@Daddyjt Mark - thanks for sharing the results of your madness. I want to hear the NHTs because I moved my AL-IIIs and AL-III+ pairs downstairs due to liking the SDA-SRS 1.2TL Polks so much more. IMHO the Polks just deliver better sound - especially the bass. With both sets of AL-IIIs I ran a True Subwoofer - with the Polks it is not needed. Please keep posting and sharing - you are missed for sure. @kve777 Kevin - thanks for the song tip - amazing mix to torture a speaker for sure. With this damn pandemic closing everything up I have not found a place to hear the Tektons. I really want to see hear what you are so excited about. Speakers are fun - too bad they are so damn expensive !!!

Welcome !! Time to slide some main line Carver amplification into the signal chain !! Thanks for joining us. We appreciate having new members on the site. EDIT - I almost forgot - be wary of a particular member that goes by RodH. If you get a PM from him regarding sheep or goats please report to the Community Admin so he can reel him back in. He's mostly harmless - unless you are a sheep or goat...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/184329810619?ViewItem=&item=184329810619 You can give these guys a call. They have been in business for a LONG time and I doubt they would have any trouble giving you info on that driver. I've done business with them when I lived in Tampa and they were outstanding folks. https://reconingspeakers.com/

Welcome to the forum DD !!! Nice equipment you have there. What about the speakers and turntable(s)? Yeah, we're nosy like that around here. After 5 posts you can upload pictures - which we fully expect. 🙂 Pros - Not bending over to flip the switches. Music playback is available instantly. Internal components experience less thermal cycling. Lights in the 500t most often fail on power up so that is avoided. Cons - Electrolytic capacitors have ratings based on hours of operation. Always on = shorter lifespan measured in actual listening hours. Lights in the 500t are rated in hours of use which is obviously reduced if only powered on for playback. If a connected component were to fail or misbehave resulting in a high signal level "noise" to be produced, and you are not home to power down the equipment, your equipment and speakers could be damaged. You should consider sending the C-1 and M500t to Nelion Audio for the C-1 BillD treatment and the M500t MKII upgrade. The electrolytic caps in both units are due for replacement, the BillD upgrade is especially nice for vinyl users and the amp upgrades put the icing on the cake. Greg will make two good pieces of gear spec out into two great pieces of gear - which should last for many more years of listening enjoyment. Welcome String !! Great amps you have there. Give Greg a call at Nelion Audio. He can discuss your amps and the possibilities for them. He's also very active here - probably because he owns the joint !! 😄 @Nahash5150 is his username, breathing life (and sometimes superpowers) into Carver gear is his game.

If you can see light through this it definitely needs repaired / replaced. Hard to tell in the picture but it looks like it could be separated to me.

Stu Hamm is one of the greatest bass players of all time. I've seen him with Joe Satriani and Jonathan Mover - nothing short of amazing.

Take a peek at this post and see if it helps at all:

Wow - that thing looks like some kind of "modern art". I like Advents too. I still have a pair of the bigger 5002 series. 10" woofer with a tweeter. Great sound, decent cabinetry work. Heavy buggers for sure. Cheesy terminals but an easy to upgrade speaker. Smooth, balanced sound. Henry Kloss had a good ear, IMHO. Advents were the first speakers I drove with my new M1.0t back in 1985 or so.

Welcome to the asylum !! Congrats on the amp - it's a true powerhouse - be careful !! What kind of sources and speakers are you using in your system ? You know, a picture is worth a thousand words and to really answer us properly you will need at least 2,000 words... That's a LOT of typing... Just saying... 🙂

I have two pairs of them - AL-III+ in black and AL-III in oak. Neither pair have the ribbon buzz and neither have splits in the wings. I wonder if that is more common in low humidity environments? I have lived in FL and TN and both are far from low humidity. I replaced the woofers in the AL-III+ pair with the then currently available Eminence equivalent to the old woofer, the BP-102-4. They sound great. I replaced the woofers in the AL-III pair with car audio subwoofers, the JL Audio 10W1v2-4. Note: there is a response difference between woofers and subwoofers. My ears did not like the lack of upper bass that was apparent with the JL units installed. If you find yourself out of sleeping pills and counting sheep just isn't working, you can read some about it here: My thread on changing drivers in the AL-IIIs

If you are reading this you likely have multiple experiences with the scenario. A person you may know or may be meeting for the first time visits your home. They likely notice at some point that you enjoy music and conversation around the stereo system is likely to begin. You turn the system on at a reasonable volume level and probably answer questions about the various parts and pieces. They tend to ask more regarding the speakers, especially if they don't look like traditional box speakers. (SDA SRS 1.2TL's) At some point you likely explain about power - how music can be incredibly visceral, emotionally charged when played at higher levels - without noise or distortion. Your new audience is all in - they want to experience this for themselves. They ask you to play something to demonstrate what you are talking about. What do you grab and throw into the Oppo ? Explain why - is it the overall score? A song with a "special" drum solo, lead guitar, bass line, piano solo, etc. that really stands out? A song that vividly demonstrates huge presence, wide range and distinct subtleties? A particularly impressive vocal performance? I'll start - and I didn't even select the song this time. A friend brought his new lady friend over, with the express purpose of letting her hear my system. She was a bit on the "stereos are the same" wagon and he wanted me to show her how different one could sound from another. The stereo was already on when they arrived and I was trying to end a work call so they had 15 minutes or so sitting in front of it while I completed my work day. After we talked for a few minutes I asked her what types of music she preferred. Soft rock, classic rock, some jazz, easy listening. OK. She then says “On the way here we caught the end of a song. That “I’ll be right here waiting for you” song. I like that one – can you play it?” For those not familiar, the song she was referring to is “Right Here Waiting” by Richard Marx. It was a reasonably good recording job in 1989. The song starts with an electronic keyboard score, followed by a very distinct medley on the piano. A bass movement is then brought in that is very expansive sounding. Throughout the song there are very striking bass notes, keyboard tones, etc. that jump out at you when played on a quality system. His lyrics are very clear and there is a nice acoustic guitar solo in the middle as well. To be honest I had not really given it much thought before but it is a great demo song. I played it at the same volume as when they came in and she said that it sounded “good”. I asked her to sit in the sweet spot. I asked if she was OK with it played loud? She said sure, I love it loud. I re-queued it, set the volume at 2:00 o’clock and hit play. The look on her face was priceless. She kept looking over her shoulders and she asked afterwards where the side speakers were? We talked for a bit and she asked how could it be so loud but it didn’t hurt her ears and it was perfectly clear? I smiled and said “Thank you Bob Carver and Matthew Polk”. I gave her the tablet and let her play whatever she wanted. I had a good time hearing quite a few songs I hadn't heard in quite some time. I'm going to let other people drive more often. I tend to play what I like and am familiar with - leaving a huge portion of music in my library unheard. Not any longer...
