 had a longer production run, from 1980-88 whereas the C-11 ran from 89-91. I think you would find a refurbed C-1/C-11 a step up from the CT17 in terms of sound quality and it is much less complicated.

I would say the crossover should be set by your HT processor, not the amp. The crossover on the amp should be set to "FLAT".

The ultimate receiver can't be used as a separate power amp in the traditional way because there are no external jumpers to separate the pre and power amp sections. If you use an external preamp into the 8 channel input of the sunfire, you are basically connecting a preamp into another preamp. What MAY work is this: (and we should get conformation from others first) Connect the external preamp to the sunfire 8 channel input as desired. Turn the Sunfire volume to absolute minimum. Turn the external preamp volume to maybe half volume. Play some music and very slowly turn the Sunfire volume up until you hit the volume you want. Then, leave the Sunfire volume at that setting and don't touch it. Use the external preamp volume control to do all volume adjustments. That MAY work. I have an URll and I just use the TV to switch HDMI. The TV has 4 or 5 inputs. Then I use the digital/analog inputs of the Sunfire for sound. Its a little more tedious but it works for me.
