The largest subs I remember were a pair of the old Electrovoice 30" woofers installed in a wall using the garage behind them as the enclosure. This was in the late 70's or early 80's. The fellow was driving them with a BGW 750 amp. I didn't care for the sound but it sure did shake. The largest subs that I sold quite a few of were the Fried kits. (T, D, H & O ?) with the coffin style cabinets. These sounded wonderful using either the KEF oval driver or 8" or 10" depending on the model. Here are some pics I found online to give you an idea...

Welcome to the Carver Site! I have 2 of the C-1's that have been upgraded and I love them. Unfortunately, with health issues I am unable to work on things myself but mine were done by some of the fine techs here on the site. I'm not sure which "kit" you are referring to as there are a fairly large range up upgrades that have evolved over the years and all seem to be placed under the umbrella of "BillD" If you clarify which upgrades you plan on pursuing (remote volume, Gold RCA's, Caps, Op-Amps, etc.) I'm sure one of the techs will be by and able to give you more detailed answers to specific questions. While waiting, you might do well to spend some time reading here as it truly is a mountain of information. Pull up a chair and enjoy yourself!

This may sound rather snobbish but it is not intended that way. Just like there are folks who never learned plumbing, auto mechanics, fine wine or the intricacies of any other field, there are many who have never had the opportunity to educate their ears as to what sounds good and what does not. If someone has never heard real live people playing instruments in person, are they able to tell which recorded and then reproduced version of a performance sounds the most accurate or real? If all someone has ever listened to is snippets of sounds that have been stitched together is there a set of "better" sound characteristics to try to achieve as their goal? Is there a time when just plain louder is better without regard for timbre? I suppose I am a sound snob because I do know what sounds real and I do have a strong preference for it. Very little brings more happiness than finding a new CD or LP that is well recorded and a great performance of good material. In a perfect world everything would be like this. Unfortunately, that is not the majority of what I listen too. There is too much other music I like that is just plain lousy recordings. I have CD's of early Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald & Eartha Kitt recordings. These were mono recordings that only exist now as transfers from 78rpm records. I consider Ella to be the greatest female jazz singer of all time and if this is the only way to listen to these performances then so be it. Another example came up earlier in the thread. The first Van Halen album is very poorly recorded. As much as that can annoy me at times, it is still Eddie Van Halen. I like the material and performance too much to let the poor recording stop me from enjoying it. (This is one of those times when maybe louder is better...)

At the top of my list is Kanye West. He has consistently behaved badly for the last decade. His interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech was a total embarrassment. (Anyone who can make someone as obnoxious as Swift look like a victim must truly be an over the top asshole)

I think the crossovers look correct. The Monitor 10's, 10a, 10b & 10c are all different. These are Monitor 10 Series II which are fairly rare. (The last of the Monitor line and somewhat evolved from all of the earlier versions)

I will try to get upstairs this Weekend and dig them out. I'm not sure which style they are.

If you have no luck finding grills I have 3 pair here and I can always part out one of them.

Many years ago we used the Sheffield Drum Record as a percussion demo. It was very impressive.

I have records that were treated with LAST close to 40 years ago and they sound fine. The original last treatment does a nice job of lowering surface noise. (Part of this might be connected to the high grade cleaner/applicator brushes included) I'm not sure what it is or why it works, but it does. (Their description of what it does has been debunked by chemists) If you decide to try it I strongly suggest buying directly from the factory. About 15 years ago there were some folks who apparently purchased a large number of bottles and saved the contents in another container. They then refilled the last bottles with something else and sold them on eBay.
