Crittenden 21
After reading the Admin basics, I assume I'm a Novice as a new member. Over the years (decades now I'm afraid to admit) I've had quite a bit of Carver gear, and regret ever selling off any of it. The trauma of those transactions has caused me to not remember even why I sold, so don't ask! PTSD. LOL. That said currently I have (only) a Receiver 900 that I'd love to get repaired. It worked great for years, then one day it didn't. I don't recall any symptoms, clues that it was going out. I'm in the Cincinnati Ohio area and would like to find a reputable (Carver-wise) repair place I could deliver it to as opposed to shipping coast-to-coast. But I'm not "against" that if it gets me to the best Carver specialists. Thanks y'all for having this site and for providing a forum for the fine Carver equipment users. Like my Thiel speakers, it is a shame when the legends pass on and the companies change direction (or just disappear). Stay well all! 5
Rob 4,306
Welcome Crittenden to this wonderful Carversite. There are plenty of resources and repair guys here to take care of you. I had my MXR150 repaired by Greg at Nelion audio in Michigan. You will hear from the admins and others shortly welcoming you and making suggestions. Sk1Bum 9,888
Hello Jeff, and welcome to thecarversite.com. We're glad you're hear. There is a lot of information here, much technical know how, and a pretty good bunch of folks that are happy to help. The closest tech to you that I'm aware of is @Nahash5150, and he's located in central Michigan. There are several other techs here that are scattered across the country. Status progression to member is as follows: Incoming until you get the sixth Like, Love, or That rocks reaction, then you become Novice. Novice until you reach 100 posts in the areas where posts are counted then you become Member. The areas where posts aren't counted are clearly labeled. Once you reach Novice, please consider uploading some pics of your gear in the Members Systems area. We all like pics of all kinds of audio gear. In the meantime, kick your shoes off, turn up the music, and welcome aboard.

And sometimes are too funny for words😄. I have a MXR200 driving Thiel CS2's. My MXR200 needed work recently and these guys fixed me right up with a great tech up in Santa Barbara not far from me. Super guy that I could talk with for hours!!!!. So welcome again and have fun.
Crittenden 21
Thank you, too. Nice to be here and I'll do my best to contribute. My Thiels are "only" 1.2's but (as you know) they are amazing (no pun intended).

Brian_at_HHH 2,609
Welcome Jeff! Don't fret about what's been sold off, just focus on what you have. The great thing with Carver gear is that there is such a dedicated bunch that look after, and even improve many of the devices - I see some good pointers to some above. There should be no problem getting your receiver fixed to to 100% or better. With luck your Theil's will be happily singing before long.
kve777 6,677
Welcome! If you want to ship it to NJ, I'd be glad to bring it back to it's former glory! The 900 is a favorite here. 1

B-Man 4,763
Welcome !! Glad you found us. Now that you have 5+ posts you can throw up a pic of your system. I passed on a pair of Thiel 3.2 (I think - it was some time ago) and have regretted it ever since. They sounded fantastic as I recall. Go here, check out the site and then contact Greg. Your 900 couldn't be in better hands. https://nelionaudio.com/
Crittenden 21
Last week (Friday the 14th) I sent an email to service@nelionaudio.com asking for pricing on an overhaul of my Receiver 900. I saw a lot of great information on the Nelion Audio website for many Carver amps and preamps, but wanted to get an idea of costs before shipping it. But I have yet to get a reply. Did I email the wrong "address" maybe? As always, thanks everyone. Edited August 20, 2020 by Crittenden
Brian_at_HHH 2,609
@Crittenden, you may want to PM @Nahash5150. That may get a more direct response (Nahash5150 is Greg at Nelion).

Community Admin AndrewJohn 8,184 Posted August 20, 2020 Community Admin Share Posted August 20, 2020 Welcome, Jeff @Crittenden. Nice Avatar ! @kve777 seems to be one with LOTS of Carver receiver "experience" (sometimes referred to as OCCD..., but maybe in his case "hoarding". 😉 ). You can't go wrong shipping your 900 to Kevin. OTOH, if you are looking for an early Fall drive through Michigan (navigating the roads of Detroit, too)..., Greg at Nelion ( @Nahash5150 ) --- Google Maps says he's a scenic drive from Cleveland through Sandusky, Toledo, Ann Arbor, and up to the thumb of MI to Bay City, then across the mitten to Hersey..., that's not a bad drive for a Carver visit at all, then if you are adventurous, the trip home could be through Grand Rapids and Lansing. That's a nice Michigan weekend roadtrip I would take someday - for you, about 6 hours each way. Oh, yes, if you are handy..., and can use a soldering iron..., there is always the DIY approach with some help from people here..., if you have basic electronics knowledge, there's a lot of help here. Either way, we're glad you are here (hear)...,
Crittenden 21
Hi AndrewJohn, thanks for the reply. I feel comfortable with a soldering iron, but not sure where to get real, quality parts. I see a bunch of stuff on eBay of course, but wouldn't know what to get exactly and more importantly if it is any good. Greg at Nelion said he doesn't fully "refurbish" the Receivers, but does do a "go through" routine for a couple hundred buck. I just really liked the processes Nelion described on amps and preamps and felt good about their quality based on their webiste and on folks' recommendations on this forum. Off topic, I live near Cincinnati but worked for a company in Detroit (Berkeley specifically) for a few year recently and made many a trip up there. I'm very familiar with the areas you talked about and there are a lot of nice vacation-y areas I wouldn't mind revisiting. I'd like to eat at Vinsetta's Garage again, too. It was a favorite for a beer and a 3AM Burger!
