    • The service manual was fantastic and made everything much easier. I ordered the upgraded caps on Amazon no less - USR caps. They had the tabs that were nowhere near where the holes in the PCB were, so I had to solder some legs onto them to put them back into the board. I put in a new fuse, held my breath and turned it on and tada! all seemed fine. Using the manual directions, I trimmed the bias to 6 mv and checked the 74 volts DC and it was nominal. When I hooked it up to some speakers and an input source, I noticed that the input jacks could be rocked a bit and the music dropped out. I figured that the owner had hooked up some heavy or hard to insert cables and cracked the solder joints on the PCB. I opened it back up and reflowed the joints and that fixed that. All good now. A pretty inexpensive fix to restore an old beast. The VU meters have a 11/83 stamp on them. My customer is pleased as well.
    • Currently working on getting to "Novice" so I can post pics... last night and this morning wrestling with getting the main circuit board out. Must be some mysterious force holding it in. Wish the service panel underneath was a bit wider - tose rubber spacers melted all over the board, under where I can't get to. Time for a bar of Solvol on the fingers
    • @PJ20K   I just ordered new caps from Digikey. My order was based upon several previous orders - it took a while to locate equivalent values for those components which have been discontinued. (Caveat - I have a high degree of confidence that the replacement components are the correct value and dimensions, but won't be certain until I receive them and begin the work). I have attached my parts list. I did order the upsized mkII values.   All but the 100V 10000uF caps (ESMH101VND103MA63T) for C508 and C509 were available via Digikey. I ended up finding a pair at OnlineComponents.com  Their website stated they had 9 in stock, so I placed an order for eight - knowing they are becoming very scarce and expensive.   Unfortunately,  they only had two in stock which are being shipped.             M-500t Recap (mkII Values).xlsx

hello All ! Olskool here …bought a Carver C-19 preamp today …Being shipped ..fingers crossed it gets here  undamaged ,,,unlike my last two items Ive had shipped . Been doing this for years and had very little problems until last week .
The Carver TFM55x had one handle smashed sideways and right channel scratchy and hums barely plays  …
waiting on FedX for ins adjustment ..hope it isnt too badly damaged .! Both items were not packed so well …
When I ship something out it is packed as good as i can get it and its not going to be moving around inside the box ,,that is for  sure . Crunched up paper is NOT packing material . imo
