  1. That will work perfectly - I run a 95 and a 105 myself... I've never used the balanced outputs, but I use the 2ch RCA out, and they're fed by the same DAC... Wow - same day delivery... Not in MT;-)
  2. Wayne, As Morris said, as long as your source chain can process Dolby True HD and DTS Master, you're fine. By source chain, I mean your player AND processor, if you're running HDMI. However, if you're only using the HDMI to run the video, and running audio via 8ch analog (the preferred method, IMHO), only your player needs to have the required decoding ability.
  3. Welcome to the forum! That's a great amp you have there - Enjoy! Let us know if you need anything.
  4. The stats you have listed are boarderline irrelevant when it comes to surrounds. Much morre important are dispersion patterns and voicing to your mains. Most speakers designed for main L&R duty are not an optimum choice for surround duty. For example, the Klipsch RB7 is an outstanding bookshelf speaker that retailed for about $800. The RS7 is a great surround speaker in the same line, and retailed for about $350. Even though the bookshelf model has greater power handling, better frequency response, and higher sensativity, it can't compete with the RS7, because it wasn't designed for surround use. It's a fools game to pick audio equipment based on stats. As James said - listen to them all, and choose the best SOUNDING one:-)
  5. Very nice! Have you done any upgrades to yours? Are yours SDA SRS? Blade blade?
  6. Thanks bro - I always said, it's better to be lucky than good;-)
  7. It's usually pretty slim pickings out here too - been pretty lucky this past year though: 2 sets of kappa 9s, a set of AL IIIs, AL Silvers, and now the SRS pair. 10 hours was the longest round trip (for the IIIs). Come to think of it, it's probably GOOD I don't live on the east coast, or in California...;-)
  8. Thanks Dan. What's the best way to clean dust off the "tacky" surface of the 6.5" drivers? Also, do you have a link to the "upgrades" that people do to these? Thanks:-)
  9. I'm with Brian - we often forget to try the obvious (and free) solutions...
  10. So I get a call yesterday from a buddy who's inserted himself into a widow's estate reduction. He says "Are you still into stereos and big speakers?" Well I think we all know how I answered that question - So lunch finds he and I on a trip about 30 miles out of town to a very nice house in the country - This is looking good! When we get to the house, the guy meets us outside, and leads us to a 60 x 60 shop/airplane hanger. Set between the studs, about 5 feet off the floor, are a pair of vintage Polk SDA SRS speakers. Mouth watering, I strugle to remain indiferent. We chat a bit, and settle on $500 for the speakers, and the NAD component system running them. I think I got a great deal - Polk interconnect cable included, and a 12 foot pair of Kimber 8VS speker cable. The speakers are a little rough - I may need to re-finish the grill cloth. I also need to make new top and bottom wood plates - they are a bit rough - they look to be walnut...? Also, what would be the best way to clean a little bit of dust off the slightly tacky 6.5" drivers? Thanks for looking guys - Ps - Did we ever firm up the "speaker whore" medal...? ;-)
  11. Welcome to the forum. You will be pleased to know that there is no competition here for the biggest this, or the most of that. All most of us are seeking is the best sound we can get, and most of us have been around long enough to know that great sound can come from the simplest of systems, all the way up to behemoths that baffle the mind. We like photos because it gives us a gage on what's important to each of us in our systems, and also it gives us ideas to try in our own set ups. Kick back and enjoy! We've all been where you are right now...:-)

  14. Welcome Sean! That's a nice compliment of Carver gear you have there! Kick back and relax, knowing you've found a place where you can talk audio with people who's primary listening habits do NOT include mp3 and ear-buds. Enjoy the wealth of knowledgeable members her - ask any questions you want, and prepare yourself for the barrage of requests for photos of your system:-) Mark

  17. I am currently running mine with a pair of 1.0t mkII all day long. At my realistic listening levels (LOUD), they tickle the yellow lights, but they are never pushed to distortion. The 500t is fine on the highs, but not the lows - The drivers are where the wild impedance dips occure. Polydome repair is best farmed out to Michael Marks here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/INFINITY-Kappa-6-7-8-9-PolyDome-Driver-Rebuild-Service-I-Can-Fix-These-/221485612227?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3391923cc3
  18. I'm going to buck the trend here, and reccomend the Polks. I have experience with both, and for my money, the Polks do everything at a "B+". The Amazings do mids and highs at an "A-" to an " A", but bass at a "C". While I'm not a "Bass monkey", I will not go without a SOLID low end, and I just don't get that from the Amazings. I have invested in an active crossover to try and get what I want out of my Amazings, but have not implemented it yet, so who knows what the future may bring. Please, before anyone gets defensive, this is just MY OPINION... All of that being said, I would find a set of Kappa 9s. As for the impedance challenges, put a 1.0t (mkII?) on the bass, and a 500t (mkII?) on the highs, and don't look back - You'll get the solid bass you are seeking, and everything else

  20. Welcome aboard Chris! Always nice To have another experienced soldering iron in the crew;-) I must say, as many times as Gene has made me get MY wallet out, it's nice to meet someone that gets into HIS wallet for a change!! Congrats on starting your own business! Hope you enjoy the site and the company.
  21. We all gotta start somewhere ;-) We're here if you need help!
  22. Welcome Jim. I really hear what you're saying about not having enough time to do the finer things - glad you made it to a point in life where you have some freedom! As everyone has pointed out, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the TFM 25 - great amp. The 1.0t has quite a following (and very rightly deserved) - I'm running 3 right now myself, all mkII modified. Kick off you shoes and stay a while - you've happened across a very special corner of the Internet. Glad you found us:-) Mark
