Howdy folks!

Recommended Posts

First off, very happy to have found this place. I have owned the CT-17 & TFM-25 since the 80's and, along the way, added the AV-405 amp as a better playmate for the CT-17. These 2 are currently playing with a set of Energy Take-5 speakers, plus an Energy subwoofer, for the 32 in (gulp!) Panasonic TV (we don't watch too much TV). The TFM-25 is now paired with a tiny tube pre-amp for the 'music system'. Feeding that is a Micro Seiki DD25 turntable with the Grado G1+ cartridge and a Pioneer Elite Laser Disk/CD player. Yeah, you may laugh at me - old guy with old gears! I haven't bought any new audio gears for awhile...

Backtrack even further, I built, from kits, a Dynaco PAT-4 preamp and the SE-10 graphic equalizer mated to a Dynaco QSA-300 power amp and, what else, a pair of Dynaco A-25 speakers. This should give you a sense of what kind of 'audiophile' I am... chuckle, chuckle. On occasions, I dabble in building my own speakers which is a whole different ball-game altogether.

Anyway, apologies for not introducing myself before making my first post - seeking answer to my problem no less (ha!)

The excuse is I'm still finding my way around to try to get to know the lay of the land. The truth is... these old eyes are bedazzled by the fancy graphics of the site, although I was looking for it, I just didn't notice the 'Welcome Wagon' forum - until now. So here I am... Howdy everyone! I'm really looking forward to learning from you Carver experts!

Not sure how much I'd be able to contribute here - beside being an avid fan of Bob Carver (really liked his challenging the 'status quo').

Welcome CKJ! But I must inform you that I proudly represent the "out of their element" group on this here forum.  Judging by your post I assure you, I will learn plenty from you.

Glad to have ya aboard, now post up some photos of that gear, please. msp_thumbup.gif

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha... From reading other welcome posts, I knew this was coming... Thank you!

Seriously, as the saying goes, "nothing to see here"! I really don't think I have anything worthy of bragging.

P.S. Midcoast Maine! So what's your opinion? Are genuine Maine lobsters better than those from Canada? Wooden boats, lobsters and Maine - anything better!?

Welcome to the site!

"It a whole different ballgame"

Aiplane humor LOL

I am a DIY builder too some of the members on this site take it to the extreme!

We don't compare systems to others, except for my quest to equal Gene C's 6 subwoofers..

You have a very nice system looking forward to photos!

Jim

Welcome to the forum. You will be pleased to know that there is no competition here for the biggest this, or the most of that. All most of us are seeking is the best sound we can get, and most of us have been around long enough to know that great sound can come from the simplest of systems, all the way up to behemoths that baffle the mind.

We like photos because it gives us a gage on what's important to each of us in our systems, and also it gives us ideas to try in our own set ups.

Kick back and enjoy! We've all been where you are right now...:-)

Welcome!! As others have said, you will soon find out that this site is different from others. No one here will judge or compare systems. Besides, Kevin (The pusher) will be along soon to kick your OCCD into high gear happy0009.gif

Howdy CKJ and welcome to the forum! Nice to have you on board.

One of the first statements I made when I joined was how my system hadn't changed in 20 years.
Now, thanks to these fine members, I've added to the pile, and it's all been refreshed and upgraded.
The best journeys answer questions you didn't think to ask. ENJOY THE MUSIC!

Welcome on all levels. Anyone can contribute here. All we ask is that you don't say party barn. That is reserved. You need at least 200 posts to play on that level. Wink wink.

CKJ,

Welcome, and I must say that building your own speakers is the kind of thing that brings renewed life to your passion. Never forget to ask, "What if?" then try it.

Welcome to the site....  Ahhh Yes, I remember the Dynaco Age.  Did a PAT 4 and a 400 myself.  It was decent gear, but was short lived... There are some great techs here, and some very gifted and generous company here, I'm sure you will enjoy........

Welcome to the Blackhole, CKJ! It's so much fun in the Site that no one wants to escape. Now that you've crossed the Singularity, enablers like Gene C. will further torment you with OCCD to which there is no antidote as you will soon find out.
But worry not as you have lots of company.
Have fun!

Welcome to the theCarversite, CKJ! emteeth.gif

We like gear of all vintage, brand, or complexity. Because no matter what it is, a little Carver makes it better!

Welcome to the forum CKJ.  Hand drawn pictures of your gear is also acceptable.

They must like you already, CKJ- they never told me *that*! eusa_doh.gif

Whoa! I fell asleep for a few hours and 3 pages of welcome from you folks - with nothing but good, kind and generous things to say!

"Ouch! Hey that hurts! Why did you pinch me!?" I said to myself.

"Oh sorry... just making sure you weren't dreaming." I replied.

"You weren't dreaming, idiot! The internet can be nice.", I thought to myself as I reached for the handkerchief. Excuse me... damn pollens are getting into the eyes.

I would, and probably should, reply and thank each of you individually. But that'd inflate my post count artificially and get me banned, Holy Cow!, before I get a chance to exhibit my foot-in-mouth symptoms.

Seriously, I really appreciate the warm receptions! Now... I need to bear down to read, read & read some more... There are serious knowledge to be learnt here. Thank you all in advance...

P.S. I really like the idea of "refreshed and upgraded" as stated by the learned Zumbini. The notion of able to breathe new life into old gear is extremely appealing and, if successful, satisfying.

P.P.S. I hailed from Mcintosh Country of Upstate NY originally, then passed thru the Great State of New Jersey (please don't blame me... I have nothing to do with that reality show.) and now I pray for rain in California.
