  1. I still have all of my CDs - This will be a winter project. I will also need to buy the Apple SuperDrive in that new iMac's don't include them anymore. I ran across a preowned Wyred4Sound modified Sonos Connect at TMR Audio here in Denver. I highly recommend the upgrade: Wyred 4 Sound Sonos Upgrade
  2. I have enjoyed reading what has been shared on this thread so far.... The truth is - I have become lazy - at a cost. Years ago I ripped all of my CD's (400+) in to iTunes. This was when storage was expensive. Unfortunately they were all at a lower quality.... hindsight blows. When I first hooked up my turntable I was excited... spinning records like the old days! I forgot what a pita it was to skip a song on the album.... The sound was nostalgic, I even remembered exactly in a song where to one "pop" was. I was encouraged by my teenage children to subscribe to Spotify Family. I am happy that I did. The iPhone interface is slick and the song database is huge. I rediscovered Groups that I forgot I liked. I could never justify buying the album of the "one hit wonder" groups... now easily accessible through this service. So here I am - amazing hardware and low res sources - all without having to move from my couch! If you have read this far in to my reply, I suggest you read the article I have linked. It's a bit dated (and a long read) but does explain WHY my AMAZING system sounds meh to me right now. Itch WHAT DATA COMPRESSION DOES TO YOUR MUSIC

    Pandora vs. Spotify

Spotify is beta testing a High Resolution product. (and I would have a hard time paying Jay Z for Tidal)

    Pandora vs. Spotify

Wayne, My whole house system is hardwired. I used a Yamaha Receiver and a Russound Distribution Amp (karma'd here). The family didn't use it much because it was a hassle. We had to go in to the main cabinet and fire up the amp, select the source and make sure that the in wall volume control in each room, that we didn't want music, was turned off. I bit the bullet and installed a Sonos (some with amps and some without) unit for each zone. Bypassed the volume pots in each room. So, in my case, these units are not for critical listening. The kids pushed me to subscribe to SPOTIFY for the family and we couldn't be happier. SONOS recently updated their app and it integrates very well with SPOTIFY. I wish it were an exact 'lay-over' of the the Spotify app but it does very well. Each individual account in the family can be accessed via the app to play in ANY zone. Volume controls/playlists for each and all zones is so convenient. There are times when the four of us are playing our own music at various locations around the house. I have not experienced songs/artists disappearing from my play lists or favorites..... I also use a number of Apple Airport Express units for zones that are not SONOS. The Spotify app works well with those zones as well. Here is my install: Running a Parasound for the main zone amp. Running a TFM-45 (Dennis Miller) for the big outdoor system. One thing about the SONOS hardware... it runs HOT. I have usb powered laptop cooling fans running 24/7 under them.
  9. Welcome Brian! This a great place to be... There is a wealth of knowledge shared here daily. Don't be shy. Itch
  10. My answer is not so simple. I ended up buying a The Receiver and have it in my home office. I can have music playing in the background if the markets are not too crazy (need to focus.) The home theater contains Carver and Sunfire, this is running almost every evening. To listen to my AUDIO system requires an empty house! That only happens once or twice a week.

  13. Welcome Steve! I spent many hours at "Crazy Lenny's" as a 16 yr old with a drivers license... Driving from Elm Grove to Madison. I went on a Mac and Cheese diet and sold my meal tickets at UW so I could buy a Hafler Amp kit there. Itch
