New guy...Happy M-200T owner!
Dadvw replied to Tailgate's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Welcome Tailgate! Nice find on your amplifier! I think you will like that amp and you certainly will after a refresh. Keep us posted on what you decide and if you have questions, just ask away......grin -
Welcome Hal! You have a nice collection of gear there, especially the reel to reel. I would love to have one of those models fully refreshed but I don’t have the space for one. You will enjoy your gear when it gets back home. It will sound great and last for many years. We have several good techs here that do great work. Depending on where you live, it might save you some shipping costs. Take a look around and we hope you enjoy the site.

Nelion Audio is the modifier I would recommend. Others are available too. -

Welcome submariner! You have some nice gear there. If you are going to keep it, it is worth getting it refurbished. It will sound it’s best and have the service bulletins completed as well. -
I just watched this one yesterday......it was shrink wrapped and had a $.25 sticker on it.......VHS too.......😂

Welcome to the site @Jeffery Finkbeiner! Congratulations on keeping that receiver all these years after buying it new. I heard Carver in the 80’s, couldn’t afford it then so I started late in life. There is plenty of knowledgeable people here to help get that receiver working like new. Take a look around and enjoy the site......grin

Welcome @Blueprintt! You have 2 nice pieces of Carver gear there. Get both of them refurbished and your music will sound great! BillD the C-1 and refurbish the M1.5t and I think you will be impressed with the sound quality. We have the service manuals if you want to do it yourself or great techs here that can do it for you. Take a look around and enjoy the site!

SACD vs DVDA vs FLAC pt #1 - The Nightfly, Donald Fagen.
Dadvw replied to Daddyjt's topic in Physical digital
I can understand this completely! I chased Yamaha gear from the 80’s until 2010. Then I decided I wanted some Carver gear. I purchased new Paradigm speakers and started collecting gear. My problem all these years until about a month ago, was speaker placement. I have never set my speakers up correctly for the last 40 years. Gear was always hooked up right. Since my speakers are setup correctly, I am hearing things in the music I haven’t heard before. I guess an old dog can learn new tricks.......😀 -
Welcome to the site! Glad to hear you enjoy working on your own gear, always a challenge but rewarding when done. Post pics when you can, we love pictures. Take a look around and enjoy the site.

A must-listen album, IMHO... Especially for SH.
Dadvw replied to Daddyjt's topic in Favorite songs to X by
Now that I have my speakers set to where I hear the stereo image, I was listening to Chuck Loeb’s “All there is” and engaged the SH. I was hearing a difference that sounded good, wider sound stage and instruments more separated. I have never had my speakers setup correctly until recently, so I have never heard SH function “correctly”. My speakers are not setup anywhere near the correct positions per the manual. But I am in the sweet spot when listening to music. -

Ok Dick, now you’ve done it. I had to go buy that album too........grin -
Welcome @347 Tony! Thank you for stopping at the Carversite station aboard the OCCD train. We each have a different destination aboard the train but we are all powered by Carver........grin. Enjoy the site and if you have questions ask......grin

Nice posts @Butcher! I think one that needs mentioned is Terry Knight who managed Grand Funk Railroad at one time. He screwed them over royally with what he calls “bad investments” and made off with a lot of their money before they finally found out about it........😔

Just an intro, new member.

Hi New member here!

Get them both refurbished and they will sound great and last a while........grin -
Right now, for good smooth bass response, they are 12” away from the wall and straight, no toe in. Vocals are center (used a Diana Krall cd for test) and music is in between the speakers. Engaging SH shatters the image. Speakers are about 10ft apart. Only had a short time to play today.
-
Manufacturers recommendations are a minimum of 8” from the rear wall and no mention of toe in. Right now they are straight, 14” from the wall. Image is what I have heard before, need more time to play with the position of the speakers and see how it affects the image I hear.......grin
-
Yes, vocals are center and polarities of everything is correct.
-
I guess I am trying to understand what to listen for so it sounds good. What I have learned in my setup so far is I am about where you are in the sweet spot. What I am hearing as the “image” is when they are adjusted about 14” from the back wall with a rear port, I hear the vocals in the center of the space between the speakers, and I hear the music fill in that space too and I don’t hear it coming out of the speakers anymore. Is this what they are calling image? Before this, I always heard the music coming directly from the speakers.
