Welcome! This is the right place for all you pursue. OCCD will afflict you, if not already. On DeOxit, CAIG makes the product. Last I looked, there are some very good instructional videos from users, and vendors, on YouTube that can do a great job of showing what to do to a pot (potentiometer) to restore it with the product. Here's one: Welcome aboard.3 points

Hello and welcome. I recently did a BillD upgrade on my C-1 and it was a lot of work but does make a big difference. Buy lots of solder wick or a good desoldering tool. My suggestion is to buy a quality desoldering tool like the Hakko FR-301. You will thank me later....lol. I gave up with solder wick about 1/2 way through and bought the Hakko. Do a search on this site for BillD and you'll find lots of info. Carter3 points

Turbo, Jeffs you guys are on point, I took some time last night and took the lid off the amp and gave things a look, went ahead and reflowed the both C1 and bingo the intermittent channel came back to life and both seem to be working great now. This was just on the bench, so now next step is to hook it all up and give it a listen. I haven't listened to this gear in 8-10 years so needless to say I am excited to have it working again. Step 1 was to get it operational and now I can start the mod program on both units. Thanks again for your help, loving it here already2 points

Know it very well. Almost went into the Air Force for PMEL. My Dad talked me into AIS. He was Deputy Director of ASD-YP F-16 at Wright Patterson at the time, an O-6. Now my life is Black Projects with L3 Technologies. And oh yes, it is an incredible blast to do what I do now. No one would believe me if I told them... I loved Fort Walton Beach, Okaloosa Island and Destin while I was out there at Eglin. Had a blast there.1 point

The F-15 avionics test station used to periodically perform a 'relay rattle' to exercise/un-stick any errant relays; the thousands of relays inside the station bays were excited with a 400Hz signal for about 15 minytes; they made quite a bit of noise. me too; I used to calibrate XY plotters; remember iron core memory? fun times.....1 point

The exact same phenomenon exist in the hard disk drive world. There are far more bits in the outermost tracks and far fewer bits in the innermost tracks which is why the data throughput of this ancient technology degrades as the drive fills up outer to inner tracks. SSD's suffer no such degradation. But I, like you, very much enjoy mechanical things and modifying them to go harder, faster... ... And I just love boost!!! Such is the reason for my nickname! New to the site but dusting off my Carver gear and getting things back into shape. I have a M1.5T and C-1 that I have had since brand new. Both are in need of a little work so I looked around and found this site. Happy to be here and learn of all the exciting mods and support for Carver gear. I will be posting the status of my gear and looking for some input for troubleshooting and a few replacement parts. Sounds like a I need to replace the caps in my amp as a starting point. I was an certified tech in the mobile electronics world and also in my previous military career as well so I feel pretty comfortable doing average maintenance and soldering. Happy to be here and look forward to learning from you all. Cheers1 point

Hello syauch, and welcome to thecarversite.com. We're glad you're hear. There is a lot of information here, much technical know how, and a pretty good bunch of folks that are happy to help. One or more of the resident techs will be along to answer your questions. The C-1/M500 or M500t combo is very popular here, and the BillD and mkII upgrades makes them unbeatable for several times the price. I'm presently running that combination, and I'm very pleased with it. Once you get the needed permissions, please consider uploading some pics of your gear in the Members Systems area. We all like pics of all kinds of audio gear. So kick your shoes off, turn up the music, and welcome aboard.1 point
