  1. Was notified that my unit shipped out today. This will make 2 DIY projects along with the slate plinth TT. I will be a busy boy on my days off... This is it.....
  2. Dennis, its going to be a while before that ultra is done.......still have 6 weeks before it gets here. But as soon as I read this thread I was wondering if it would work on them. BTW.....I'm sending that 760x out tomorrow or Monday......couldnt do it last time I was in. Things are finally settling down here now.
  3. Ummm.....isnt that kinda like a band of today doing a remix of, ah, lets say "Lucy in the sky with diamonds" and people going "Wow" thats new.... This guy started it (or was it Kraftwerk?).....or at least made it a household name. Take a listen. What was once old.....still is.... Not for me Kevin, but if it rocks for you....cool. Fon, fon, fon, on the autobon......
  4. The difference, for me in my room, with the QRD is something I'll not go without with the open baffles I own. I was lucky in the fact that I started with a empty dedicated room.... It made my system sound like a piece of crap. I barely listened in there till the treatments went up. Started with a few, just to see..... Then added more, including the poly and the ceiling absorption along with the bass traps.... The QRD just brought depth and width to the soundstage I didnt have before..... But heres the thing.....when I place my arrays in the room......its not quite right, something sounds off. I'm guessing the QRD would do much better on the back wall, than the front with these..... Although when I use my GR speaks for the low end...dipole subs...it gets better I like what the diffusion does with the open baffles. I think if your curious the temp poly might give you an idea of what diffusion behind your fronts will do to your sound with dipole/bipole type.
  5. This is the poly I had in my room. It is on a wood frame, but you can make a temp one with just a sheet of Masonite with two straps. Like I say, just tighten or loosen the straps for a bigger or smaller radius. That way you can customize to your room and taste. Behind it you can stuff insulation to form a bass trap as well.
  6. Before my big QRD on the front wall I used a poly diffusor. It worked well with the dipoles......quick and easy to try. Two ratchet straps and a $10.00 sheet of Masonite. You can adjust the straps for more or less radius in the poly. An afternoon while the wife is away will let you know if it does what you want.
  7. Never would of dawned on me that I could torture the cats with this......but now that I know, cool... Seriously.....I never would of thought about the pets......Thanks!
  8. I was listening to a Rega P6 with a nice cart-(cant remember which)-at a local high end store. He put on a few different albums, when he played a Ricky Lee Jones album it popped and cracked. He immediately pulled it off and stuck it in THIS $4000 contraption. 6 mins later he put it back on. I was astounded at the improvement.....no mess no fuss. It sold me on ultrasonics. I should have it built by the end of summer, I'll post a review then.
  9. I've been wanting to build an ultrasonic album cleaner for quite a while now. The main reasons I havnt yet are....1) its expensive to find one thats 60KHz, most are 40KHz, and 2) I have doubts about the quality of the China made "Cheapo" units. So I'm checking out the DIYaudio site on these DIY units when I notice an young American (yes I said American) company is offering 60KHz-6Qt units for $375.00. The catch?....Instead of metal externals, it comes with plastic.....Bingo! Exactly what I've been waiting for. Dont know if any of you have been waiting/ looking......if so this may interest you. Theres a month of pre-order before they start making the DIYaudio batch. I'm ordering mine now . HERES the post, #667, on DIYaudio. HERES a link to the order page
  10. When my 17 yr old daughter brings 17 yr old boys to the house, the first thing they want to do is check out my system, they all want to see "The Record Player" they're mesmerized by it. They dont get it.....its like new technology to them. The second thing 17 yr old boys want to do......is the reason 53 yr old me hangs around too much, according to my daughter.
  11. I didnt realize that Skiingninja offered some ALS x-overs. Seem pricey though, even the DIY kit......
  12. No......but they magically set carts.....I've seen pics.
  13. My Father in law has that set, he loves it! The Geo disc intrigues me..... ENJOY GENE!!

  18. I went shopping with my wife today. I've heard rumors of a big indoor flea market with a guy that has 20+ thousand albums. The rumors were true....I convinced my wife to come cause she'd enjoy it.. I was flashed looks when we walked in....its huge....it smelled of must and old tobacco...cool. She left me for an hour.... Jeff Wayne.............War of the Worlds Yaz....................... Upstairs at Erics Bad Company........Desolation Angels 10cc.......................Bloody Tourists UB40.....................Labour of Love Rough Trade..........Avoid Freud 54-40....................Show me Doucette................The Douce is loose Max Webster.........Universal juveniles (sealed) My wife picked out: Jean Michel Jarre....Equinoxe Jean Michel Jarre....Oxygene Yep this reads like a radio stations play list in 1985..... one day I'll grow up.
  19. From what I've read the 60-80kh work much better.... Was thinking one revolution, have to figure out how much time per rev, and I'd like to incorporate a fan for drying as well. Talk is cheap......but I've been thinking about one of these for a while now....
  20. Its not so much getting one, its finding a 80kh one thats not worth an arm and a leg. The fricken shipping up here to Canada just blows.....I'll have to save my pennies.
  21. Keith Monks ......dont they go for around 6K new?..... I witnessed what a 4K ultrasonic can do.....impressed?....you bet your sweet bippy I was. Will I spend 4K?? nope, but I will spend 600.....ULTRA This summer hopefully.
  22. ITS ONLY JUST BEGUUUNNN....... Sorry couldnt help myself.
