  1. Good plan. You can do a lot of experimenting (or drinking ) for $850.
  2. Hanson - MMMBop (I woulda sworn they were a pre-teen girl group....)
  3. You might follow Thiel's 1.0 to 1.2 upgrade - add internal bracing and double the thickness of the baffle.
  4. Here are a few more of my favorite Mona's from the book:
  5. Yep, it's not much larger than a sheet of notebook paper.
  6. The original Mona Lisa is a stunning beautiful painting. Here it is after it was cleaned and retouched about 10 years ago. My brother did this mostly true to the original version a few years ago for a dental group in Canada:
  7. A gorgeously illustrated coffee table book that contains a few of my brother's illustrations:
  8. Glad you got lucky. I've received many items that were total losses thanks to the shipping gorillas. Of course it doesn't help that most shippers are total idiots who take shortcuts when packaging. To date I've only had one item that I packed damaged - a turntable that was impaled by a fork truck!
  9. Nice work on the M&K's. Glad you are enjoying them. Hadn't thought about it before but I own several sub/sat speaker systems and all of them image well. I run Design Acoustics DA-30's in my home office and shop (2 or 4 DA-10 sats with a DA-20LF sub). And tecnically speaking the Legacy Audio speakers in my main system are sub/sats on steroids.....
  10. Welcome back sKiZo. Thanks for sharing your story. Beautiful tube amp! Thanks for not making us beg for photos!

    Noise Caps

A few years ago I moved my mini system to my 2nd floor office/bedroom. I immediately noticed hum and bleed-through from a nearby radio station. Wrapping the unused C-2 RCA sockets with aluminum foil blocked the RFI completely.
  12. Exactly what you need for your next coaxially suspended superheterodyne moving flux generator,
  13. Howdy Ralphies and welcome to the forum. Glad you found your way here from the CarverSite facebook page.

I think it is just terrible and disgusting how everyone has treated Lance Armstrong, especially after what he achieved, winning seven Tour de France races while on drugs. When I was on drugs, I couldn't even find my bike. Willie Nelson
  15. I haven't tried Novus on CD's but it's great for nasty turntable dust covers and badly scratched M-500 meter acrylic. Removing deep scratches takes a lot of effort though so I recommend using a low or variable speed orbital buffer.
  16. A CD consists of a thin aluminum or gold data layer sandwiched between 2 polycarbonate discs. Data is written as a series of pits and lands (1's and 0's) in a spiral track beginning at the center with the TOC. If the data track were laid out linearly it would be more than 3 miles long. If a CD refuses to "boot up" it's likely the lead-in track containing the table of contents has been damaged. Polishing/refilling/reflowing the polycarbonate can be effective if the data layer has not been comprimised. Pits are closer to the label side of a disc, so CDs are more likely to suffer damage on the label side of the disc.
  17. The Insert Image applet allows you to upload files as large as 14 MB and resizes them to 800 x 600. (As was mentioned by Sagamore2007 it's NOT compatible with newer vesions of Internet Explorer.) From there you can insert a public link or browse to a file on your hard drive. Once the file has uploaded click OK, then click INSERT.
  18. Howdy Bill and welcome to the forum. Glad you hopped on board the Carver train. Thanks for the intro. Please post some system pix so we don't have to nag you about it.
  19. FYI- The ribbons use more power than the woofers, so you want your bigger amps on the uppers. Or make them all equal. You really won't want bigger amps on the bottom unless you replace the stock woofers with the likes of Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 car subs. Opposite of 'normal' speakers. What Kevin said about the power ratio is true, but I think the ribbons will SOUND better driven by the M-500t's. (M-1.5t's are often described as being a bit harsh.) I would try it both ways and let your ears be the final arbiter.
  20. Howdy Wileysdad, and welcome to the forum. Thanks for sharing your story with us. FYI: The M-1.5(t) is NOT bridgeable but you can take advantage of power steering by using them in single channel mode as follows: Connect the left preamp output to the left OR right input of one amp and feed the left speaker woofers from the left OR right binding posts. Connect the right preamp output to the left OR right input of the other amp and feed the right speaker woofers from the left OR right binding posts. Here is an excerpt from the owner's manual:
  21. What is your price range?
  22. Howdy CKJ and welcome to the forum! Nice to have you on board. One of the first statements I made when I joined was how my system hadn't changed in 20 years. Now, thanks to these fine members, I've added to the pile, and it's all been refreshed and upgraded. The best journeys answer questions you didn't think to ask. ENJOY THE MUSIC!
