B-Man replied to nwlaznik's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Welcome and so sorry for what is about to happen to your wallet !!! ? Seriously - MKII Opt 2 that M1.0t and refresh the caps in the M1.5t and you will enjoy them for a long, long time. -
To all the good people on our forum - Greg and I have been working to get everyone's medals assigned. As of 11:15 AM ET today (9/16/2018) I believe I have finished going through the original site list. If you feel I have missed one you had previously, please send me a PM so I can look into it. Please be patient because we all have day jobs too. ? Thanks for your patience. Brian

Hey Eddie - good to see you post !! It was good to spend time in "the smoking lounge" and thanks for working your mixing magic on the burgers !! Poor Greg got drafted into the grill duties but did a great job of controlling the grease fires !! Be safe driving home !!! Brian

Welcome (again) !!! Circuits & Concepts is your best source for the cap upgrades for both of the series of amps.

Because Hollywood sucks big ones, my favorite can't be my favorite. Jack Reacher is supposed to be a 6' 5" blond haired, blue eyed, 260lb bad-ass. If you read the book series he is the epitome of a bad ass good guy. How the hell Tom Cruise got picked to play him is beyond me ? As South Park said, I'm still waiting for Tom Cruise to come out of the closet !!!

Looks like he left off the height - 22" wide at the top, 28" wide at the bottom, 10" deep. Strange way to measure something...

Welcome !! Thanks for joining the asylum !! We love getting new inmates... Get a partial refund, keep the amp and use the $$ to have it refreshed. It's a great unit and it probably would enjoy working in your system for many years to come.

Finally found high res streaming system for 2 channel system
B-Man replied to David H.'s topic in Pure digital
Good point Greg. I don't wonder. When people don't like what measurements have to say, they typically avoid stating them. Kinda like wires and such. 12 AWG is fine for supplying 20 amps @ 120VAC to a table saw (2,400 watts, BTW) but somehow it isn't up to par for sending 1,000 watts to a speaker ?? People are funny. :-) Flame suit on !!! :-) -
My younger brother bought "Leftoverture" when it came out. I remember listening to "Carry On Wayward Son" and trying to understand what the lyrics were all about. Once we got our fill of that song, I actually listened to the rest of the album. "What's On My Mind" is one of the better songs on the album. Crazy - I thought it sounded so good on a Sanyo receiver with a built-in turntable and cassette deck. My older brother was more of a hard rocker. He heard us listening to the Kansas album and made a derogatory comment. Two days later he walked into my room and gave me this album. He insisted I play the 1st track right then. He is 10 years older than me and was my idol at the time. I threw it on the turntable and was instantly hooked. I still think this is their best work ever.

Who uses which media for primary listening and why?
B-Man replied to halfbaked's topic in Physical digital
I would love the chance to audition all of that gear in a system that has been assembled together like Ray has done. I think it would give insight into how he hears vs how I hear. I think I may be able to afford a couple of those items but I'd never be able to pronounce the names or type them out to order them !!! -
Hey - another audio genius !! (With the name Brian, it just makes sense !!!) We are glad you found us. Your story has more to do with a lot of us here than you might think. Thanks for sharing it with us. Please look around, post some pictures and let us know if you need help with anything.

That is one of my favorite albums. Would you please elaborate on the exact copy you have ? I want to see if I can find it and give it a test run. Do you know if you can FLAC it and preserve the 5.1 playback and all the other nuances / subtleties you have noticed / like in the recording ? -

As far as media goes, you guys will laugh at me but I listen to FM radio 98% of the time. I turn it on every weekday morning at 5:00 AM and it plays all day until around 6:00 PM. When I listen "seriously" I will play CDs on my Sony BDP or just use JRiver with the FLAC files. I took the time to rip all of my CDs to FLAC. JRiver is the mechanism to get that digital music to my analog ears. I love JRiver for a multitude of reasons, but one of my top five would be this : Select an album you don't know. Play it. When you hear a track you particularly like, JRiver lets you give it a star rating. 1 - 5, 5 being the best. Now, when you are just wanting to play familiar tunes that you know and like, simply tell JRiver to randomly play only 3 star tunes, or 5 star tunes, or any star-rated tune, etc. It's a great way to jukebox play a large collection without having to hear songs you don't particularly like, especially in a party or get-together atmosphere. I am lucky in that my tired ears think CDs and FLAC sound awesome - I need not search for improvement in that arena. Saves me money for Jack & Coke. ? -

The death toll is now at 11, with 80+ injured. Over 700 buildings were destroyed and 17,000+ acres were burned in Sevier County alone. On a positive note, on Thursday, country music legend Dolly Parton said her charity would donate $1,000 a month to families affected by the fires. I rode my bike across the Cherohala Skyway on Thanksgiving day. When I got near the TN / NC line it was kind of eerie. There had been a fire nearby and for miles the air smelled like a recently extinguished campfire. To everyone who sent me a message to check on my welfare, thank you very much !!! I appreciate it !!! The TBI has arrested several folks for arson related to all of these recent fires. If convicted, I say they soak them in gasoline and light 'em up !!

Welcome Perry !!! Please post some pics of the Close & Play - I haven't seen one in eons !!!!!!

Hi Vin - welcome to the nut house !!! Not to rain on the C-11 parade, but you will need to keep your CT-17 to use a a tuner or buy a separate tuner if you want to listen to the radio. The C-11 is a pre-amp only. Your CT-17 is a pre-amp / tuner. That said, black Carver tuners can usually be had for a decent price, as long as you don't try to nab a TX-11b. Thanks for sharing and good luck. Brian

I doubt the caps have leaked - there is a glue present on the caps in most Carver amps that was used to hold the caps to the board during the wave soldering process. If the caps were in that bad shape, I would bet the amp would sound like it had issues. I know of no way to calibrate meters without proper test gear. To properly calibrate something requires using test gear with operating specs that are better than the gear you are trying to calibrate.
