New to Carver

Recommended Posts

Greetings: I finally have (6) months of use with my Carver TFM-22 amp and C1 Pre amp and couldn't be happier with my purchases. I am an old classic rock guy that still likes to listen to my music and twist the volume knob to a favorite. I have the Carvers paired with my original 1981 Cerwin Vega AT-15 speakers. While we all have different ears I can say mine find this setup very pleasing. I pulled out Mountain Twin Peaks and could not believe how crisp and vibrant Leslie West's guitar sounded. The Carver setup has put new life into these speakers and has them thumping with joy as my next door neighbors can attest to. I had Neil Young Live rust playing and the next thing you know a few neighbors were over having a beer and talking about music.

Welcome Mr. Bert!  Does the 62 indicate your birth year? I was born in '62. Glad you found us! Lots of Classic Rock listeners here, myself included.

Welcome MrBert,

A TFM-22 is a sweet sounding amp.  I had one once but now I have several TFM-25's, which are identical to the 22 except they havewiper meters and the 22 has LED's.

If your TFM-22 hasn't already been refurbished, by now it could benefit from a full recap and -2 Service Bulletin upgrade. If you look in the amp and repair sections of the forum you can find a parts list and instructions to refurb a TFM-25.  A 22 uses exactly the same caps as a 25 everywhere except for the meter board.

Post some pics when you can.... we love PORN

Howdy mrbert62 and welcome to the forum. Nice to have you on board.

Please post photos of your toys so we don't have to beg.
There are several ways to do that but this method works best for me:

From the Post A Reply window click on the Insert Image applet icon on the top tool bar.
It allows you to upload files as large as 14 MB and automatically resizes them to 800 x 600.

From there you can insert a public link or browse to a file on your hard drive.

Once the file has uploaded click OK, then click INSERT.

Yes, 1962. That put me right into growing up with great classic rock during high school in the mid/late 70's. Such a great time for that Genre. Last year I resurrected my old slot car hobby. This year it's my audio system and vinyl album collection. I had always wanted a Carver system when I was younger so now was the time.

Thanks for the photo Mr. Bert. emthup.gif

I suggest adding risers/spacers between the TFM-22 and C-1 for ventilation. Heat is the enemy of elecronics!

Welcome to the site. Good to see another upstate NY member chiming in. That C1 is one heck of a nice pre - and I was always impressed by the CV speaks. You should be able to get a good solid entry level TT in your pice range and KVE will not stear you wrong. However, beware. Hanging around here you are very likely to contract OCCD.

Enjoy! party.gif

Just so you know, OCCD stands for "Obsessive Carver Collecting Disorder" a problem many of us here are afflicted with......I started with a single Carver amp, and a Carver tuner....now I have 7 Carver amps, 2  Carver tuners, A pair of Carver speakers, as well as other misc. audio equipment....so good luck, you'll need it.emwink.gif
