What's the opinion of these speakers?

Looking at a pair for 200 if I can work out a pickup over 4th of July weekend.

Thinking about them for the shop system. 40x60x16

Shop isn't built yet and I need them like a hole in the head but the price looks good

Awesome garage speakers, if you have the room...

They'll  also rock the shit out of a party barn ???

@Packratt, your neighbors DO really love your taste in music, right?   You know, the folks 12 houses down, and 4 streets over, in the next county...   ?

That's the pair I'm thinking about.

I also had a pair of D9s that need to be reformed for $50 show up on CL that were very close to me.

I have been searching for a pair as well.

That at is a good price.

Do it!

For the 12s or the 9s.

If the D9s are still available I'd prefer them due to location.

If you are really wanting the at12s go for it.

Those CV’s rock! Guest I am staying with has them in his shop (80x60) about the same size as your talking about and they can pump the sound!! Clean and no sub needed.

Great price to boot! Go for it.

To the collective minds here on CV's...,

What is the rank of most desirable CV model, and for what purpose?  -- I'm looking for your opinions..., so no worries to speak your mind.

I have a pair.  (With two pairs of AT10s).

On my TFM 35.

As typically Vegas do, they load at 4-6 ohms. So with quality power they do make LOTS of noise.  Excellent rock speakers.

Listen carefully to the tweeters, I had to replace one and didn’t realize it was cooked for a while.  Of course, the surrounds need attention as they are open cell, if they havent been already.

AJ, I only have experience with the AT series.  My AT 10s have very good mid bass, decent soft some tweeters, but the mids suck unless you push them hard.  The mid clarity is lacking.

Take that all up a notch with the AT 12s,  bass is better, tweeters decent, mids weak.

But they will take an absolute beating as long as there’s no clipping.

For hours and hours.  My Carvers get warm with the load after 4-6 hours......

I keep the cardboard tube from a roll of paper towels in my truck at all times..., I never know when I'm going to come across a pair of speakers..., and I've found that the best test for tweeters, is to play low volume, and put the cardboard tube to the tweeter, and my ear to the other end.  It isolates the sound coming from the tweeter, putting it into your ear..., it has helped me price used speakers correctly (lower) many times, for seller-described as "perfect working condition."  I let the seller do the same, and they can't deny that the tweeters are blown..., and then, well, based on that, prices get set.

...just a little bit of wisdom for the day!

I have 3 different generations of the 12" 3-way CV's here. (including AT12's)  Be aware... They WILL need to be refoamed if they haven't been already. They are great for AC/DC or Donna Summer.  If you listen to a lot of loud rock you will likely be very happy with them.  On the other hand, if you put on Yo Yo Ma or James Taylor they will be disappointing.  These are "one trick ponies" and not one size fits all.

The Infinity SM152 is a very “Vega-like” speaker, often available at great value.  I’ve heard a couple pair - crazy efficient and can FILL a room with sound.

I have been running 15" CV's  for over 30 years now and have no complaints. AT-15 (102dB) and HED U351 (101dB) are among the most sensitive I have seen. Those D9's are much the same. The older models used a bullet horn tweeter that was a little harsh but the AT series has a soft dome that is more pleasant. When I run both sets from my TFM-45, I wire them in series. They can handle lots of power when called upon but can also reveal imperfections in the source due to the high sensitivity. Small power amps can drive them just fine but larger amps can produce thundering and accurate bass. No need for a sub-woofer either way.

$10 the mids are better.

They even look better.

Imho AT mids suck at low volumes.

But I didn’t buy lots of Vegas for low volume.

I have three pairs of DCMs for that.

For a large room or any room for that matter, I recommend the AT-15 over the 12. Bigger box, bigger ports, and bigger woofer allows for a lower frequency and a wider sweet spot if you know what I mean. I'm a CV fan and if they had a forum half as cool as this one, I'd take part

I am always keeping an eye open for the AT-15,  would love to have at least one pair.  Shared a house with few roommates and one guy had two pair of them and man that was a party all the time.

I've had AT-15's, AT-12's, etc. For me the D-5's I currently have (and played last weekend with various amps) are about the most balanced. The AT's are "frat house speakers", no manners, but very loud. If you want critical listening, avoid them. If you want "Party Barn" speakers, pile 'em up!

Just, no manners. Pretty much sums it up.

@danowoodare these also a "one trick pony?"

No tricks, but it's better if you have something bigger than a pony to drive em.
