I started a construction project last year, and as always you get involved with a new team of project managers, site supers and a bunch of other people from the general contractor. One of the quality control managers and I were talking about speakers and gear and he mentioned their IT guy had won a competition at the local technical school for a speaker design. A few months later I happened to meet the young gentleman on site. We talked a bunch about his designs and I had a great time. He said he was trying to get a speaker company off the ground and I told him when he did, contact me. Today i get an email, they have launched......good for them They have a deal with Best Buy and their products will be sold there.....prob just in Canada, still cool. Anyway, its a bookshelf in a unique arrangement you can see them HERE Nice to see a couple of young guys trying to live the dream.

Thats the crappy thing alright. I really enjoyed the road shows, had a ton of things come here. Some people.......

I remember the road show that Snow put on with the Bendini...it did seem to work. If I remember correctly I was looking into getting one, but as with all things imported to Candanavia....it was more than I was willing to spend.

So how do you guys think this applies to Open baffle speakers like mine, or the Amazings? I would imagine the same principles apply. But do you think theres a benefit? The floor in my room sits directly on concrete with 2x4 on the flat shimmed every 6" and fastened at each shim point, the void is stuffed with insulation and there is 1 1/4" of sub flooring glued and screwed on top. There is no give. I guess the only way to see if theres an improvement is to try them out. If I have time this weekend I'll give em a go.

Interesting article, especially around page 6 or 7 where it was asked if the coupling methods, if they work that well, could be measured.......then it got all fairy dusted. Funny Amirm didnt chime in with his usual 10 thousand word essay, being the measurement guru he is. Not in your own back yard I guess......

My last set of speakers sat on small casters. I always planed on spiking them but never did. On my new speakers I was using Ricks risers until I found where I want to place them, then was going to spike. But a few days ago I placed them directly on the floor and tilted them back a bit....as per the design.....using a couple of magazines as lifters. I think I'm going to try a couple of ball bearing in the front and see what happens, I'll drill a small impression so they dont float around, and let the back end sit on the floor. Spikes have always been a pita to move the speakers around. But, it doesnt hurt to try them if you have them, I have a bunch here that I've had for years, and prob one day when I'm bored they'll have a go.

Steve.....the conspiracy is "real".....lol Welcome Jeffery, glad to see you made it here. I met this gentlemen at an audio gathering in Edmonton this last summer. He is exactly the type of person that will meld in perfectly with this group....audio crazy. On another site I heard him say how fond he was of his new Carver gear, so I nudged him this way. I hope he likes it here, I see everyone is being their gracious selves.... Welcome again..... Perry -
Nice Dennis and Dom, those are treasures. My father inlaw must have 800 cds and 1 thousand albums..... I`d wait to inherit them but hes only 7 years older than me and in better shape..... He`ll prob get my stuff..... He loves his tunes and his gear.....his place reminds me of kev pics of gear. Many, many pieces well kept and stored with original boxes, manuals, etc... He just bought himself an Oracle Delphi....he loves it My wife grew up around gear all over the house and music always playing... She thinks what I do is normal.....

Good solid bass has always been a goal when using OB set up. My Super V with the servos play flat to 20hz.....yeah I know flame away, but its true. I dont defend it anymore, its on the net to be found, and when people hear them thats when they believe.....but they are expensive. Look at the Orions, same idea to a degree, but way out of my price range and thats before the 8ch of amplification required. I also understand why your looking for a full range, kind of the same reason the coax was so appealing to me. When Danny first came out with the pro coax driver people looked at him side ways, I was one of them. But really with all the good press, and the reception of them at the last 3 RMAF shows, they have garnered a following with hundreds of sets around the world. There are 5 pair here in Alberta, and 5 pair of V1s as well.....only 3 million people in the whole province. You need a good x-over designer to mate the coax. Danny just hasnt designed for AV123...... He has designed many x-overs for a lot of good speaker companies.....Carnegie, Usher, Tyler acoustics and many more. Hes also the deisigner of the LS-9 and LS-6 line arrays. These were all reasons I choose his products But yep, the high end stuff is pricey. I've never heard the X-statiks, but they have good reviews, I dont think theyre going to sound anywhere near the excellence of Marcs sytem. You would have to spend more.... I just want to be sure if you decide on them and they disappoint, that the $379 cost is taken into consideration. Hate giving promotion to people for this reason. My advice to you would be.....save. I've built many speakers, it wasnt till I spent over a couple $K on a kit that I realized I have a product that I would never of been able to afford other wise. On the other hand.....$500 for a working OB.....well, decent bookshelves cant be bought for that. And they might bring hrs of enjoyment for you while you save for the dream speakers. I just dont want you to hate me f you dont like them..... Perry

Welcome......if Gene likes you, then so do I...... Lots of info here, the people are great as well.

In the back of my room I store all my extra speakers....I've never checked to see if they vibrate or not. There is a total of 90 drivers....between the 2 arrays and center. Now I just have one set back there while the other is in use. I'll check to see what happens when I'm home next, but cause they sit in a corner I bet they move. There is also 16 x5" planers...The Daytons(Sunfire)....and 16 x5" ribbons (Founteks) wonder if they vibrate as well? My room is well treated so maybe its not an issue...would be interesting to take measurements on REW with the arrays in, then out of the room. I'll try it, I havnt taken measurements with the arrays yet anyway.

Heres another one by Rick Craig of Selah audio. He is a buddy of Keeles and built this in the same shop at the same time....theres some pics of them together in the shop HERE when they were both under development. Rick is the guy that designed my arrays...

Mike.....your a man after my own heart. If you build it.....then you have it.....excellent!

Well.....In the last 5 yrs I built a few different speakers, all from kits by a couple of designers on Audio Circle. You can see them here. If you have access to a mill shop I wouldnt hesitate recommending Super V ($2500) these include everything you need but the cabinets. I own the V-1, a discontinued model a step down. Keep in mind that these are open baffle and have a powered servo sub lower half. For the price I think you cant do much better. Heres a thread of a guy that just built a pair, what he replaced with them, and what he thinks. I cant see replacing mine with anything else. Good luck on your search.

A good open baffle design can send you to nirvana. In the last few yrs there has been some outstanding designs. DIY means for the price of good bookshelves you can build world beaters. Any good with a saw?........

Yep....should of explained myself better, hes a great guy and doesnt push the "moderator" button often...........see, still here! Steve is a huge fan and a moderator of the planer circle at "Audio Circle" as well. He is also a tube gear fan with some beautiful equipment, but has a bunch of everything else too. What I did to fix the cat problem......

Yep.....they look like mine. When GR first came out with the V series, he was criticized for the design similarities. Really the only thing in common is the look. The Vs have their own amplification for the bottom end, the servo subs, and the top is a Pro PAudio 12" Co-ax. The 97db sensitivity of the C0-ax allows it to be driven with as low as 6 watts, this appealed to me because of greater selection of gear you could use. When I bought my sunfire amps it was in my mind to build a set of Orions. I settled on the Vs because of the cost....mine were under 2k for the kit....and the great reviews they were getting. The only member here that has heard them is Balok, I think he liked them. Since the development of the Vs there have been a ton of debate between the Vs and the Orions. I have read some discussions that have become down right nasty between the two camps. I dont want to go there. I was fortunate enough to finally hear a set of Orions about a yr ago......they were very nice, I enjoyed the greatly.. Its good to see Web developers out there that offer their goods to the public. Its one of the things that have made hobby a better thing in the last 10 yrs or so. These products could never leave the ground without the internet.
