    Pandora vs. Spotify

I buy CD's for a buck ($1 each) at Goodwill. Or in mass, on Craigslist when people are "dumping" their collections for pennies on the dollar. I'll never listen to them all. (I've collected Cassettes too, this way.) Sure, I don't get the "latest" releases, but I'm old, and like the older stuff - so I'm not missing much relative to my listening repertoire. For CD's It feels like 1992 again, when you could almost drive down the street and see people's entire Vinyl collections on the street for the garbage pick-up. People be kickin' themselves now! On a road trip, I can't find XM radio all that great (maybe No Shoes Radio - but most of it is not doing it for me) and I do FM to see what is playing regional, when driving across the country - but mostly play CD's, or ripped music I have on my phone. You sound like me. I do the same thing. I don't use streaming services at all. I am not against them, I either listen to FM for the new stuff, or find more older stuff I like. I am an 80's music guy, so I am old too and like the "older stuff".......grin Dadvw

  8. Hi! And welcome to the forum! If these have never been serviced and you like the sound of the equipment AND you plan on keeping it, I would highly recommend it! You will probably notice an improvement in the sound of your music! There are good techs that can help with that or if you are inclined, you can do the work yourself. Let us know what you decide.......grin Dadvw

  13. I have enjoyed this thread as well and I thank all of you for your input. I don't consider myself a "true audiophile" in the purest sense, but I love listening to music and enjoy the gear I have to listen to it with. To me, the greatest thing about this hobby, if one calls it that, is the limitless possibilities of making music sound like it "should" when it was recorded. Reproducing music in our homes and cars is a lot of work and pleasure, with or without alcohol of any kind! I call these therapy sessions, where usually myself, Mr. Morgan, and Mr. Carver get together for a meeting in the evening hours and listen to loud music.....grin. But the greatest part of this is all the components you can obtain to build your system the way you want it, and make it sound like you want it. Each component does it own part, and can be purchased and tried and tweaked and repaired until we obtain the sound we like to hear. The cleanest sound possible within our pocketbooks I believe is everyone's goal, and that is a personalized opinion, each different from our own. What I have learned is that we can respect each others opinions and all enjoy the music, however we like to enjoy it, and learn things from each other that makes our lives and systems better.........grin
  14. I have just learned about the records being "DBX encoded". I didn't realize they made them. I am going to try them out. I just bought a DBX 222 from Ebay for $29.00. I have always had a Yamaha DBX cassette deck (K-2000) in the house and at one time had a DBX Alpine car stereo (mid 80's). Never had an DBX standalone unit, until now. I like the technology and it's another toy to play with.........grin John
