A note about used SDA SRS series speakers: It's not unusual for one or more of the multiple tweeters and mid-woofers to be non-functional or operating at reduced volume. (Four of the eight tweeters in my 1.2tl's were DOA.) Replacements drivers are available but the cost can negate an otherwise great deal. Even if you can audition them in person the close placement makes it difficult to focus on a single driver, so I use the cardboard core from a toilet paper or towel roll as a hearing aid.

Balancing Bi-amping into a Sona Fabre Grand Piano Hm speaker

Let's start with your vocabulary David. The Venue is a top of the line speaker management system. It combines a 3 input/6 output electronic crossover with multiple virtual graphic and parametric equalizers and many additional functions. A mixer is used to group and balance the levels of many discrete microphone and line inputs. They may have a simple graphic EQ on one of more of the outputs and the ability to add "digital effects" (e.g. reverb, flanging, compression, etc.). If they have a crossover it's generally for a sub with only basic control over the XO frequency and phase. As to bi- or tri-amping your Sonus Fabers, you have at least 2 choices: Passive would require splitting the existing crossovers electrically and adding a 2nd (or 3rd) set of binding posts to each speaker. To go active you'd have to disconnect all or part of the passive crossovers, rewire the speakers, and add a 2nd (or 3rd) set of binding posts and an electronic crossover. Frankly both options require a healthy knowledge of acoustics and electronics which I wouldn't recommend for someone with your skill set. For now I suggest you try running each speaker with it's own amp. To keep it simple and avoid balance issues both amps should be identical. Each amp will drive one speaker with one output channel. -
Wood cabinets were pretty standard on consumer audio gear when I started buying components in the late 60's. By the mid 70's when I bought these they were optional.

Yes, but that must be done by an admin. However, any member can insert a title that will appear underneath their user name (e.g. mine says Zack's Dad). To add a title left click your user name (upper right corner of any page), and select Profile from the drop-down menu. Left click Edit Profile (in the upper right corner to the left of Cover Photo) Then type in the text you wish to display in the Member Title box under Basic Info

The C-4000 was produced from 79-85. It had built-in (15 wpc?) amps for the time delay channels and was known to be a bit noisy. The 4000t was produced from 86-89. The time delay channels became line level outputs and some of the noise issues were addressed. Any Carver tuner will produce acceptable results if you feed them via a good external antenna. If you are in an urban location with multi-path issues I recommend the TX-11a or TX-11b. -

One day in 1977 a guy named Rick Drexler walked in the small commercial print shop I managed in Naperville, IL. He wanted us to print up some flyers for his jazz/funk band called Upryzing. We got to talking and found out we shared an interest in music and theater. I got him and the band tickets to see the production of Dracula I was working on for North Riverside Theater Guild and he got us in to see the band play a few local clubs. A few months later I moved to the near north side of Chicago and about a year later ran into them at a club they were playing in Evanston. They gave me this copy of their self-produced album Conversion By Fire. They never made it big but there are a few thousand copies of this gem out there.

Replacing the dual-voltage filter caps C-13 and C-14 should be high on your to do list. They were of marginal quality when new and tended to die early. Direct replacements are no longer available in small quantities but site member and ebay seller @circuitsandconcepts sells a reasonably priced engineered daughter board that is pin-for-pin compatible with the original solder points.

In 2003 I took my 8 year old son to see Blue Man Group's How to be a Megastar tour. He loved the show and immediately began begging us to buy him a drum kit. If you've never seen BMG live I urge you to add them to your bucket list, or at least pick up the DVD of that tour - The Complex Rock Tour Live.

It's hard for me to fathom how much people are willing to pay for an LP these days. Many of my original Blue Note releases from the 50's and 60's sell for north of $1,000 on eprey. Not that I'm complaining. 10 years ago when I was in dire financial straits I sold off a dozen of them and made enough to cover my mortgage payments for a year! Anybody interested in my early mono pressing of Dexter Gordon's 'Gettin' Around' (Blue Note 4204). There's one listed on the 'bay right now for $6,500 OBO.
