You'll be putting the mkII treatment to amps in no time Travis !!!
-
Welcome to the mad house Jim !!! Repeat after me - pictures... pictures... pictures... I must post pictures... Even though the horse is dead, I'll throw in another vote for the M1.0t mkII Opt 002. If you decide to go the C-1 route again, they are readily available and can host a slew of modifications / upgrades - all documented on this site !! Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing you around... Brian

Welcome to the zoo, UM !!!! Pictures !! We want pictures !!

I picked this up at Costco a few weeks ago and just had the opportunity to watch / listen to it. While it isn't the best video you have ever seen, it is a lot of fun checking out the artists and listening to the interviews / commentaries after the performances. I must say - a LOT of the fashions in the 1970's were SCARY !!! (Check out Todd Rungren performing "Hello it's me") I bought my set from Costco for $29.95 but they are available on Amazon as well : Midnight Special 7 Disc Set I see on the TimeLife web site there are larger collections available, if you can't get enough leisure suit action in 7 discs !!!

Welcome to the nuthouse Mark !!! I applaud your willingness to experiment and share. The fact that you are on your 5th iteration of your cable is a testament to the work involved in designing anything of value or functionality. You will not find ridicule in this forum, unless you are willing to argue a point that is known to be incorrect, from a physics standpoint. I have a question - do you feel that the level of capacitance in the interconnect cable is more important or signal destructive than potential noise / hum induced because of the lack of shielding ? I ask because I am certain the electronics in the TT were designed with an expected range of capacitance and resistance for interconnection. Has your testing included making measurements with electronics that can verify the end effect of the cables on the output signal in the pre-amp ? Thanks again for sharing and I look forward to more information (and pictures ) as your project continues.

Wife Approval Factor - very hard for male-types to predict and plan for. Typically demonstrated when said male brings a new pair of speakers, subwoofers, etc. home as a result of a great "score". The level of excitement can be severely limited or even destroyed by a low WAF. Conversely, this level of excitement can be exponentially increased by receiving a high WAF.

A long and winding road

Be very careful with having a shop work on your amp. LOTS of techs do not understand how the mag field power supply works, which unfortunately often leads to them causing more damage to the amp... -

Welcome to the site William !!! Pictures are always appreciated - everyone here loves audio porn... There are plenty of knowledgeable folks here to help revive your sick M500t, if you are interested. Thanks for joining and pull up a chair - there is lots of entertainment to be had here. Brian PS. Your avatar is great !! -
Welcome Raven !! I am looking forward to meeting everyone at Carverfest this year. Thanks for sharing Greg with us... Brian

Do you by chance have a total time assigned to each disc ? It is possible to put more than 80 minutes on some discs, but it can render them useless in some players - especially older ones...
-
Mark, If you post send me a link to an ISO download, I'll pull it down and try to burn it to this Disc # 1 blank I have. Just an option to mailing another disc... Thanks again - I'm listening to Disc # 2 for the 2nd time - great content !!!
-
Don't be apologizing to me - I am happy as hell to have Disc 2 !! I think I am going to invest in a LightScribe drive - that is too cool !!!
-
My bad - I didn't try Disc # 2. It plays perfectly... It appears my Disc # 1 is blank - when I plugged it into my PC Windows popped up and said I see you have a blank CD - how do you want to format it ?? Figures - I REALLY wanted to try the Bela Fleck tune out... Thanks again Mark - Disc # 2 is AWESOME !!!! Johnny Winter is KILLING IT as I type this.
-
Thanks Mark - Simply Awesome Karma !!!! Gotta get a new CD player I guess - My DTL-200 MKII won't play them...

Glad you stopped by... Stick around - it will only get better !!!

Queensryche - Another Rainy Night Don't slam the door, on your way out Don't leave without saying goodbye. Another long distance night alone, you leave me wanting, always leave me wanting more. Last word today, coming home to stay ? Wouldn't that be nice, for a while ? But now my take-out food is growing cold, and the candle's burned a hole in the floor. And I'm still waiting for the ring of the phone. I'm all alone It's another rainy night, without you. Guess I'll leave a light on for you. It's just another rainy night, without you. Listen, there's a foghorn blowing from the coast tonight. Remember making love in the rain ? Strange how laughter looks like crying with no sound Raindrops taste like tears without the pain. I'm not much without you, can't leave if I wanted to. Maybe that's why you stay around ? But tonight I'll sit here tending the fire and pace the floor one hundred times in an hour. And check the voice-mail for a message you've called. I'm all alone It's another rainy night, without you. Waiting by the phone. Alone. It's just another rainy night, without you. Guess I'll leave a light on for you. I know I've said it before hate the sound of the closing door and your footsteps walking away. But now my take-out food is growing cold, and the candle's burned a hole in the floor. And I'm still waiting for the ring of the phone. I'm all alone It's another rainy night, without you. Waiting by the phone. Alone. And it's another rainy night, without you. Guess I'll leave a light on for you. It's just another rainy night, another rainy night, another rainy night... Without you.

Out of all the parameters that define a driver's characteristics, the impedance is probably the least important in your scenario. As Rod said, .1 Ω is nothing to worry about, even if you did replace all the drivers. Remember, it is an impedance rating, not a resistance rating.

Heard - a pair of Thiel 3.6s being driven by a pair of massive McIntosh mono blocks. My friend and I listened for 15 minutes or so and then I asked the salesguy to pull the subwoofer out of the mix. We all walked forward to the speaker setup to discover, much to our surprise, that the subwoofer was not connected or powered up. The Thiel's remain the benchmark of speaker perfection for me. I had a chance to pick up the pair for $3,000 - floor demo models. I kick myself to this day for not doing it... Heard - a close friend of mine has a pair of KEF Reference Series Model 4s that are very impressive. He is driving them with a pair of Acurus A250s and they are impressive on every level, although they need a subwoofer to get to the deepest bass regions. Owned - My current AL-III's remain the longest standing pair of speakers I have ever kept in use. I bought them new in 1998 and have driven them all this time with a pair of M1.0t amps. As you guys know, I treated my beloved M1.0ts to the mkII opt 002 upgrade and it really woke the AL-IIIs up. Paired with my C-1, it is audio nirvana for me. Owned - Believe it or not, I bought a pair of Advent Legacys while in college, from a friend. A 10" woofer with a soft dome tweeter. Powered them with a Sansui amp and preamp. For the $300 I spent they sounded incredibly good and I often got the WOW !! look from people when they first heard them.

While you still have the ability to edit your post, you should consider removing everything before "Now,, I picked-up a set of 901 series iv..." BTW - Welcome back to the site and post some dang pictures !!!! Some "in process" pics of the restore, refoaming, etc. would be awesome.
-
Awesome !!! Who could resist that collection for $20 ??

Second Carver pre so now it's member time.

Hi Ben. Welcome to "Carverville" !!!! If you spend some time in the Pre-Amp Modifications section of the forum, you will see several stickys about the C-1. You should spend a few minutes reading in there to decide what mods you might think you want to have done on your C-1. From what you have said so far, the "BillD" mod is a must and a given. I am one of the guys here who likes to tinker and my personal specialty is the C-1, so after you decide what you want to have done I would be happy to discuss getting it done for you. One warning though - I have two people ahead of you for BillD / remote mods, so it might take a bit of time. I have a "regular" full time career so this stuff is done in my "down" time. Thanks for sharing your system - stick around. A better compilation of humans enjoying a common theme cannot be found anywhere. I am happy to be a member here. Brian -
