Blues Pwr 765
Johnny Winter ~ Saints and Sinners "Stray Cat Blues" I hear the click-clack of your feet on the stairs I know you're no scare-eyed honey There'll be a feast if you just come upstairs But it's no hanging matter It's no capital crime I can see that you're fifteen years old No I don't want your I.D. I can see that you're so far from home But it's no hanging matter It's no capital crime Oh yeah, you're a strange stray cat Oh yeah, don'tcha scratch like that Oh yeah, you're a strange stray cat Bet your mama don't know you scream like that I bet your mother don't know you can spit like that You look so weird and you're so far from home But you don't really miss your mother You don't look so scared, I'm no mad-brained bear But it's no hanging matter It's no capital crime, oh yeah I bet your mama don't know that you scratch like that I bet she don't know you can bite like that You say, you got a friend, that she's wilder than you Why don't you bring her upstairs If she's so wild then she can join in too It's no hanging matter It's no capital crime Oh yeah, you're a strange stray cat Oh yeah, don'tcha scratch like that Oh yeah, you're a strange stray cat I bet you mama don't know you can bite like that I'll bet she never saw you scratch my back
augie3470 7
One of my favorites with several meaningful lines for me, At The Edge by David Crosby from the album CPR Our grasp is so fragile, the thread is so thin I wonder each day if I'm blowin away I know that I'm lucky- I wouldn't be here at all If somebody's hand hadn't been where I stand At the edge of a very great fall. And like a lighthouse before you at the edge of the sea the woman who's grip holds when you slip. but the darkness won't get you - your family won't go they will make your heart light to where you know what is right and you go where you know you should go. And it's life and it's dying, it's beginnings and ends It's what did you do with the life they gave you? It's were you that honest and did you make amends? To all of the ones that were under your guns How have you treated your friends
Gene C 1,745
Pink Floyd - Echoes Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves The echo of a distant tide Comes willowing across the sand And everything is green and submarine And no one showed us to the land And no one knows the where's or why's But something stirs and something tries And starts to climb towards the light Strangers passing in the street By chance two separate glances meet And I am you and what I see is me And do I take you by the hand And lead you through the land And help me understand the best I can And no one calls us to move on And no one forces down our eyes No one speaks And no one tries No one flies around the sun Cloudless every day you fall upon my waking eyes Inviting and inciting me to rise And through the window in the wall Come streaming in on sunlight wings A million bright ambassadors of morning And no one sings me lullabies And no one makes me close my eyes So I throw the windows wide And call to you across the sky. Zoom 372
Top Five; Rush "Time Stand Still" I turn my back to the wind To catch my breath Before I start off again. Driven on without a moment to spend To pass an evening with a drink and a friend I let my skin get too thin I'd like to pause No matter what I pretend Like some pilgrim Who learns to transcend Learns to live as if each step was the end (Time stand still) I'm not looking back But I want to look around me now (Time stand still) See more of the people and the places that surround me now Freeze this moment a little bit longer Make each sensation a little bit stronger Experience slips away Experience slips away I turn my face to the sun Close my eyes Let my defences down All those wounds that I can't get unwound I let my past go too fast No time to pause If I could slow it all down Like some captain, whose ship runs aground I can wait until the tide comes around (Time stand still) I'm not looking back But I want to look around me now (Time stand still) See more of the people and the places that surround me now Freeze this moment a little bit longer Make each impression a little bit stronger Freeze this motion a little bit longer The innocence slips away The innocence slips away... Summer's going fast, nights growing colder Children growing up, old friends growing older Freeze this moment a little bit longer Make each sensation a little bit stronger Experience slips away Experience slips away... Community Admin AndrewJohn 8,735 Posted March 24, 2014 Community Admin Share Posted March 24, 2014 For me, I fall back to Pink Floyd, "Time" The lyrics have so many applicable meanings. The one I like the most is to use the "ten years have got behind you..." when consulting with decision makers that have a difficult time making decisions. LYRICS Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say REPRISE Home, home again I like to be here when I can And when I come home cold and tired It’s good to warm my bones beside the fire Far away across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spells. Gene C 1,745
Frank Zappa - Don't Eat The Yellow Snow Dreamed I was an Eskimo Frozen wind began to blow Under my boots and around my toes The frost that bit the ground below It was a hundred degrees below zero And my mama cried And my mama cried Nanook, a-no-no Nanook, a-no-no Don't be a naughty Eskimo Save your money, don't go to the show Well I turned around and I said oh, oh oh Well I turned around and I said oh, oh oh Well I turned around and I said ho, ho And the northern lights commenced to glow And she said, with a tear in her eye Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow
B-Man 4,763
Queensryche - Another Rainy Night Don't slam the door, on your way out Don't leave without saying goodbye. Another long distance night alone, you leave me wanting, always leave me wanting more. Last word today, coming home to stay ? Wouldn't that be nice, for a while ? But now my take-out food is growing cold, and the candle's burned a hole in the floor. And I'm still waiting for the ring of the phone. I'm all alone It's another rainy night, without you. Guess I'll leave a light on for you. It's just another rainy night, without you. Listen, there's a foghorn blowing from the coast tonight. Remember making love in the rain ? Strange how laughter looks like crying with no sound Raindrops taste like tears without the pain. I'm not much without you, can't leave if I wanted to. Maybe that's why you stay around ? But tonight I'll sit here tending the fire and pace the floor one hundred times in an hour. And check the voice-mail for a message you've called. I'm all alone It's another rainy night, without you. Waiting by the phone. Alone. It's just another rainy night, without you. Guess I'll leave a light on for you. I know I've said it before hate the sound of the closing door and your footsteps walking away. But now my take-out food is growing cold, and the candle's burned a hole in the floor. And I'm still waiting for the ring of the phone. I'm all alone It's another rainy night, without you. Waiting by the phone. Alone. And it's another rainy night, without you. Guess I'll leave a light on for you. It's just another rainy night, another rainy night, another rainy night... Without you.
SteveMKentucky 70
Pink Floyd - Time Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way. Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way. Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain. You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today. And then one day you find ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun. So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older, Shorter of breath and one day closer to death. Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time. Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way The time is gone, the song is over, Thought I'd something more to say. dr_gallup 42
Grateful Dead "He's Gone" Rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb, you know better but I know him. Like I told you, what I said, Steal your face right off your head. Now he's gone, now he's gone, Lord he's gone, he's gone. Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track He's gone, gone, nothin's gonna bring him back...He's gone. Nine mile skid on a ten mile ride, hot as a pistol but cool inside. Cat on a tin roof, dogs in a pile, Nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile!!!! Now he's gone, now he's gone Lord he's gone, he's gone. Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track He's gone, gone, nothin's gonna bring him back...He's gone. Goin' where the wind don't blow so strange, Maybe off on some high cold mountain chain. Lost one round but the price wasn't anything, A knife in the back and more of the same. Same old, rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb, You know better but I know him. Like I told you, what I said, Steal your face right off your head. Now he's gone, now he's gone Lord he's gone, he's gone. Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track He's gone, gone, nothin's gonna bring him back...He's gone. Ooh, nothin's gonna bring him back. "Jack Straw" We can share the women, we can share the wine. We can share what we got of yours 'cause we done shared all of mine. Keep on rollin', just a mile to go; Keep on rollin' my old buddy, you're movin' much too slow. I just jumped the watchman, right outside the fence. Took his rings, four bucks in change, ain't that Heaven sent? Hurts my ears to listen, Shannon, burns my eyes to see; Cut down a man in cold blood, Shannon, might as well been me. We used to play for silver, now we play for life; And one's for sport and one's for blood at the point of a knife. And now the die is shaken, now the die must fall. There ain't a winner in the game, he don't go home with all. Not with all. Leavin' Texas, fourth day of July, Sun so hot, the clouds so low, the eagles filled the sky. Catch the Detroit Lightnin' out of Sante Fe, The Great Northern out of Cheyenne, from sea to shining sea. Gotta go to Tulsa, first train we can ride. Gotta settle one old score, one small point of pride. There ain't a place a man can hide, Shannon will keep him from the sun Ain't a bed can give us rest now, you keep us on the run. Jack Straw from Wichita cut his buddy down, And dug for him a shallow grave and laid his body down. Half a mile from Tucson, by the morning light, One man gone and another to go, my old buddy you're moving much too slow. We can share the women, we can share the wine.

LVMAN777 322
"Taxi" HARRY CHAPIN It was raining hard in 'FriscoI needed one more fare to make my nightA lady up ahead waved to flag me downShe got in at the lightOh, where you going to, my lady blueIt's a shame you ruined your gown in the rainShe just looked out the windowShe said, Sixteen Parkside LaneSomething about her was familiarI could swear I'd seen her face beforeBut she said, I'm sure you're mistakenAnd she didn't say anything moreIt took a while, but she looked in the mirrorAnd she glanced at the license for my nameA smile seemed to come to her slowlyIt was a sad smile, just the sameAnd she said, How are you HarryI said, How are you SueThrough the too many milesAnd the too little smilesI still remember youIt was somewhere in a fairy taleI used to take her home in my carWe learned about love in the back of a DodgeThe lesson hadn't gone too farYou see, she was gonna be an actressAnd I was gonna learn to flyShe took off to find the footlightsAnd I took off to find the skyOh, I've got something inside meTo drive a princess blindThere's a wild man, wizardHe's hiding in me, illuminating my mindOh, I've got something inside meNot what my life's about'Cause I've been letting my outside tide meOver 'til my time, runs out (Baby's so high that she's skying) (Yes, she's flying, afraid to fall)(I'll tell you why baby's crying)('Cause she's dying, aren't we all)There was not much more for us to talk aboutWhatever we had once was goneSo I turned my cab into the drivewayPast the gate and the fine trimmed lawnsAnd she said, we must get togetherBut I knew it'd never be arrangedAnd she handed me twenty dollarsFor a two fifty fareShe said, Harry, keep the changeWell, another man might have been angryAnd another man might have been hurtBut another man never would've let her goI stashed the bill in my shirtAnd she walked away in silenceIt's strange, how you never knowBut we'd both gotten what we'd asked forSuch a long, long time agoYou see, she was gonna be an actressAnd I was gonna learn to flyShe took off to find the footlightsAnd I took off for the skyAnd here, she's acting happyInside her handsome homeAnd me, I'm flying in my taxiTaking tips, and getting stonedI go flying so high, when I'm stoned
evilmainer 137
Great question and based on the chapter and page of life, I can change it often, Simon and Garfunkel "Only Living Boy in New York", John Lennon "Imagine", Pink Floyd "Fearless", all of DSOTM, Nick Drake, N. Young, Dylan, but today: Cat Stevens/ Father and Son FatherIt's not time to make a change,Just relax, take it easy. You're still young, that's your fault,There's so much you have to know.Find a girl, settle down,If you want you can marry.Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy. I was once like you are now, and I know that it's not easy,To be calm when you've found something going on.But take your time, think a lot,Why, think of everything you've got.For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not. SonHow can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again. It's always been the same, same old story. From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen. Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away.I know I have to go. FatherIt's not time to make a change,Just sit down, take it slowly. You're still young, that's your fault,There's so much you have to go through.Find a girl, settle down,If you want you can marry.Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy.Son, away away away, I know I have to All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside,It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it.If they were right, I'd agree, but it's them you know not me.Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away.I know I have to go.Father, stay stay stay, why must you go andMake this decision alone? RussellHammond 97
Jim Croce Time in a bottle If I could save time in a bottle The first thing that I'd like to do Is to save every day 'til eternity passes away Just to spend them with you If I could make days last forever If words could make wishes come true I'd save every day like a treasure and then Again, I would spend them with you But there never seems to be enough time To do the things you want to do once you find them I've looked around enough to know That you're the one I want to go through time with If I had a box just for wishes And dreams that had never come true The box would be empty except for the memory Of how they were answered by you But there never seems to be enough time To do the things you want to do once you find them I've looked around enough to know That you're the one I want to go through time with

Daddyjt 8,747
I’ve really been enjoying Sean Rowe for a while now. He has a very unique sound, and I especially like the stories he tells in his songs. One in particular that I find powerful is The Very First Snow. The world rolls and it changes gears But today I'll stay in bed I'm gonna soak these sheets in tears I'm gonna think of you instead They say that you're in a better place now Oh but they don't believe what they know You left with all of the Christmas lights on As light as the very first snow I see red and I hear the noise I'm gonna go there when I can Oh whiskey rye is my drug of choice I think the night will understand And though you won't get that cold anymore You will freeze in the back of my brain And in my dreams I will open the door If you will lean into the frame I'm gonna miss your indoor voice And the way you washed your hands And all these diamonds you left for me That I just thought were sand They say that you're in a better place now Oh but they don't believe what they know You left with all of the Christmas lights on As light as the very first snow
GarciaFan 293
Ripple Grateful Dead If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung Would you hear my voice come through the music Would you hold it near as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken Perhaps they're better left unsung I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow Reach out your hand if your cup be empty If your cup is full may it be again Let it be known there is a fountain That was not made by the hands of men There is a road, no simple highway Between the dawn and the dark of night And if you go no one may follow That path is for your steps alone Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow You who choose to lead must follow But if you fall you fall alone If you should stand then who's to guide you? If I knew the way I would take you home Songwriters: Jerome J. Garcia / Robert C. Hunter
