Yes, so many greats out there. The one that hurt so good, was Patricia Barbers 45RPM recording of 'Verve'. DO NOT DIG the music too much, yet the realism will not likely be topped in my collection of late. It is so much more than just ambiance, yet, I can't explain the ethereal.

Though I don't find it a necessity for everything in the musical world, the Cords album (yes Cords, not Chords) by Synergy, demands a sub. Had the sub turned off, and cut the musical impact in half.

What does the W stand for?

So, my guess makes more sense than the rest of this nonsense... Bob 'Wood-Carver' -
Hello From Gilbert Arizona!
4krow replied to carverfan's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Gilbert is a unique place. I finally felt that I had found Phoenix's roots there. Don't know much about it except I was there to purchase an air rifle that was far beyond my means and expectations. There has been a continued dedication to the Carver products here. Look around and you will see that these components have been given another lease to perform. -
SuperTramp has had some of the best recordings out there. I just couldn't make a decision which album that I love most. This would be in the top three though. Quick edit! "Breakfast in America" has been a complete downer on the other end of things. Great album, but beware which recording that you buy! Man, that is harsh in the worst ways.

Brian, I probably am more in line for forgiveness rather than medals. Hopefully, I will be receiving mine in the mail soon. Joking aside, never doubt for a moment that your appreciation for members here isn't appreciated as well. Now that I have seemingly found my place as the C-9/buffer guy, life is good. Thanks to all that have helped me understand electronics even at it's basic level.

That's the rub for me as well. Sometimes I just have to ignore the obvious and listen for the music between the noise, EQ, etc. Patricia Barber comes to mind for excellent recordings as well as Donald Fagen, and of course many others. FLAC files have a very good sense of quality, but SACD is some of the very best. Trouble is, as usual, who makes a good SACD player these days? And on it goes. I only got into FLAC files and the like so as not to be left in the playback dust.

That might be one of my all time favorites. There is precision and jazz in the same space.

Finally found high res streaming system for 2 channel system

Good to know. looks like things are headed that way in general for music, etc. -
Who uses which media for primary listening and why?

I wish that I read some of this thread awhile back. This is such amazing topic, given say, a 20 year period. Seems that everything has changed, and changed again. Vinyl was king back in the day, and i am glad that I owned a rig worthy of keeping for so long. Once I moved on to CD, things were actually pretty good, but the recordings made a big difference just like it did with vinyl. Years went by, and I finally tried SACD. For the most part, I found it to be impressive, but as luck wins out, SACD had become more difficult to find and too expensive for my taste. Only a couple years ago, did I even try computer audio. Of course, that only works for me with FLAC files and using FooBar to read them. Totally NOT using Windows anything. The result is great, but I get annoyed by my inexperience and sometimes the way some programmer thought when he assumed everybody already knew all there was to know about using a computer. I tend to like the CD player concept, but only if I have a decent player to begin with. As of now, I own Emotiva C-3? player, and also a Rega Apollo R player. Neither one is satisfactory on it's own, so an outboard DAC was the answer. Yah, I am still not totally in love with it either! Dam, I miss my Cayin CD player with tube output. One other thing worth mentioning is that I like the Dragonfly Red DAC over the other outboard DAC. The Dragonfly is only used with the computer though. -
Dam! I really didn't think of that. What if someone were to hold the laser VERY steady by hand and cut the grooves? THEN it would be analog, No?

what an incredible idea. As always, the proof would be in the listening. Can't think why this wouldn't be a great idea though.

Have you ever checked "absolute phase" of your speakers?
4krow replied to kve777's topic in Loudspeaker repair
But Kev, The variable phase control on subs will keep us guessing longer! -

I get lost trying to find out which equipment reverses the absolute phase, and which doesn't. You are right though about low frequencies. That is a good idea. Then, of course, there is the polarity thing that catches me off guard after hooking up a new sub amp or something like that. Details, detailz -
Don-R.......... off topic, but the AeroSmith album is still out there somewhere. Since it has been a couple of weeks, I thought that I should get an idea of where it was sent from. Then again, it the season for late packages. Many thanks.

Maybe Aero Smith, Toys in The Attic. dunno. After that the list is long and varied.

Playing a record is the equivalent of dragging a stick with a nail on the end through jello, and expecting no damage.

Bills work is a class act. Yes, it's true, that the price of a shop has to pay the light bill... and some of the heavy bill as well. Ha!

I sheepishly tell my wife that this is just a unit that I am testing... (for a few years)

Ultrasonic appears to be at the peak of cleaning, at least that would be my impression. I watched a lady scrub some old and dirty records that came out of a jukebox. Man, the things you see out there. Too late to tell her different.
-
I would be the exception. I rarely listen, (once or twice a week) but when I do, I have high expectations. Same as my target rifle. You can only spend so much on a system that your senses are capable of appreciating, yet, there is little room in my mind for a system that needs constant tweaking.

I am fairly certain that I had a Patricia Barber album that was direct to disc. It also was recorded at 45 RPM. Sometimes a recorded performance can scary good.

Speaker design has absolutely fascinated me since a young age. Only a few days ago, I received the TAS illustrated book of speaker 'history'. Speakers such as these and many more kept me in that book until I was crosseyed.

I also made an attempt with digital, line level crossovers. Wow, don't even go there. Turns out, I like the sound of a well designed passive anyway.
