  1. Welcome and thanks for sharing your journey with us !!
  2. Get the Weller. Replacement parts are available, it's well built and should last a long time. You didn't say what exactly isn't working. Does it power up? Replace the relays first. If you get sound, you know the power supplies are functional. You should go slow, paying close attention to capacitor polarity. Take pictures before you touch anything so you can refer back to them if you have any question as to "how it was". The faintest ink is better than the best memory... I would verify all of the power supply and amplifier sections are working before touching the tuner trimmer. Do you have the procedure and tools to align the tuner properly?
  3. Welcome !! We are all happy you are on board. Advice? Take your wallet out of your pocket. Hold it in both hands. Talk to it gently, explaining how you are sorry for what you are about to do to it. Let it know it will be OK after it gets a chance to recover - probably in 3 - 5 years... Recommendations? The C-1 should be given the "BillD" treatment. Easily one of the best "bang for your buck" mods you can do and it creates an excellent foundation for a system. Your choice of amplification is excellent, IMHO. You will have plenty of clean power on tap, especially once they are both updated / upgraded. Check the foam surround on the woofers in the ALIIIs. If they are original they will need the surrounds replaced.
  4. Welcome !! We're glad you are with us.
  5. Welcome !! What type(s) of gear are you going to work on?
  6. Hello Max - welcome to The Carver site !! We're glad you decided to join us. My sister lives near Stocka - where are you located? As Rod said - Swedish banjo music - we'd like to know more about that.
  7. In other words, racism / bigotry / prejudice does not happen unless it is perpetrated by WASPs. We care not for who the best qualified person for any said position might be, only that something about them must be different from a heterosexual white person of European descent - you know, roughly 64% of this country's population. Got it. Fuck Hollywood.
  8. What a bunch of losers. You guys couldn't identify great cinematography if it was dropped on your heads via a 70mm IMAX film roll !!! Newsflash - it was supposed to be filmed all herky-jerky. It made it more lifelike and super scary - duhhh !!! Tell me you didn't have terror in your heart when Heather found Mike standing in the corner, screaming his name - and he wouldn't turn around - and then the camera dropped. 😲😲😲😲😲😲 Talk about true talent in cinematography !!! Why don't you Scorsese wannabes take your $60,000 and make a cinematic masterpiece? I'll wait... Next you're going to say that Barney Rubble wasn't a good actor. Stick to reviewing stereo gear guys, stick to stereo gear.
  9. Welcome to the CarverSite !! Be sure to make a few more posts so you can throw some pictures of your system up. We all look forward to your journey - say goodbye to your wallet !!!
  10. Welcome !! We're glad you found us. Thanks for sharing your story.
  11. Welcome !! Nice amp - I'm partial to the M1.0t myself. I've managed to collect a few over the years. I wouldn't say it's a ticking time bomb - I'd say it's more of a ticking disappointment. You have a family / friends gathering and the music is playing and then a cap lets go and the music stops. Send it to Greg at NelionAudio.com and he will whip it into shape with all sorts of high quality upgrade parts. It will be good for another 30 years and it will sound awesome. What speakers are you driving with it?
  12. CHEATER !!!!!
  13. This one might be a contender...
  14. I win !!!! 🙂
  15. Welcome !!! Glad you decided to join us. Quickly respond to a few of the posts and then you will be able to post some pictures of your system. (That was a hint... 🙂)
  16. There's two camels with broken backs now Mark. I just heard about this show from a friend yesterday afternoon. I find myself in a difficult position. I want to watch the film to see if the content actually represents the media noise around the advertising but I don't want to support an immoral, sick production if that is truly what it is. I will choose the safer avenue and just not watch it. The sad thing is if the film actually has value and does not depict children in a poor manner it is receiving huge backlash from just the advertising done for it so far. Maybe morons in advertising will learn from the experience - but probably not. Selfishly I hope Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. all go this route, along with cable TV. Then, maybe, Americans (especially children) will learn to again find great value and satisfaction in playing with friends outside, having hobbies that require physical motion, reading quality books and learning about our world and the amazing things and people who live on it.
  17. Good morning and welcome to the place for all things Bob Carver !! (and quite a bit of other gear too !!) We hope you find it a place you want to hang out, share and just relax in.
  18. Welcome !! Thanks for sharing your story with us. I like that list of amps - what are you driving them with ?
  19. Midnight Rider...
  20. Welcome !! Glad you found us. Now that you have 5+ posts you can throw up a pic of your system. I passed on a pair of Thiel 3.2 (I think - it was some time ago) and have regretted it ever since. They sounded fantastic as I recall. Go here, check out the site and then contact Greg. Your 900 couldn't be in better hands. https://nelionaudio.com/
  21. Your experience is obviously different than Kevin's. However, it does not mean his experience is "incorrect". I can assure you - connect a DSP "tweeter" output to a Carver amp, play a "spirited song" and give me a few Jack & Cokes beforehand and you will definitely see smoke coming from those drivers. If you were blowing tweeters with passive x-overs you were most likely clipping your amp. Using an active x-over will allow a smaller amp to play louder than the same amp driving through a passive x-over. Perhaps that is why you didn't blow them with the active x-over - you could achieve the volume level you wished for without driving the amp into clipping?
  22. No, Barry's link was broken. I fixed it with duct tape.
  23. Welcome Ed !! I'm glad you are infected with OCCD and are willing to share that info with your new friends here. Once you get 5 posts or so I believe you can post pictures of your system(s). Please do so - we love audio porn !!
  24. Well, by looking through this thread you can see there are a few others that have successfully deployed active crossovers in their systems. You might as well pull that stuff out, knock off the dust and get to work !! You should get plenty of help via posting in this thread - and by posting pictures along the way. People here LOVE pics. The main reason we have a "no boobies" picture policy here is because Greg is a humanitarian - 3/4 of the members would collapse from dehydration caused by continuous staring and licking of their monitor if a picture of a nice set were posted. 😲
  25. When I got them from Travis the tweeters were all missing. So, to answer the question, they do have the RDO194s. I thought it was worth the gamble to drop $400 on tweeters for them - as it turns out I was right. I want to hear the NHTs and the Tektons - if either can best the Polks I would consider a purchase. I find it a testament to the quality of the Polk design that people still find them good after 35+ years...
